Title: Suggestions for chutney rescue
Post by: hstevens on January 03, 2013, 08:28:33 am
Well, today I think I might have made the first mess up since I got my darling at Christmas.
I made a beetroot chutney from the UK website I think it was, but it is too 'thin' and too much liquid. It said it might thicken on cooling but it hasnt as yet.
Do you think I should put it back in the  TM and add some cornflour and reheat? would that work?
It tastes delicious, but it would not be able to be used on a sandwich etc and it would be a shame to waste it.
Any of your thoughts  would be most appreciated!
 :-)) Helen

I'd put it back in the TM bowl and cook on Varoma temp for a while, that will thicken it Helen.  Just keep your eye on it, 5 minutes might be enough remembering if it looks thick it will thicken even more on cooling.

agree,  but have the cornflour ready.  Depends on how much extra liquid.  Leave the cap out and put basket on top to stop splashes.

put it back in, and ended up thickening a little, came out perfect, although a little 'hot' I didnt realise the chilli flakes I purchased for the job had 'HOT' written on the jar :-\

I'm glad it worked out. You'll obviously only need a little of it if it is so hot then. ;) ;) ;)

Beetroot doesn't have a special taste and further it becomes pulpy after boiling hence you have to be smart for making beetroot chutney.
I have some tips for making beetroot chutney which may you.
1 : cook beetroot in pressure cooker.
2: Press beetroot add water and some gram floor in it.
3 : Add Spices you have and cook for 10 minutes.
Now you have a tasty beetroot chutney.
