Is it possible to preserve fruits in bottles in the Thermomix. I don't want to make jam - just preserve it in a light syrup, like Grandma used to do when fruits were plentiful?
I looked at buying a Fowlers Vacola preserving system, but now I wondering if TMX can do it, perhaps in the basket?
(I am a new owner, having only had mine since Christmas.)
Thank you.

Yes you can preserve in the TMX, but I think it is not worth the trouble. I did one jar just to see if I could do it.This is what I did.
Select a 300 ml jar that will fit into the basket and the lid of TMX will close on it . Sterilise the jar and lid.. A jar with a small white rubber ring in the lid.
I found that two med. sized apples would fill the Jar.
Core and peel apples and slice into 16/20 slices.
Push apple slices into jar and add 50 mls of water, ( sugar not necessary) .
place lid on jar and GIVE IT A 1/2 TWIST. Not on tight as the air has to be able to escape as the heat builds up in the jar.
Pour 1. 1/2 litres of cold water into TMX bowl, place basket in bowl, place jar sitting upright into basket.
Set machine, 30 mins/ Varoma/ speed 1, with cup in. The cup will not sit right down but will keep most of the steam in.
Remove jar and twist to seal the lid. Place on a wire rack to cook. As it cools the lid will pop and contract, sealing the jar.
I usually preserve my fruit in the microwave using a similar method. It takes 2 to 4 minutes.

The microwave wins hands down then Chookie - thanks for doing the experiment.
You will find Chookies microwave method here (http://achookwoman.blogspot.com.au/2010/10/bottled-fruit-using-microwave_17.html) on her blog. To the right of that page (in the blog archive) you will find all the pictorial steps for the method.
