So many forum members have received cookbooks from their SS and I'm sure many of us will receive them for Christmas. (I know I will :) :)).
I was hoping that people could post the name of the book and what they think of it. Then hopefully when they have made something from it they would post how the recipe worked out.
I've found that if a recipe works well others probably will too.
Merry Christmas.
-
I've made this a sticky, hope that is ok with everyone?
-
Sure is Cookie, it will be an ongoing thread.
-
This is a great idea, thanks cookie :)

-
Oh yes that naughty Hally, but Halex is a different story........lol

I received 3 cookbooks for Christmas. I've barely had a look but will add them when I have.
-
I received 7 new cookbooks this Xmas, as well as a Dymocks gift voucher so I can buy another one.
No reviews as yet as I haven't had time to look at them.
My MIL also gave me this folder/book where I can write all my favourite recipes.

How gorgeous is that recipe folder? What a lovely gift. :)
-
Oh dear cookie .. Im doomed lol 😳
-
I received several cookbooks for Chrissy. The one I cooked for on Christmas Day was The Revive Cafe Cookbook. It's a vegetarian cookbook from the cafe by the same name in Auckland.
I made Neatloaf for Christmas day and it was lovely and am cooking meatless meatballs tonight.
-
I will try and stay away from this thread :D :D ;D ;D

Hi CC I have a Mary Berry Book that is about 25 years old and I still refer to it she is a real legend. Not sure if I have seen that book here in Australia.
-
I bought my self the oz Harvest Cookbook, just before Christmas and tonight made Magggie beers Waste-not (definitely want) Frittata using some of the left overs from yesterdays lunch. Very nice, all the left over finished DS came home :D :D :D

I love Mary Berry too GHM ;D Shall I say I have a few of her cookery books :-)) :-)) I was fortunate to attend a couple of her cookery classes at her home in Penn.A friend who owns an Aga asked me to go along with her on the courses, how could I say no :D :D :D Mary is now retired from those cookery classes, she has handed the business over to her prodigy Lucy Young.Lucy's cookery books are very good too ;D
-
I received Simply Heaven (Volume 3) Chocolate by Philadelphia/Cadbury and Alyce's TMX low carb cook book.
Oops, I forgot one that I had put out of sight - WW Squares & slices (sorry Cookie :-*)
-
Oh dear have not heard of Mary Berry, but sounds like she would have some good books, must start looking, sigh :)
-
I got a book voucher for Christmas so I'll be buying a new cookbook. Can't wait to go and pick one out ;D
-
I wonder what book you will buy Amy, cant' wait to hear.
I love Mary Berry too and I have a couple of books from the Great British Bake Off. How wonderful you went to a couple of her cooking classes CC.
I actually received a Mary Berry cookbook for Xmas - Mary Berry's Desserts.
I also received:
The Fabulous Baker Brothers (Tom & Henry Herbert)
Hugh's Three Good Things on a Plate (Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall)
Jamie's 15 Minute Meals
Alyce's new Low Carb TMX cookbook
What Katie Ate (I had to have this book!)
And my SS Trudy gave me Grace's Sweet Life, a book on Italian desserts by Grace Massa Langlois. Not someone I'd heard of before, but it looks like a great book. She has a blog which I've spent a lot of time browsing since receiving the book :)
http://gracessweetlife.com/
-
I also received What Katie Ate as well as Nigella's Christmas, Rachel Allen's Entertaining At Home and Jamie's 15 minute Meals.
Have to be honest DIL gave me Jamie's Book as she knows I had looked at it and said no way would I buy it!!!
It was my SS joke gift and it did make me laugh. ;D
DD 2 may take it off my hands if not I will give it to her MIL to take back to Zimbabwe as these items are very expensive over there so somebody will get good use out of it.
-
I'm loving this thread :)...just when my cookbook collection was slowing down nicely....
I received
Jamie's 15 Minute Meals
For Food's Sake
Quick Fix in the Thermomix
I'm thinking Alyce's new book might be my next one....
-
Me too jamberrie :D
-
What is every one's opinion about the Jamie Oliver book...I did not like the layout of the 30 minute one.
-
What is every one's opinion about the Jamie Oliver book...I did not like the layout of the 30 minute one.
I didn't like the layout of the 30minute one either.
The 15 minute one is better (IMHO) and easier if you just wanted to make one component of the meal. I think there are a few recipes that the TMX could be handy with...a few "chop"style salads and some meatbals are two I've got my eyes on making asap.
There are less 'premade' ingredients than in the 30min one (I didn't like to have to buy tart shells etc) and there is a focus on healthy eating every day (endorsed by a dietitian/nutritionist). That's what I think so far, but I am yet to cook anything from it! I'd never pay full price for a cookbook anyway, but if it's on sale, I think it could be a worthwhile purchase.....oh and another negative...lots of pots and pans are used for each meal (something I'd forgotten about since having a TMX). And no desserts :(
-
I am not a fan of either but much prefer the 30 minute meal book to the 15 minute book.
If you want something that quickly its easy to throw together any number of pasta dishes, rice dishes, steaks, chops, fish and salads and be eating it in 20 minutes without a book.
I have his 20 minute meal apps and don't use them.
Have cooked a couple of dishes from the 30 minute book but 45 minutes was roughly how long it took.
The above is obviously my opinion and we are all different.
I am not a fan of Nigelissima either :-\
-
Thanks MF, was considering getting the 15minute meals.
I'm not a fan of Nigellisma either. Gave it to Obbie and she is enjoying it.
-
I looked at Nigelissima when it first was released and I really didn't like it Michelle and luckily I told my DIL as she was going to buy it for my birthday as she knows I ave all Nigella's early books.
I feel the same with Jamie's 15 minute meals.
Like I said there are lots of simple meals we can prepare quickly if we are in that much of a rush without a recipe ;)
-
Both dh & I love Jamies 15 min meals, takes more like 30 mins, but if you want fast heathy food its fantastic. :)
DH who doesnt cook, seems to do well with this book :) he can cook from it :) so another bnous.
H :)
-
What katie ate .. That book is gorgeous scrummy divine book... I had to have it too and whe. Myer had one of their many recent 40 percent off sales i grabbed it.. Also got a couple of donna hay books
-
Am enjoying making recipes from the latest Delicious book. Everyone a winner.
-
I received Wild Sugar for my SS gift which has so many wonderful desserts (thank you Katie)
My boys (read I purchased and wrapped myself) got me Jerusalem by ottolenghi and tamimi for Christmas and I love it, I've already marked so many recipes to try.
And then at the sales yesterday I got two books by Sally Wise - Sweet and Leftover Makeovers. Whilst I didn't really need leftover makeovers it was down to $3 and I love her recipes so I had to buy it.
-
I have the 2 slow cooker books by Sally Wise snappy. Mine are e-books and have cooked a few recipes from them. Enjoyed the dishes that I cooked.
Can anyone recommend a good pressure cooker cookbook as I don't have one and bought a pressure cooker before Christmas?
My favourite at the moment is What Katy Ate. It's a gorgeous book :D
-
MF, i have some pc books
AWW is good & so is Suzanne Gibbs pc book. I think most of us have these 2.
:)
-
Thanks Hally :)
I actually had a quick look in the supermarkets and news agency for the AWW pressure cookbook but was sold out everywhere :(
Will have a look on Amazon and check out the Suzanne Gibbs one as I am itching to use my pc as only used it once. ;)
Not confident enough with it to wing it ;)
-
Lets make Whoopies, by Sophie Grey
Can't wait to bake something today from this book. :) :)
-
Okay, well I did not look at this thread for 2 whole days, but I just could not resist having a little peak. Can someone please tell me what is on the cover of the "What Katie Ate" book. There appears to be two books with this title and I am wondering which one people have bought.

