I have had the TM21 for about 6 or 7 years and it definitely hasn't been worked of it's feet. A few months ago I started having problems with the speed switch which didn't want to switch off properly and then the blades seemed to take on a life of their own and work when and where they wanted. Now the temperature switch is inaccurate. Thought it was time to take it in to be serviced. The quote I received from head office in Perth was $413 as the main control board has a fault.
I was told this is extremely rare which doesn't really help me. I have decided to call it quits as I can't justify the cost. Just wondering if anyone else has had this same problem.
As the machine is supposed to be such high quality workmanship I would have expected it to have lasted longer than 7 years ...

Hi bluegum, welcome to the forum with your first posting. Sorry it is not a happy posting. I'm afraid I couldn't live without my TM31 so if I had to spend that much money to get it fixed, I would either do that or buy a new one but as far as costs go, getting it fixed is the cheaper option and that is the path I would go down.

bluegum, I notice that your TMX is a TM 21. have you had is since new? I thought that the TM31 had been out for about 10 years.
However this is bad news and I feel for you. To fix this older model, that is 1/4 of the price of a new one. If mine dies when it is this age, i will buy a new one.

Bluegum I feel for you. Life without the tmx would be ghastly. Like Chookie I wonder if you have had this from new?

Blue gum my DD and I both had very expensive repairs recently. I could not live with out mine. I would buy a new one.

I'm surprised you would all buy a new one when these machines can last decades - even if it means parts have to be replaced from time to time. With the current model being 10 years old, it is only a matter of time (I don't know for sure of course but say 5 years max) and Vorwerk is bound to be bringing out a new model. I'd be prepared to pay the money to fix my problem now so that, if I wanted to, I could then afford the new model when it is released down the track. I don't need 2 machines but if I did, it would mean I would then have 2 working models.

I love my thermomix but I"m not very fond of HQ so I would personally think very carefully before I bought a new one if mine died (fingers crossed it won't).....with the new competitors on the market (another commercial one has been released (looks a little too bellini like to me) and there is another from a VERY reputable supplier that is coming very soon...there will be more choice. I think that it will be very interesting to see how long it takes for a new version of the thermomix to be released...that would be something that may sway my opinion depending on its features. I like the program options in some of the new machines.

I think replacements of out tmx ( if we should ever need too, and I sincerely hope not) will need a little more thought in the future. As time passes other good machines, and not so good ones, are being released. As consumers we can only benefit from the competition. Having said that I love my Termite to bits and don't every want him to become ill. If I have jinxed him I will cry for a week. ;) :D

I have to agree , mostly with what you say, Cookie. However I have spent many hours converting recipes to this machine. I really don.t think I would want to adjust them to a different machine. If THM bring out a new Model
i can' see them making changes that would make all the TMX Books obsolete. l

No, it would take a while to become comfortable with another machine. I love how I don't really need to think when using thermomix now.

How true. I now have to think when using the stove top. Especially with evaporation.

Cook top.. Stove.. Induction, gas etc whatever you have.. What do you call it dg?
I love thermie and would have to see what the new modèle has... I think they would be stupid to change the fonction and therefore render the cookbooks obsolète due to the cost of them imo.. Only time Will tell..
