Title: The Tefal Cook4me pressure cooker

http://www.tefal.com.au/All+Products/Cooking+Appliances/Multi-cookers/Products/Cook4Me/Cook4Me.htm
I did pick it up for $60 less at good guys.

I replaced my other electric p/cooker with this one, as it's fully interactive screen sets the cooking times for you.....you just need to enter what type of food/meat/weight you are cooking.
The settings options are meat, fish & shellfish, rice & cereals & vegetables & fruits.
There is over 80 recipes built in, and it gives you ingredients, measurements & cooking steps....you can easily adapt the recipes to your own taste....you can also cook the dishes longer if needed, and has the keep warm function.
It really takes the thinking & guess work out.
.....and the main reason I liked it was it automatically releases the pressure when finished....so no more steam  burns when releasing the valve!  There is a small amount of condensation when pressure releases, but no where near the amount of spitting liquid like the other appliance did.

First dish I made was Greek lamb

Yes, it fell apart  :P
Instructions easy to follow...first you select which course

turn the dial to select 2,4, or 6 people

Scroll through & select which recipe you want to make, or select the manual option for food of your choice

Gives you the recipe (also comes with a booklet with the ingredients & measurements for programmed recipes)

Once you have selected &  added ingredients, browned & sautéed, close lid and it shows the pressure building

Then indicates progression of pressure releasing

Then you can open lid or it keeps warm until ready.

I found it easy to use, easy to disassemble lid for cleaning, and looking forward to trying more recipes.
The Greek lamb we had was cooked perfectly, but slightly bland....so next time I will add the flavours I usually use.

:P Nah....the end cooked result is the same in all machines....thought I'd review this one if people haven't got a PC, and were thinking of getting one.

last night was pork ribs

I did add 8 pork ribs instead of 6, and all cooked well.  They tasted great, my choice would be to add extra ginger & soy, but recipe listed was enough for the kids....would make again.
I did cut the rind off before cooking, and crackled it up in the oven.

Should have read this thread first Maddie. Those ribs looks great, I havne't tried them in the PC - might do that next week.
Title: Re: The Tefal Cook4me pressure cooker
Post by: maddy on September 10, 2013, 02:32:37 am
I actually prefer them cooked in the pc, as it seems to cook a lot of the fat out...not that eating the crackled rind is much healthier  :P
Add as much garlic & ginger as you like.
I did marinate the ribs for a couple of hours in those ingredients prior to cooking.

One of our family favourites is the WW pepper pork using ribs so not sure why I haven't thought to actually cook ribs in the PC before. I would put under a hot grill to just colour them a little before serving but that's not a big deal. Will definitely add to my list for next week.

Maddy that is a good idea for the rind, so its still crunchy.

It's just julienned carrot, capsicum, cucumber & spring onion, with a packet of Changs crispy noodles, and the dressing from back of the noodle pack....which I only use 1/2 the amount of oil stated......have thrown pack out sorry, but it will be online somewhere.

Arrived yesterday used it today.  This is a very user friendly machine and I really like it. Just used the quick cook function as I was cleaning out the fridge and chopped up all the older veg in TMX then cooked for 10 mins in cook4me. Was great. Love the way it automatically releases the steam instead of having to wait for the pressure to come down.  Also love the keep warm function.

last night i popped in 9 large forequarter chops, sprinkled with 1 pkt. French onion soup & 1 cup water.
Didn't bother browning, using manual time function, was cooked for 25 minutes perfectly.
Sorry no pic....parents were here & I didn't want to think I was an odd child who takes photos of her dinner  :P

Thanks for the info Maddy,  I have 2 Tefal PC's for the stove top that I really love although must say the smaller one is my fav.  Cookie I was always scared of them as well because had heard so many horror stories.  When we have been in India it's not unusual for three or more of them to be hissing away but that noise makes me cringe!!!!   Anyway these new breed of PC's are made in such a way that they can't blow and also do not hiss.  Once I found this out I have never looked back.  Mine also uses a press button to open and close the lid so people with arthritis won't have trouble.  The handles also go down for easy storage.

This new one looks great and if I didn't already have mine then would be tempted!!!!!

Thanks for the recipe re the chops & french soup, must give it a go Maddy!!!

I'm the same Trudy, love my stove top PC's and think this looks great and was tempted but definitely don't need it and just looking through my cupboard to see what I can get rid of so don't want to add anything else.

Maddy how are you finding PC still loving it?

I am thinking I might get one this weekend :)

Post by: maddy on November 11, 2013, 08:55:16 am
Yep, still love it Yvette  :)
Used it tonight....made the WW caramelised pepper pork, but used pork loin chops instead of pork belly.
I still find it very user friendly & I think the browning function is hotter & quicker compared to the 5 in 1.
It is less bulky for storage in comparison, yet the bowl holds a large quantity.
I'm sure you'll be pleased with it  ;)

Sorry Choco....missed your post...
I double the sauce quantity, and at the end of cooking, keep pork warm in thermoserve & thicken the sauce with browning function.
I also use more pork than recipe suggests.

Maddy just have a question I find when cooking with meat, not chicken or fish the meat is still tough after cooking. This happened with the Massaman Curry and I left it in the fridge for a day then heated and ate and it was delish but if you wanted to eat straight away I don't think it would taste good. Have you found this?
Title: Re: The Tefal Cook4me pressure cooker

Interesting Yvette....can't say I've had that issue yet....but I usually cook with  our own beef/lamb, so I know it's quality & has been hung for a good period of time....not like the supermarkets.  That does impact on tenderness.

I do know that you can overcook in the PC, as well as undercooking....so maybe Check the doneness a couple of minutes earlier than recipe states, as you can easily add extra time to cooking if needed.
I guess it all depends on the meat.

Yesterday I forgot to defrost meat for dinner, so I grabbed a peppered sirloin roast & a spiced roadt from aldi & cooked in PC.
I seared, than it suggested to cook in basket with 200ml water (I cooked for 40 mins. for the 2 of them)

It turned out great

Kids only like eating meat cooked in the PC (Lazy chewers I'm guessing)....hubby slowly coming around to it  :-\

Thanks Maddy yours looks delish. I have bought the chuck steak from two different butchers and both have turned out the same. But both have reheated great we had the Massaman Curry tonight and I reheated it in the microwave and it was beautiful. Might try gravy beef or something next time. I guess it is ok if you don't want to eat it straight away but was just wandering if this was normal.