Marie the different covers reflect whether the book has the American measurements or the English measurements. I can't remember the cover for the Australian book but someone will jump on soon

Marie this photo shows you the different editions.
I presume the one that we all have is the Ausie edition. Well mine is
-
The Aussie one is top left same cover as UK and French editions. Sorry ohoto not great :(
-
Thank you Snappy and MF. Thanks for the photo, I was looking at the bookstores and Angus & Robertson had the two different covers so thought I had better check before I order one. Yep I know, I can't help myself. ;D
Marie
-
Good for you Marie. Just think of it as an end of year treat. :)
-
I got 100 healthy Lunchbox recipes from Amy :D So far looks great and have bookmarked alot of the recipes to try to convert...love the book, thanx Amy :-*
Also got a slow cooker book by Simon and Alison Holst from my mum, which looks interesting but I have yet to get to look at it properally. :)
-

I have two of their slow cooker books. I think the first few pages where they give tips on converting recipes are really useful. I''m not sure which one you've got, but I made the lasagne and won't be making it again....but everything else has been yummy :)
-
I still haven't had a really good look at my new books. The excitement and anticipation is still there. I also received a couple of Dymocks vouchers too. More cookbooks. I am trying to limit myself though. :) :) :)
-
I've added one to my earlier posting - I didn't think 2 books sounded right and maybe even 3 isn't right either but I'm sure I will come across them later and remember they were Christmas presents.
WW squares and slices - a lovely book and I can't wait for a reason to make the cheesecake slice on the front cover. I love slices, they are so much easier to store in the freezer than muffins or patty cakes.
-
Looks good JD.
Cookie, wash your mouth out, tryimg to limit yoursefl :)
-
I have come to the conclusion that none of us on this forum have any willpower when it comes to cookbooks Hally ;D
I am like you and even bring them back from overseas. LOL
Have started putting kindle e cookbooks on my iPad as handy to use in the kitchen and still get the nice colour photos.
-

Haven't seen that one JD. Is it a full sized book? Must look out for it. :D
-
No Michele, it's one of the little series.
-
I love it Michele.
-
What is every one's opinion about the Jamie Oliver book...I did not like the layout of the 30 minute one.
I agree with some of the comments, the layout is all very wellif you ae going to make the whole meal, but if you just want to do one of the dishes you have to unscramble the instructions. Jamie Olivers new cooker thingy has its own web site with some nice recipes maybe convertible??
-
Yes I don't really like the layout of both books either but I type up all the recipes I want to make anyway, so I set them out how I want them to read, makes it easier for me. :)
-

I bought this book today. I still haven't reviewed my Christmas books but that is a work in progress.
This book What's for Dinner by Michele Curtis looks excellent. It seems to cover everything. It's a soft cover book, has 296 pages and photos for each recipe.
It has sections on soups, pasta, rice, stir fries, on the grill, on the stove, in the oven, one pots, salads and desserts. The blurb says it has over 220 recipes with more than 50 variations. There is also an extra section for sides, sauces and dressings.
I haven't made anything from it yet, but will do so in the next menu plan. (Wednesday).
For $10 at the ABC shop I think I have a bargain.

