Well ladies I am in the market for a new stove for the house we have bought. The one that is there is much too small and won't fit two cookie trays side by side so that just won't do. ;D
I have noticed that most ovens are now electric and as I have only ever cooked with gas up till now would like some opinions on what is the best way to go. DH has been looking at the EMILIA brand which has a gas/electric oven.
Any of your thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.

find out which brands are help with repairs, service, warranty.
You don't want a expensive oven, that takes weeks to get parts and repair.
:) I would go on to whirlpool forums.
My stove is gas, never had any problems with it at all.
I have just had my Mums oven fixed, it is 10 years old, parts were under $100 from Melbourne, after we were told it cant be repaired.

I envy you, I would love a new oven / cooker.
Take your time and do your research well, fan ovens, which I think is about all you can get these days, can be useless (the temperature in mine varies by as much as 30 degrees or more on each shelf so I am always burning everything). From what I can gather, the European brands tend to be better, but wait to see what everyone else has to say. However, I think this will definitely be a case of you get what you pay for.

Here's (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=11179.0) a previous discussion on ovens Margaret - always handy to read as much as you can before buying something like this.

Margaret don't buy an Ilve as I have had endless problems with it from day 1 and am seriously considering buying a new one. If I had to buy a new one I would go Miele as it is highly recommended here on the forum. Ask Hally or Emerald Sue as they both have Miele. Lots of other good ones around and I am sure you will get some great advice from the forum members :D

Judy has one too.

I didn't know that Cookie
I wish I had one ;D

I'm in the market for a new oven and cook top too. I am considering the Siemans Pyrolytic oven . And Bosch Flexinduction cooktop , so many to choose from.

I have just bought a Miele oven and love it! I
;D

Electric oven and a gas cook top is considered the best option. Obviously the gas cook-top gives you the best heat control without needing to worry if your cook wear is compatible with the cook-top as is the case with induction. Electric ovens give a nice even heat.
Brand wise really depends on where you live and who the service agent is. I would check out Choice and see what their recommendations are.

Miele, just the best :)
-
Yes I have a Miele MF, courtesy of DD who bought it and another one for their new house but by the time it was built she had changed her mind and wanted something different. A friend bought one from her and I had the other one for the huge price of $500 :D Best bargain of all time.

Eventually I'm going to have to replace ye olde trusty 25 year old gas stove....a Miele oven would be so lovely.... :)

As den said, electric oven and gas cooktop is best combination. I cooked with mums gas oven when I lived at home, then changed to electric when I got married. I coped with the change. Updated our terrible kleenmaid oven a few years ago with a blanco pyroletic (self cleaning) and are absolutely happy with it, especially the cleaning bit. MKR used them in kitchen headquarters. If I could afford Miele I would buy it, but can't. Check out choice website for good research and model comparison. Good luck and don't forget to let us know what you decide.

We got an Omega, its huge and I love it :D Its has an electric oven and gas cooktop, which, like Kimmy and Den said, is the best way to go. It has 5 elements on top, I want to try using them all at once but I only have 2 hands ;D The oven space is huge and has different functions to do different things. The thing I love most is that I can turn the fan on and off so I can finally bake properly! :D We had a really old oven before this one and it was terrible, the fan was stuck on really high and my cakes would always burn before they were cooked through, and it would even blow the foil off my cake pans unless I wrapped it really tight. The elements on the old stove were also knackered, they went either full blast or not at all. So glad to be rid of that one ;)

I had a demo with the induction and it cooks twice as fast as gas and turns off instantly, my pots are German Soligen steel and can be used for induction, I have gas and love it but like the clean lines of the glass top.

We are building a new house soon & I am looking at Falcon ovens.
They have gas cooktop/electric oven & induction/ electric combinations.
I am looking at the induction cooktop but am not sure at this stage as it means
buying new pots & pans! Still researching...

I wish I did have a Miele. :'(
My oven is a linea 90cm fan forced electric, and I have a gas cooktop. I did have lots of problems with it, but it is OK now that I have had the hinges and thermostat replaced.
-
Sorry ES I was sure that you had a Miele. No idea why I got it wrong.
Wish I had one too :)

Are your pots definitely not compatible? We have an induction hob, and I was pleasantly surprised to find our pot set worked fine! Apparently you can just try a magnet on your pots - if it sticks, it will work (so I've heard). I only had to pass on one small frypan that was not the same type and didn't work. I LOVE the speed and control of the induction cooktop.
We have Bosch everything (DH is biased as he used to work for Bosch, although in a completely unrelated area) and they have been great so far. Also heard great things about service & replacement, well beyond the warranty period.

