I have had a clean out of all my cooking books (and I still have quite a few!) There are about 50 or so, mostly WWW books plus others. Free to anyone who can pick them from me, north of Perth. One condition... must take the lot! Just email me
-
:D :D :D someone will
-
Pity I am not nearby :D
If no one takes them, donate them to Vinnies or your local high school.
-
Just a dumb question Kayc. Does your WWW stand for Women's Weekly, Weight Watcher's, or something else?
-
Sorry, it should be Australian Womens Weekly
-
Now were interested, lol ;D
I thought it was weight watchers :o :o
-
LOL!
-
Good healthy cookbooks and no-one was interested - once it was revealed they were Women's Weekly, a different matter :D
If I was in Perth I would have been on your doorstep Kay - I have always loved them but there must be some I haven't got.

I dont drive north of the river unless its cottesloe >:(
-
I am not familiar with Perth but have always been fascinated about this great divide by the river! Is it the physical distance or an "emotional" one??!!
-
It is a bit of a running joke. People who live north of the river prefer that side and the same with us south of the river people. Perth is expanding northwards quite quickly. In the south there is Rockingham and Perth is spreading that way quickly as well.
Often people on one side are not as familiar with roads etc on the other side. Eg I live south and can pretty well find my way around most places on this side of the river very easily. On the north side I am no where near as familiar with the areas. I think we tend to shop etc on our side of the river, unless we need to go somewhere special like a class by Tenina that is north of the river.
-
It seems to be emotional with some people although I don't understand why ???
Cookie is correct in her explanation as I have lived NOR since arriving in Perth in 1981.
We chose Hillary's as we wanted to live by the beach and have never regretted it.
I am ok going south to mandurah or Margaret river but get lost going anywhere else. NOR I can go anywhere easily.
all of our family are NOR as well.
-
You have to admit that it is interesting for outsiders - mind you there are some sydney siders who will not travel outside their area eg eastern suburbs!
-
Even Canberra has a Northside v Southside thing!
-
And Canberra is a planned "circular" city!
-
Yes, but there's a lake in the middle which creates the divide!
-
I have always lived south & wouldnt dream of living north, lol. Thought about cottesle but still no, love where we are :)
Funny people we are in Perth :)
-
Canberra is almost as bad as Perth for north vs south. I think Perth people are a bit more passionately territorial though. I've lived on both sides of Perth (oh the horror!) and think there are merits to both :) I wouldn't live in the hills though :)
-
we just live in paradise.... ;D ;D ;D

Before I was married I lived south of the river, now I'm north which I'm more familiar with. When I do go south, I can't believe how much change in over 25 years. It's like going back to another country. Last year I had to go to my uncles funeral and the road I once travelled daily to work was unrecognisable. Having said that my sister lives just across the river in sth pth, but if she lived nth we'd probably visit each others homes a lot more instead of meeting somewhere in the middle. It's weird, only takes me 15 mins to get to her house!
-
I think it's just what you get used to and what you are familiar with.
The best thing DH and I have done in our lives is bringing our children to live in this wonderful country that we all share,no matter which state, city or suburb that we live in ;D

The river sounds a bit like the Berlin Wall :o
-
It does Judy - Is there a bridge across it?
-
I'm pretty sure there is more than one bridge, Perthites will tell us how many. The Swan River is the nicest river I've ever seen.
-
I have to drive 1 hour to visit my sister or brother.
Much easier for them to visit me.... :)
-
It does Judy - Is there a bridge across it?
There are bridges. There aren't tolls, but judging by the hesitation some people show about crossing those bridges you'd think you had to offer your first born to cross :P
-
LOL. yes Judy there are several bridges. Probably the largest are the Narrows bridge, the Causeway bridge and the Fremantle traffic bridge. There are others like the the Garrett Road Bridge that aren't quite as large. ( I've probably forgotten some so forgive me).
It's all rather funny. I went to boarding school NOR ,just, but married and lived SOR. it's probably what you get used to.
I speak to my brother in Canberra more frequently than I speak to my brother in East Perth.

We had no idea about this north and south of the river nonsense when we arrived from Scotland in 1981. All we knew was that after coming that distance we wanted to be able to walk to the beach as we didn't live on the coast in scotland but in a valley surrounded by hills. Scotland has a beautiful coastline and lovely beaches but not the weather to enjoy it!!!
We picked out a beach suburb before we left Scotland and only moved up to Mindarie 3 years ago to be able to care for my parents. We moved within Hillary's during that time as we liked the area but also I didn't want my children to move schools.
We were very unsure of whether we would be happy up here in Mindarie but have never looked back. Feels like being on holiday every day.
That could also be as we became empty nesters when we moved here ;D ;D

Melbourne has a NOR/SOR thing too, the river being the Yarra. We jokingly call north of the Yarra 'the dark side' - which is where I live, and love it! It's more grungy and bohemian (although there's some pretty expensive real estate in the inner suburbs) and supposedly everyone wears black e.g. Brunswick street, Lygon street, High Street (Northcote) etc, whereas the south side is a bit more posh - think Chapel Street, High Street (Armadale), Toorak Road, Brighton.
I don't mind going SOR though - in fact I can't avoid it, since my workplace is on the southern banks, appropriately named Southbank!
-
I walk past your place of work frequently when I am in Melbourne.