Great bargain, tempted to ring abc & get them to hold one for me. On line it is $40.
:)
-
Gee that's a big difference.
I need to correct my statement re photos for all recipes. Most recipes have photos, not all. It changed toward the end.
-
This post is going to be my downfall!!!!!!!!!!!!
Katie, I brought the Marry Berry Dessert Book would you believe in India.
For Christmas I received
"Bite Me" - Julie Albert & Lisa Gnat
"The Cake Book" - Trish Boyle
"Perfect Light Desserts" - Nick Malgieri
"Bake!" - Nick Malgieri
and a gift card for Nico Moretti's new book which will be out end of January called "Delicious Journeys"

Bought this book today x 2. One for me and one for DF. DF doesn't like to cook and her DH is fussy as. She looked through it and thought she would like to give some recipes a go. Will wait and see if she gets around to using it.
-
That was nice of you.
-
Just googled the Michele Curtis book and it gets good reviews.

They must be selling well as I got the last one at Carousel.

Going to Karrinyup now to pick them up. ;D
You started a buying blitz ;D
-
Yes cookie... Indeed you have :) they're holding mine to be picked up in the next few days. :)

You started a buying blitz ;D
LOL!! I was there at Karrinyup ABC shop waiting for them to open this morning so I could buy this book!! The phone rang a couple of times while I was there so maybe it was you MF!! I also bought Valli Little Home Cooking :D :D :D
-
I won't be making anything from it for a few days so I do hope it is worth it.
-
It was most likely me kt2 as I called a few times before someone finally answered :)
I got them Hally and picked up a pressure cooker book down from 40 to 12 dollars. kt2 I got the Valli Little one too :)
It's Quick and Easy Pressure cooker which is better than the silly little booklet that came with the machine.
Still want the AWW and Suzanne Gibbs PC books. But 12 dollar one will start me off although in this heat hot food not appealing.
Went into Metalicus and saw a top I liked down from $129 to $79. Thought about it then on the way back to the car GD 16 told me I should buy it. Went back took it to the counter and it scanned at $39 so I bought another one in a different colour so got 2 for $78. ;DVery happy :D
-
Good thing you went back MF - great shopping for you today.
-
It was a very good shopping day GD all thanks to Cookie :D
Was 43 on the way home JD so a shopping mall was a good place to be today :D
-
wow MF . . . don't know how you're all coping with that continuing heat!! ???
-
This is when I appreciate aircon and couldn't be without it GF.
Don't know it's hot until I step into the garage or go out the front door and it's like opening the oven door when it's on high heat fan forced :o
Way too hot to be comfortable
-
Great shopping MF :)
Love metallicus too :)
We have no air con in the holiday unit >:(
Rang around a few places today to have lunch in air con.
Were originally seated in an area where the air con didnt reach, complained & we were all set up in the pruvate dining room where we stil are & its lovely & cool. Great service.
Some man came in & complained his area wasnt as cool as ours. Going to tip the lovely lady $20 for moving us, turned an uncomfortabe lunch into a lovely lunch.
We have to leave soon, been here 3 hrs :o boys are good & we are all cool, & to top that our bill was under $200 :o :o :o
Miss our refridgerator air con at home :)
:)
-
You were so lucky getting moved to a private room Hally :) It has been extremely hot here in Perth nd today the hottest >:(
Yes refrigerated air con is the way to go for sure. :D
Have you got evaporative cooling in the unit or nothing?
Do you get the sea breeze coming in?
Yes shopping was good and Metalicus a real bargain for me.
Saw a lovely pair of heels in nine west but had no time to try as GD 16 had to be home to shower and change to go to work poor love .
They will still be there on Thursday ;D
Where did you end up for lunch?
-
I think we were moved as I rang especially to see if they had air con. Capel Vale winery, loely food.
No air con here at all, fans that are about to take off!! Or chop off bdy parts :o
Having a quick lie down, then back to the pool.
Thank you once again MF :)
-
I haven't been to capel vale winery so must go there for a meal next time we go down south, hopefully soon :)
Oh no pease don't lose any body parts sleeping under a wonky fan :o
Cloudy here now and a bit cooler I think.
Don't know as inside but seemed cooler when I drove Alisha to work.
Enjoy the pool. :D
-
Love Valli Little Home cooking book. She gave me a lift from a lunch and I discovered she is such a lovely lady. So now I am a Valli Little groupie!!!
-
I always buy Delicious magazine and love Valli Little's recipes courton. :)
Must be so nice to be a groupie LOL ;)
You are very lucky to have met her and this book looks really good

Had to do a bit of ringing around to get the book yesterday. Have the book on hold in Perth will be going into the city tomorrow to pick it up, if anyone want me to get them a copy let me know, they have a few copies left.
-
I'd love one Jen, even with postage it has to be cheaper than I've seen anywhere on line. If you can get me one, great - if they are all sold by the time you get there, no problems ;D
-
Never heard of Vali Little.
See what you have started cookie :)

I ran this idea past Judy before I put it up. I think it is a great idea, as it may help me to not buy some. I am really trying to cut back on my cookbook purchases. Believe that if you wish!
I think I may change the title to include all cookbook purchases. Then we can review them if we wish to all the time.
Jeninwa, I'm glad you liked the book too. I have to go into the city on Thursday so if anyone wants one after Jen has been let me know and I will have a look.
My next book to review is Adriano Zumbo's Zumbarons. I love trying to make macarons, the best recipe I have used so far is Mara's one (http://www.superkitchenmachine.com/2012/15853/macarons-recipe-thermomix.html) from Helene's site. This book would only be enjoyed by those who love macarons. It is mainly macarons with just a couple of his other desserts. It is small in size, being only A5. Some of the flavours are interesting. Eg Chocolate Peanut Butter and Jelly. Or perhaps you would rather Fig Burnt Honey and Red Wine. It has 117 pages and as you can see from the photo very brightly coloured.
I have loved reading it and may or may not make a flavour from the book. I think it is around $19.95 at Big W.
-
shopping tomorrow, so I can buy some more cookbooks....
-
Cookie, i think this is a great idea :)

