Title: Hi from Far North Queensland
Post by: quirkycooking on July 10, 2009, 07:39:17 am
Hi, my name's Jo, and I live in Far North Queensland with my husband and four kids.  I've had a Thermomix for nearly 5 years now, first the TM21, then the TM31 - I sold the TM21 to my sister a few months ago and it's still going fine.  I wouldn't be without my Thermomix, and I became a consultant because, in the words of my 10 year old, "I think everyone should have one!"  I love trying new recipes and making up my own.  Looking forward to chatting with many Thermomix addicts from all over the world! ;D

Great to see you here Jo - put a link to your Blog in the signature of your profile and go to the News section and put the details you are happy to include in the Demonstrators list set up by Karen (brazen)

Hello!  Wonderful to have you here - our family too avoids dairy and wheat (and eggs, nuts, sesame) in our diet!  I have been experimenting with recipes and will love to have your ideas too!  Fun!

Welcome Jo. Imagine being on your 2nd Thermomix, that is a very good advertisement for them.

Just thought -you may be very useful for questions like - does the Varoma from a TM21 fit the TM 31? - wouldn't think so but you may be able to help?

Welcome Jo, I'd be really interested in finding out how you use/find the TM useful for your large family. Do you do separate meals for the kids or all together.  It's an issue I sometimes face with people with 4 kids thinking 2 litres won't be big enough for their family.

JaneeZee,

I have 5 kids, 3 teenage boys and a 4 and 2 year old and the 2 litres makes enough for us as you normally serve things like Butter Chicken with rice etc or I cook a heap of veges in the Varoma.

I find if I cut them reasonably small they will cook from the steam with the dish cooking in about the same time with out having to use the varoma setting.

With the Mushroom Risotto and Pasta Fagioli there always seems to be enough and my boys are big eaters!!

Sometimes with things that are quick(which I love when we have a house full of extras) I will make one lot, put it in the Thermoserve and make another lot ;)

I think it is the fact that it is wholesome food and it seems to fill you up better.

If I am worried that there isn't enough I generally throw a custard on to cook  ;D they are boys and that is always a winner  ;) ;D

Hi, I'm finally back!  Yes, as you can see there's lots you can do in the TMX for big families.  I often make bread rolls to go with meals, or a salad, or do the whole 'rice, coconut sauce, chicken, veges & omelette' thing all at once with the Varoma.  (Like for fried rice, or chicken laksa, etc.)  Or mashed potatoes in the bowl and steamed veges on top.  A friend of mine has 6 kids plus 'woofers', and always has enough with the TMX - just add some side dishes/meat, or use the warmer to make a couple of things.  And we often have custard after too - so quick and easy, and lots of different flavours and ideas - lemon, orange, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, choc-hazelnut... too easy.

I have recipes on my blog: www.quirkycooking.blogspot.com - if you see something there I've mentioned but not posted a recipe for, and you want it, let me know.

I forgot to answer the question about the TM21 Varoma on the TM31 machine, or vice versa - I'll have to go to my sister's and try it!  But I don't think so, as the TM31 bowl is wider.  Probably not.

I did enjoy browsing your blog Jo - it's a little beauty.  Will pop in there from time to time to see what you are up to.

Hey Bel!

Bel is my main supporter!  Every consultant needs a friend like her - at her last demo, every single person said 'yes' to buying a TMX!!!  And one told her sister in Africa about the TMX, and she bought one too (from Germany though, not from me - oh well  :) )

Great to hear - "singing" ... We are family, ............

Wish Thermomix Australia would look at setting up a Forum/vehicle for more community spirit.
