Title: Grinding
Post by: Meegles on January 22, 2013, 10:15:01 pm
Hi, hoping I can get some advice, please?

Yesterday I was making cakes and icing.. I bought regular white sugar to grind my own icing sugar, and kept grinding on 10 for over a minute and still I had grainy icing... I read posts where a few seconds is all that is needed.. I am expecting a powder but don't get it... Am I expecting too much? Also when I make "Nutella" or peanut butter I hope for the super smooth consistency from the shop versions, but it is always grainy...

Thanks in advance

Hi Meegles - and a warm welcome to the forum! Have a good look at the link that Judy gave you - This method of grind/cool etc does work!  Good luck!

:D :D  Sorry GF, I'm a bit like a dog fetching a ball when I see a question that I know there is an answer to on the forum.  :-* :-*

DG, tried it again and it took me to icing sugar - GF, it worked for you didn't it?

That's really odd... When I looked at that link earlier it was fine. Just looked again and it was chick peas ???

Meegles- the idea is to grind the sugar then let cool/grind and then let cool... Repeat this around 10x so it is not gritty... This is advice from Tenina holder .. TMX author extraordinaire :)

I keep getting the icing sugar thread (topic 10808.0) but I've re-done it to see if it removes the gremlins.  That is weird GF.

You're not going to believe this . . . . on both at the moment. On the PC  clicked on Judy's link and it takes you to icing sugar . . .

After all that discussion I just had to try the link to see if I got chick peas or icing sugar. I'm on the iPad and got icing sugar  :)

Ain't technology great.

How weird.
The link on my iPad in Tapatalk took me to chick peas.
The link in my iPhone in Safari took me to icing sugar.

Thank you very much for that assistance! I was about to go out and buy icing sugar but will have a go at this, do you think the same principle works for nuts?

Not sure Meegles... You could try and see.. Theoretically I would say yes but not sure about the reality!

I grind, I cool, I grind, I cool, over and over, much better result but still slightly grainy... 😥

It could be that commercial icing sugar has the benefit of different machinery (not to mention additives) ... Can't be sure though ...