I was going to cut back, oh well I can always go through my stack and pass a few on can't I, that way I will make some more room. The other one I order was What Katie ate
Marie
-
Yes I am interested in What Katie ate :). Was fishpond the cheapest?
Thoroughly recommend the wenpbsite Jude suggested, its fantastic if you have a lot of cook books :)
-
Fishpond was the cheapest when I looked the other day, with free postage.
Will have to look at that website
Marie
-
I'm making dinner from the new book tonight. Will post a review tomorrow.
-
Cookie, what are you making :)
-
I'm doing the Stir Fried Sesame Chicken with Noodles. Hopefully it will be nice. Page 82.
-
I like the look of the front cover :)
-
The Stir Fried Sesame Chicken with Noodles was very nice. With 180g of noodles it made enough for at least 4. DH will have enough for lunch tomorrow. The chilli added a very subtle flavour, it was just perfect for us. Next time I make it I may add some garlic with the ginger and garlic.

Hello, my name is Mich and I haven't bought a cookbook or magazine since Monday.
Hi Mich. Well done, is that step one?
-
The Stir Fried Sesame Chicken with Noodles was very nice. With 180g of noodles it made enough for at least 4. DH will have enough for lunch tomorrow. The chilli added a very subtle flavour, it was just perfect for us. Next time I make it I may add some garlic with the ginger and garlic.

Looks lovely cookie, cp loves noodles :)
-
Gorgeous Cookie.
Funnily enough that's what my DH asked me to cook after he looked through the book.
He loves noodle dishes whereas I am more a rice person but still like noodles too :)

All good, a few new mags to read while I'm away. The new bookcase is to house the books I already have. :-\
-
We had the Italian potatoes with our meal last night. They were different but we all liked them. I used verjuice instead of white wine as I didn't have any open.

When I picked up my copy of What's for Dinner from the ABC shop I knew I should have just headed out the door. They have some beautiful books and I could have really spent up big!! But I did get this one.... Inspirational on several levels.
The Edible Balcony by Indira Naidoo
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/04/a5yma6as.jpg)
It begins with the author describing in detail how she set up a productive food garden on her high rise balcony. (Accomplished over one weekend). She then sets out plants requirements season by season together with some 60 fabulously sounding recipes using some of the produce from her garden. A lovely book!!
-
I have The Edible Balcony too GF. Love it. Have cooked 2 recipes from it as well.
-
Which ones mcmich. Love the book but have not tried any recipes.
-
Tonight we had the Barbecued Chicken,Haloumi and green olive salad from the What's for Dinner book.
It was delicious I made it exactly as the book said.
-
Which ones mcmich. Love the book but have not tried any recipes.
The chicken pot pies and the patties that stuck a bit. She has a blog too - The saucy onion.
-
Thank you! Will try it.
-

. She has a blog too - The saucy onion.
Mcmich, thanks for the heads up re The Saucy Onion - really enjoying reading it! :D
-
Thankyou for telling us about the blog Mcmich. Will have a look!!! The next day after I brought my copy of Whats for Dinner I decided to go back and get copies for my daughters and sister.
-
Is there a cookbook-aholics anonymous? ;D
I think im too far gone even for that lol.. I foresee a personal library for cookbooks in my future lol
-
Whats for Dinner I decided to go back and get copies for my daughters and sister.
Now there's a thought!! I might do that, too. Anyone having difficulty in finding the What's for Dinner book, I'd be happy to pick one up for you. Just let me know. :D
-
Is there a cookbook-aholics anonymous? ;D
I think im too far gone even for that lol.. I foresee a personal library for cookbooks in my future lol
. . and I'd second that psychic forecast as being very, very accurate!! (can you have comparatives/superlatives for words like accurate?? ;D ;D)
Was just checking out prices of various books and a lot of you are probably aware of these sites, but for those who haven't seen them yet . . .
(and certainly not on the reading list for cookbook-aholics anonymous!!)
http://booko.com.au/
This gives you a list of booksellers and their prices and what, if anything, they charge for shipping. Amazing the differences!
This led me to www.bookworld.com.au
Registration is free, but be sure to sign up for their "citizenship" - this gives an extra discount of a few dollars! Shipping in Australia is free.
-
I was checking my abc shop yesterday to see if they had anymore of the books in ans saw Indira Naidoo's book. I'll go back next time and get it. Thanks for telling us about her blog too.
-
Know bookworld.. Collins books is still the cheapest online.. 14.95 plus postage comes to 21.95 i think.. I think i need to avoid the forum before dh either locks me up or divorces me lol
-
;D ;D . . . or both, Frozzie!! ;D ;D
But then you must remember, your family has some of the best restaurant quality food/meals around! I think you'fe safe!! ;) ;D
-
True plus he loves me and he did sign for better and worse lol.. Sometimes he pulls me past the book section or stores lol!! He never ever complained about buying the thx though haha
-
For all the stuff I buy, my DH has never once complained because he says that he benefits from all that I buy then make, so what's to complain about. I love my husband! ;D
-
That's lovely JulieO.
My DH never worries with what I buy either. Often if I can't decide between 2 things he will say 'buy both'. I have tried to temper my buying since we retired though. I now think twice before I go ahead and buy. I love my DH too.
-
My dh is insanely logical.. He knows how many books i have and how many recipes are in them and i know i have alot more than most lol.. He says i will never in my life time cook all of the recipes in them and he is right but as much as he may complain now and then he has never actually said i couldnt buy it just suggested i dont or perhaps wait for one reason or another.. Basically plays on my better judgement and makes me think sometimes rather than buy on i pulse....im a bit of a shopoholic so i very much need someone like dh to reign me in now and then... We are a great balance most of the time 😁 😜
-
My dhs complaint is where will you put it.
I might suggest he makes some shelfing for the upstairs spare room ;D. Well assemble some :)
-
That sounds a good idea Hally. Perhaps I should ask to put a second storey on. ;)
-
Yes fling up always givesyou more room :)
-
Our garage has sealed containers full of books as in my Hillary's house I had wall to wall shelving in the study and also in an upstairs room.
Only have 3 large bookcases in this house and one small one so lots more books stored in cupboards.
Thankfully kindle is helping resolve the book storage problem ;)
I still buy cookbooks and on kindle also but all other books only kindle.
-
I keep looking round the house where I could get DH to build me a lovely jarrah bookcase. But truly there is no where. Our theatre already has a wall of built in cupboards with doors on and that is full. DD's lounge has bookcases in as well.
-
Perhaps when DD builds and frees up another bedroom Cookie ....... ;D
-
Seems like we all have the same problem ;)
-