I have an Electrolux pyrolitic oven and wouldn't recommend it. It's great that is "self cleans" but it runs a bit cool. It's okay now that I've worked it out.
-
I have a 900mm SMEG electric oven with Gas cooktop. The cooktop is fine but the oven is hopeless and I've been dissapointed with it since day 1. I'm always hoping it will break down and we will have no choice but to buy a new one. I would definitely go with an induction cooktop and electric oven. Even though not all pots/pans work on the induction we dont' use that meany different ones and could make do with only a few options and repurchase a little at a time.

It's just fantastic MF! I've had it maybe 6 weeks and love it! It's just the standard 600mm size (couldn't fit the larger one in) with the pyrolytic cleaning function. It also has Moisture Plus function on it ( I haven't used yet ) which injects bursts of steam in the oven while cooking which is meant to be great baking breads and roasts. The temperature starts at 30 degrees, it has rapid heat up which takes maybe 4 mins to get to 200 degrees and I just love the cool touch door! I find that fantastic as our kitchen is open plan with our lounge and dining and is not possible to put gates on with DS who is 15 months. It is also a very even cooking oven, muffins and cakes cook very evenly. I think the one thing that I prefer on my old St George oven was the timer, Miele's can only be set to a maximum of 59 mins and 55 secs and to set it, it is the style where you hold your finger over the arrow up symbol which starts off counting up slow then after a few seconds it gets a real speed up and I generally miss the time that I wanted! :-)) I'm sure I'll get better with practice ;)

Sounds wonderful kt2 and has all the functions that I would love.
My Ilve is the 900mm as I often cook for between 8 and 14 adults and like to do roasts and slow cooked food when cooking for lots of people. The oven is fine and has the cool touch door which is great when I have the little kids here as wouldn't want ant burnt little fingers. My home is open pan too so impossible to prevent them coming into the kitchen.
My problem is the hot plates keep cutting out so when trying to coordinate everything I suddenly see that a couple of them have cut out and no longer cooking in which case some things are cooked and ready while others are only half cooked. Have had endless service people here and have had the gas pressure checked but still the same problem. The simmer burner never cuts out nor does the Teppanyaki plate but the other three are totally unpredictable and they are the ones I use the most. . Have asked for a replacement but to no avail they say there is nothing wrong with it ???
It wasn't cheap so I am reluctant to have to buy a new one and I wouldn't sell this to anyone else knowing that it is a dud!!!
Love the sound of the moisture plus function which would be great when baking or roasting. I am sure you will get better with practice and that the food will be beautifully cooked. Wish I had bought Miele when we built this house. Was my own fault as I wanted an Ilve but never again.

MF can't you get a replacement oven. Is it under warranty still.
-
I have tried that Robyn but Ilve insist there is nothing wrong with it even although they have sent out service people more than a dozen times. My builder tried too but it's not his responsibility as I bought it independently ( big mistake).
I feel it should be replaced as its never worked properly. Sometimes the flames will stay on for 20 minutes or more and sometimes 20 seconds. It's unpredictable and I hate it. >:(
-
I would go to A Current Affair, or a show like that.
Always works, when I say that.
Whirlpool would not warrant my fridge, under warranty, untill I mentioned that.
-
Didn't think of that Robyn thx ;)

Your pota and pans don't need to be expensive for induction. We bought an induction hot plate for the van and of course our pots didn't work on it. I went to Big W with a magnet and bought a lovely looking set, including a frying pan for $49.99.
If we stay overnight somewhere it isn't worth lifting the thermomix out so we use the induction hot plate.

MF just wondering if you have gas hot water? The reason I ask is that when we put the cooktop in here it was suggested to us to put a larger gas line in than was listed. The lady told us that she had gas hot water as well as a cook top and when someone turned on the hot water one of her gas burners use to go out. They did not pick up the problem until they tested the cooktop with the hot water turned on at the same time. We have gas hot water as well as the cooktop. Oven is electric. Just a thought
