Title: A little sad
Post by: tarasis on July 20, 2013, 08:53:41 pm
My wife borrowed my phone to go shopping. Unfortunately she dropped it outside trying to out it in her handbag.

I'm not upset, surprisingly, though sad. She was kinda sweet, she came in looking sad, gave me a hug and then showed me the phone. Followed by "when is the next one coming out?", so now we need to decide do we get the screen replaced (it's usable, but hard to read in places) or do we hold off the three / four months till the 5S comes out, or do both.

If your wife doesn't have a fancy phone I would get it fixed and buy the new one when it comes out so you both have a fancy phone.  :D

Oops. Recently did the same to my mimi IPad.  They will replace it for a price. The pain in the butt is backing up everything and downloading it again.  Putting stuff  where they should be is time consuming.

Didn't ask but sure I know the answer. Does it still work?

The screen can be replaced relatively cheaply. We have a local man who does it for $60. I'd fix it and give to your DW then you get the new one when it comes out or vice versa.

Your poor wife, she must have felt awful. I'd see what it costs to get fixed before I made any decision.

I've dropped my iPhone a few times over the years and despite a few dinks in the casing I've never actually broken the screen. I kind of pit that down to luck and the screen protectors.

I think you jinxed yourself. I bet you didn't "touch wood" when you wrote that?

@CreamPuff apparently so, though to be fair it was my wife that dropped it & not me.

She did feel really bad about it, though admitted had I done it she would be been very upset / angry with me :)

(Apologies I don't have names to respond to, Tapatalk just showing me the screen for typing, not the posts)

We looked at the videos about doing the glass replacement ourselves and decided that it was a little too tricky and too easy to mess up; plus we lacked a heat gun. So the missus decided just to go ahead and get it replaced for the princely sum of 229€. Nicely they simply replaced the whole phone rather than swapping out the screen unit.

Phone is not restored yet as my backup is against iOS 7 beta and I can't get the beta yet as Apple's Developer website is down since last Thursday. So for now it's just a basic phone & a couple of essential apps.