Hally if you have a guest/spare room the wardrobe is a good place for storage. I'm blessed with great storage (to make up for my doll's house size kitchen). My storage isn't quite what it use to be since my lovely step daughter moved into the granny flat and I had to give up the wardrobe space. :-\
-
First we have to cear it out, its full of boxes we havent unpacked yet from our move 3 years ago, p,us kitchen stuff!!.
Jukie Goodwins " our family table" meatballs were the best we have had, on my favs list :)
-

I'm SO glad there's someone else!! ;D One of these days . . . . . . . :-)) :-))
Jukie Goodwins " our family table" meatballs were the best we have had, on my favs list :)
Thanks for the recommendation, Hally - have the book and will try these soon! :D
-
I made 27 quite large ones, I cooked them in the oven & ate 3 straight from the oven, delicious :)
-
Perhaps when DD builds and frees up another bedroom Cookie ....... ;D
Yes Judy I will expand then. Probably into her house too. Some of the cookbooks are hers. DH keeps telling her he needs the space for his cars so she needs to build. She wants to pay cash and have some left over. She is a cheap house sitter.
-
Yes, you will miss her in more ways than one Cookie.

Good she wants to pay cash and has the means to do that - much better than being in debt if can do it and with your help she can.
Great to have a house sitter too. Mum just came and looked after Harry Hound for us while we were away. She can't have him at her place any more since moving into the retirement village. She said it was like a holiday for her too though. I made her meals, bought her all the latest magazines and she had fun walking Harry.
-
What a lovely Mum you have Michele. It would have been a change from the retirement village and that's what they say - a change is as good as a holiday.
-
I do have the best mum JD. The retirement village is whizz bang though. Her 2 bedroom unit is lovely and mum has bus and shopping trips every day. She loves it, although as a very active 76yr old enjoys a change.
-
That sounds a wonderful situation for your Mum, Mcmich,.. And how good for Harry to be happy and relaxed in his own surroundings..:)
-
I'm very blessed to have such a wonderful mum. Harry loves it when grandma comes to visit - he gets spoiled.
Pic of DS - Dano, mum - Gwen and me.
-
Lovely family photo Michelle.
-
Gorgeous photo Mich.

