Tips/Hints:
This filling recipe is from the Beechworth Bakery book. I have made it a few times and must admit that I am now lazy and just shove it all into a frying pan on the stove and cook it for about 8-10 minutes, thicken and cool. The umami (not in the original recipe) gives it a lovely flavour.

Hally - I made these exactly as Cookies method at the top. I did add peas, always looking for extra veg for kids.
As you can see its lovely & thick & I know the kids & dh will love this. Am going to make mini pies & some larger ones from this. It made 30 pies in my mini pie maker. The flavour is good, I did use a fair bit of pepper.

For the base I used short rust and the top bought puff in a sheet.

-
Thanks cookie and great question Judy you have such an eagle eye and I read through the recipe a few times :-))
-
These are used to thicken the meat ingredients. After they have cooked for a while. It only needs a short time as it cooks in the oven more.
-
I've put a couple of changes into the recipe to try and make it clearer. Hope it helps.

When you say. "little" Hally... Is that roughly muffin size? I'm guessing these would freeze well.

Now they are all done, I got exactly 30 pies, dont forget I added peas too.
Freeze well for sure :)
-

-
It will be a staple, like beef dianne, spag bol for the kids, quick, easy & tasty :)

-
Hally does the filling have a lot of flavour? With so few ingredients I'm worried it may be a little bland.
-
The flavour is good, I did use a fair bit of pepper.
:)
-
You would think so Wonder but the pepper and the umami make it quite tasty.
