Has anyone else noticed that Hot Cross Buns are in the shops already? :o
Woolies has them.
Is it just me - or is anyone else not overly impressed with them being in the shops now...a mere 3 months out from Easter?
I refuse to buy certain shaped chocolate or hot cross buns until the week before Easter.
-
Both Coles and Woolies have them. I noticed when I was looking at the junk mail for the specials. Unbelievable. There is a bit in inside Cover in today's West Australian about how you think they would let baby Jesus have a few days before they introduced Easter to kill him off
-
LOL Cookie ;D
I didn't notice any hot cross buns in Woolies in today, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were there. I'm like you Nikkit, I don't buy any Easter or Christmas products until we are at least in the right month! Supermarkets really annoy me >:(
But we, being awesome Thermomix owners, can have beautiful Hot Cross Buns any time of year anyway ;D
-
Our Coles has Easter eggs too :o Didn't notice any hot cross buns. They are still clearing out the Christmas stock.
-
Noooo... I haven't even cut the Christmas cake yet.
-
Didn't we do this last year? Crazy stuff.

Gosh. I thought we had to endure the valentine's day marketing assault before Easter.
-
.....and the going back to school junk too.
-
Valentines has appeared here already.... 6 weeks to go.
Just money making madness...
-
Ignore them all, make your own Hot X Buns. Good recipes here.
-
It's crazy to have them out this early

Agree chookie ;D
-
don't give in to all the marketing crap.
Make them yourself at Easter.
-
I did make my own last year, and bought some too, but was just a bit cross at the thought that we can't enjoy the post Christmas fun (??) with our kids and presents on holidays before the supermarkets crack on with the next 'major' event.
Marketing 101... give 'em 5 minutes to cringe at the credit card bill and hit them with the next thing on the list.
Not that I'm religious...but what does Jesus and hot cross buns and chocolate all have to do with each other anyway?
And you are right Gert - this topic probably was discussed last year, I was just a bit cranky and had to vent after my trip to the shops.
-
I noticed hot x buns in wollies too....ooooooodddddlllllleeeeesssss of them all marked down to 99c/9pk, so I don't think they can have sold very many!! ;D
-
Lol. Easter buns marked down in January..... Anyone could be forgiven for thinking they may have
been left over from last year!!! ;)
-
Haha goldfish! Were they cold astarra? They may have been frozen...and passed off as fresh ???
-
They said on their sticker they were freshly made that day...but you never know I guess!!! :D :D
-
I have seen stickers like that - but when picking up the bread it has felt cold, and some have even still had ice crystals in the packaging...me thinks not so "baked today" fresh!

Some bread is par-baked overseas, frozen, shipped to Australia and then the cooking is finished and it is sold as freshly baked bread.
-
That's incredible!! Who thinks up these cockamamie schemes??? So pleased to be making my own bread, buns, pizza bases etc etc now .. Thanks to the forum!!! :)

That is disgusting. When you think of the low cost, making your own bread. What on earth are they putting in it.????
-
WW sells fruit buns all year round. DH loves them and for $2.50 for half a dozen I wouldn't bother putting the oven on.
-
ww and coles don't really care about you at all.
its all in the mighty marketing dollar
we will advertise $$ for $$

Obviously gold dust.
-
why not make your own... ;D
-
I spoke to the guy manning the "freshly baked" section at Coles and he confirmed that all they do is stick them in the oven - bread arrives par baked.
-
Is it just me or does that seem like a rather gross misrepresentation!?? Hate to think what's in them!
-
I did see them in woolies today. The display was nearly empty, so some people are getting in quick :-))