Lovely photo Michele and handsome DS ;D
-
Thanks guys. :D
-
Can I ask where does DS's name come from? Love it :)
-
Daniel - His late dad and I called him Dano after the 70s show Hawaii 5 O. The end line was always "Book him Dano"
-
Ok I get it now. :D
Very nice looking young man Michele :)
-
Lovely photo of you all Mcmich :)
Marie
-
Mich, lovely looking son :)
-
What a lovely photo Michele, I agree, one fine looking son you have there.
-
Thankyou for all the lovely comments. Will have to show DS next time he is up. :D
-
Will he be embarrassed? It is a lovely photo Michele. My Mum and I were great friends too. In fact she, DD and I were lethal when we went shopping. The time she died, DD had popped out to do some essential shopping for me ( I had been living at the hospital) and DD had a funny sort of turn at the exact time. I don't believe in those sort of things, but it was odd.
-
He will pretend to be embarassed Cookie but will probably love it. :D
My mum, daughter and I can do some damage when we go shopping too.
-
I have my book, a big thank you to MF :) :-*
Cant wait to look through it & make something :)
H :)
-
And a big thanks to Cookie who found the bargain in the first place ;D
I made the Spanish chicken with lemon rice and peas. A few tweaks due to what I had in pantry and fridge and we both enjoyed it :D
-
Yes, thankyou Cookie.
That's good to know MF, I haven't cooked anything out of it yet.
-
I started browsing the book late last night but only got to page 60 - some great cheap pasta dishes in the book. I like what I've seen so far - recipes that haven't got an ingredient list as long as your arm really appeal to me. I'd like to add my thanks to Cookie to for letting us all know about this book and for the lovely Jeninwa for sending me a copy.
(http://www.commenthaven.com/graphics/thanks/thankyou.gif) (http://www.commenthaven.com/)
-
It's great when you find a cheap cookbook that is good and has lots of good recipes in.
MF will try that one.
-
Does anyone have the book "The Baking Bible"? It's a Parragon book.
I do now, just won it on ebay for $8.60 - $13.60 with postage.
-
OzHarvest cookbook arrived yesterday. I've only had a quick look through it but am very impressed with what I have seen so far and there are several recipes I want to try.
-
I posted my Xmas books on this thread a couple of weeks ago but somehow it got lost and I've been meaning to come back on ever since. My SS sent me Vailli Little's "5 nights a week" - it has loads of really tempting looking recipes, but I haven't had a chance to try any yet. My DH got Yoke's "Wild Sourdough" for me and, following Mich's post I sent off for the two Revive Cafe cookbooks, which also look tempting, so I now have four new recipe books to keep me quiet for the next while.
-
They sound great. I have both of Yoke's books.
-
Making sticky pork belly from Whats for dinner.
:)
-
I'll look forward to hearing what it was like Hally. Last night we had the Pan Fried Chicken with lemon and crisp Prosciutto. It was lovely. I forgot to take a photo
. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/15/yjavamug.jpg)
This is the Chickpea and Vegetable casserole we had the other night. I reduced the chilli in it and didn't have any Harissa paste. It was lovely. We also loved it cold the next day as a sort of salad.
-
That looks delicious cookie :)
-
It looks great! Yum!
-
Oh Cookie, that looks delicious!
-
Got .Jerusalem! By Yotam Ottolenghi's for Xmas and have made a few recipes from it. All pretty good. My fish cakes are better. !!!!
I like it because , although the list of ingredients is fairly long, the recipes are simple. I have made, Baby Spinach salad with dates and Almonds, P 30, Non TMX , but excellent.
Salmon steaks in Chraimeh sauce, P 234 ( excellent ) Converted to TMX and will post. Fish and Caper Kababs P 221. Won't make again.
Tonight, Braised Quail with apricots, currants and Tamarind. I am using Chicken marylands for this.
-
Oh yummy Chookie. I downloaded the book from kindle store yesterday after seeing your salmon dish photo.
$18 dollars on kindle store. I keep my kindle cookbooks on iPad and love it ;D
-
I have just posted the recipe, but then you don't need it. LOL
-
I have the recipe but the TMX conversion is great as I am not that good at converting ;)
Thanks Chookie ;D
-
MF, my pleasure.
-
Ahhhh, another thread I've just discovered :P
I really need to explore more, don't I!
I was wondering what the reference to "what's for dinner" was....so what's the verdict on this book?
-
You probably need it maddy :D
-
I agree. I have made heaps of things from it and we have enjoyed them all. They are generally quick, easy and tasty. Apart from that it is only $10.
-
You probably need it maddy :D
Sold :)
I have a copy at the local ABC waiting for me :D
-
I haven't made anything from "what's for dinner" yet but I had a really good look through yesterday and it looks fantastic! Can't wait to try some new recipes, you won't be disappointed Maddy ;D
-
You probably need it maddy :D
Sold :)
I have a copy at the local ABC waiting for me :D
Didn't have to twist your arm too hard Maddy. ;D
-
Gotcha ;D I haven't made anything from the book yet but I love looking through it - it gives me as much pleasure as actually making something. So many books, so many recipes here and on people's blogs and then all the non-TMX books as well. Ah well, it's a cheap addiction and I am not alone - it keeps us happy.
-
. Ah well, it's a cheap addiction
;D ;D It's getting not to be. Judy!! ;D ;D
-
Is what's for dinner a TM book?
-
No, the picture of it is on page 5 of this thread CP.
-
It's very easy to do the bits in the tmx CP. the recipes are easy too.
-
I must cook something out of it. :)
-
Me too Mcmich
-
This is the Corned Beef Hash from OzHarvest, page 51 and 1/2 quantity.
I chopped (separately) 175g corned beef, shallots, parsley, parmesan in the TMX, microwaved the potatoes and mashed them roughly with a fork then just mixed everything together. Squeezed small amounts firmly then patted them out to small, thin patties (8), refrigerated 15 minutes then cooked them in a mix of oil & butter. They are very fragile with nothing in the recipe to bind them together but they were really tasty and I loved all the little bits and pieces which crisped up in the pan when some pieces broke away.
-
I was trying to slow down on the cookbook purchases but somebody recently mentioned the Revive Cafe cookbooks, which I am now the proud owner of-LOL!
Made this wonderful lentil and roast beetroot salad for last night. The cheese is not in the recipe but an addition of mine. Was really nice and I'm looking forward to making probably most of the recipes. All vegetarian but very interesting. Will probably switch some of the tofu recipes with prawns or seafood.
-
Same thing happened to me Jude - someone mentioned those books and yesterday both books appeared in my PO Box!
I've only had a quick look, but they look great. Lots of interesting recipes.
Your salad looks wonderful.
I like your idea of switching the tofu for prawns or seafood, I think I will do that too :)
-
That looks delicious and so colourful. How could you not enjoy it?
-
Is there anywhere to buy second hand TMX cookbooks?
-
Sometimes the girls on here will sell books they don't use Lucy - much cheaper than if you find any on eBay ;)
-
What books are you looking for LucyW?
-
I loaned my two Revive cookbooks to my friend last weekend and she made a recipe our of them each night since and has now ordered her own ... however, she still hasn't given mine back ... she loves them and doesn't want to let go of them until hers arrive! I would especially recommend these books to vegetarians and vegans.
-
What books are you looking for LucyW?
Just anything to get me started I guess. Wouldn't mind checking out the Cyndi O'meara one. I am a complete newbie! :)
-
I've ordered the Revive books too! They must wonder what's going on with all the sudden interest.
-
Love the revive books. This is the first time I have made three recipes in one week from one author. From book 1 - Made Balsamic lentil and roasted beetroot salad, and kidney bean stir fry. Today made Tarka Dahl from the second book. All recipes great. Added tmx veg stock and TMX curry powder to the Tarka Dahl and some silverbeet and beans instead of peas as we have those in the veg patch. Highly recommend the books.
-

If the Cyndi O'Meara book is the little green one called Healthy Cooking with Cyndi O'Meara, then you are welcome to my copy. I also have Wholesome Cooking with the Thermomix, by Jude Blereau, Gluten Free, Wheat Free Cooking with Thermomix, Rawlicious and Thermomix Winter Warmers. They are all small, 16 - 17 pages and a bit chewed by silverfish, but if you want them, they're yours.

I've just received my copy of the Revive cookbook. It looks great. The step-by-step section at the back is really innovative. The recipes all look so good, I don't know where to start. :D

If you like the revive cafι cookbooks Cuilidh then I think you would enjoy Simple, Tasty, Good. The recipes are easy with ingredients that are readily available. Like the revive books this is also vegan. This book is Australian too which I like.
-
I just made the zucchini patties from the Revive Book 1.. They were very tasty. The recipe called for 3 zucchinis, but I just used one. I will definitely make them again
-
Good to hear. I have not had a recipe we didn't like from his books. The seed slaw is extremely good! Not sure which book it is in.
-
Thanks, I'll have to look it up.
-
Well, I have to say, after cooking three different recipes from Jamie Oliver's 15 minute cookbook, the book is a winner. I really did not like the previous one but the latest book has nutritious but tasty recipes which are quite different to the run of the mill ones. And he manages to include a lot of herbs, vegetables and protein in every meal. I am looking forward to trying a few more in the coming days.
-
DD received that for Christmas. Ill have to sneak a look at it when she's not around.
-
Love the sound of the Revive Cafe books must try to source one
-
The revive cafι books do sound good ..
-
I am looking for it Frozzie............ Temptation is testing me and winning ;D

Thanks just found it on Amazon but will look at their website :)
If you have a local Seventh Day Adventist Church that has a book store attached you will be able to purchase a copy from there.
They also have an online book shop.
-
Is it a seventh day adventist cookbook mcmich? Or just in Line with their diθtary guidelines??
-
The couple are adventist's and have a cafe in New Zealand - Like the rainbow cookbook - the author is an Adventist and use to be a demonstrator here in Lake Macquarie.
-
Ok thats interesting..i didnt know that or that the rainbow books were as well... We had a 'passage' in the adventist church when i was little (long story) so im quite aware of their dietary beliefs.. Had friends who were very extreme...Interesting to know ... Love the rainbow books though and thθse ones sound good.. They certainly give alternatives salads condiments etc....
-
I made my first recipe from 'What's for Dinner' today - lemon & chilli chicken skewers page 104. Used 1/2 the quantity of dried chilli but would use fresh chillies next time and I would also cut the chicken thighs bigger than 2cms next time as well. Very nice though, had quite a bite for us whimps even with 1/2 the chilli flakes.
-
The skewers look so delicious - I really must cook something out of this book. :-\
-
4 minutes each side in the weberQ Michele - a quick lunch.
-
They look lovely Judy. I have made quite a bit from this book and have enjoyed everything.
-
Oh jd is that the michele curtis book?? Ive been looking for that everywhere and nobody has it... Ever since cookie and the others found it for $10 at the abc shop.. I can order it but at $39 :(. I have never seen a copy of it in a shop though not up,here and it looked quite good
-
That's the one Kim. It has some great recipes that I am yet to try. We all purchased at ABC shops.
-
Ill have to source abc shops ??
-
Try them online Kim - this was back just after Christmas that they were on sale for $10.00.
If you can't find it at $10.00, I bought 3 copies, 1 for my friend, 1 for me and 1 because they were such good value and put away for a gift. Happy to pass it on to you. :D
-
I will have a look michelle and let you know but if not would certainly be interested in buying your 'spare' copy off you... 😁😁😁😁 is it just abc.com.au??
-
Don't bother Kim just PM me your address and think of it as a house warming present. :-*
-
Your too kind :)
-
Indeed she is - what a lovely gesture Michele :-* :-*
-
:-* :-* :-*
-
Bought an extra copy on a whim - glad to lighten my load. :D
-
Its very very sweet of you.. Thank you thank you as I have been looking at this book for a while 😘😘😊😊
-
You will love it Kim.
So far from this book I have made:
Spaghetti with ricotta, prosciutto and pesto page 041. We loved it. Had Parmesan on top.
Stir fried sesame chicken with noodles. Loved it. I cooked the noodles in the thermothingy. Page 082
Chicken and haloumi sausages. Loved them. Page 114
Pan fried chicken with lemon and crisp prosciutto. Lovely. Page 152.
Thai red beef and bom choc curry. Delicious. Page 208.
Chickpea and vegetable casserole. Loved it. I didn't have Harissa paste so didn't use it. Page 228.
Barbecued chicken, haloumi and green olive salad. This was beautiful. Page 240.
Italian potatoes. Great. Page 283.
Spanish Chicken and Chorizo Braise Page 204
I'll add to this as I go.
-
Oh thx cookie .. Sounds divine.. :).
-
Cookie, I really shouldn't, but after reading your post those dishes sound delicious. Now to find the abc shop. LOL
Marie
-

Hi guys,
Love this new thread.
Actually I am on a diet called Paleo, I would love to share it with you guys. It's so easy to do and the foods used for the recipes are fairly basic plus the best part of it all is that I am living healthier now.
-
We have a thread on Paleo Daniel - have you seen it?
http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=12252.0

Martha Stewart has a new book out Meatless. Just wondering if anyone has had a look at it?
-
I've never had any of her books. What are they like?
-
Neither have I and I really don't need another vegetarian cookbook.
Wondering if anyone could recommend a good bread cookbook? I know there are plenty of good recipes here but I don't have a bread cookbook. Pre Thermomix I only did bread in the bread maker.
-
I find vegetarian cookbooks written by meat eaters are usually useless. A bit like me writing a book on beef - I know about it, but don't really get it.
-
One of the books that I received for Christmas is Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall's River Cottage Veg Everyday.
Judy and Katie have converted a couple of his recipes. These are the ones we've had from the book and my comments.
Chard ( I used spinach) and new potato curry. This was lovely.
Spinach, Penne and Cheese Spouffle. Yum yum.
Lettuce ( I used spinach), spring onion and cheese tart. Lovely.
Courgette and rice fill pie. Great.
Chilli, cheese and rosemary polenta with tomato sauce. Very nice. These bake best in the oven.
This is the Chard and potato curry. I served it with rice.

This is the Spouffle

Where to start? :D :D
-
I actually don't have that Mary Berry cookbook Amy.Must be a first for me :D :D :D :D
-
Oh thats a shame CC, I would have loved to hear your review of it. I guess I will have to do the hard research for myself ;D ;D ;D
-
Where to start Amy? Knowing you, probably Reader's Digest Great Recipes for Good Health ;D That's not a bad thing ;)
-
You know me too well Judy ;D ;D
-
Congratulations Amy. You are in foodie heaven ;D
-
Wow, Amy. How good is that. I like Delia, reliable recipes. Have fun.
-
Have fun Amy :)
-
Enjoy Amy :)
-
I also have that Mary Berry one. CC , may be an Aussie thing.
-
From what I have heard and read Mary Berry books are good. I think I will have to see about a couple or more.
-
Oh lucky you Amy! I would love to be given 15 cookbooks too!! :D
-

Naughty Cookie. ;D
-
;D ;D
-
Amy how are the cookbooks.
-
Lol cookie ..
-
I was given a wonderful cookbook for my birthday. It is "the Great British Bake Off"
I was reading a baking magazine I had bought online and it had quite a few recipes from this book so I can't wait to get started. Just need to shake this hay fever.
-
I got my hands on the new EDC, and I like it ;D
-
I should be getting my new EDC book next Thursday, excited (although not sure why I'm excited about a reprint of a book I already have - guess that's the cookbook addiction kicking in!).
I love the Great British Bake Off Cookie and I have the book also. My DH and I are currently enjoying the second season of The Great British Bake Off on Foxtel. My DH loves it, says it currently his favourite show ;D
(I don't think he's baked a cake or baked anything for that matter in his life!)
-
We don't have foxtel, probably lucky or I would be watching too many cooking things.
I am hanging out to give a few things a try. I see you can also access recipes online using a word from the book. Very cunning.
-
Sounds a good book Cookie ;D
Marie
-
I'll watch the show tonight Katie, thanks for the heads up.
-
love cook books, cooking shows, my DD puts foxtell straight onto food for me.. :)
oops, edited

I am tempted to get it too Katie, but apparently existing owners can only order it till the end of May!?
Is love to hear your thoughts on it... My consultant said there are 4 new recipes, some omissions, serving sizes and nutritional values. It does "look" nice. My real question though is if they have 'tweaked' many recipes... Then I might consider buying it.
-
Hi Jamberie! My consultant dropped it in to me at work yesterday. We were out until late last night, so I haven't really looked at it yet. My first thought is it looks a lot nicer than the old EDC, as it looks more like a "normal" cookbook. The spiral binding, whilst ugly, meant the old EDC would sit open and was easy to use. I'm not sure this new book will sit flat whilst opened, which really annoys me with cookbooks.
I'm not sure if it's only available until the end of May for existing owners. Maybe a question for a consultant?
I plan on having a better look over the weekend and seeing if I can see what recipes are new and which ones have been tweaked. I'll get back to you with my thoughts...
I'll also drop it down to Judy one day soon and she can have a look and comment also.
-
love cook books, cooking shoes, my DD puts foxtell straight onto food for me.. :)
Please don't cook too many shoes Obbie! ;) :)
-
;D ;D ;D
-
I type too fast, cooking shows, on foxtell.

That would be great Katie!
-
I've had a bit of a look at the new EDC and I like it. It's definitely a lot nicer than the old EDC. I compared a few recipes and they seem to have small tweaks - like less oil, less or more sugar, or different cooking times and speeds.
My consultant mentioned one change is rice is now cooked at speed 2 and not speed 4.
I've handed the book over to Judy, who I'm sure will give a more detailed and helpful review, once she has had a chance to look at it.
-
Here's a picture of the new EDC. It measures 22cm x 25 cm, has 207 pages and 40 odd photos. I think it looks great but will have a good look at it as I browse through it looking at what changes have been made. I do like it more than the original and will probably buy one for myself and my DD if the recipes have been revamped and a lot more added as has been suggested. Katie is going to scan the index for us so when she does that, we can start a new EDC review list and link it to the one we already have.
-
Well I've just spent 3 hours on Katie's new EDC and was very impressed with it. Nice to see chopping times and speeds have been reduced, lots of new recipes and some nice pictures. The summary table for basic functions has a lot of changes and I will list these below as I feel we all have a right to know the correct speeds. The book won't fall apart now like the spiral bound one did. Lucky people who will be receiving this edition with their delivery but there are many thousands of us with the old one and I wonder how many will bother replacing it. I have to have it and would use it a lot more than the old one - I just hope the recipes have all been tweaked enough that they will now work perfectly.
Mixing cakes - dependent on quantity and density of batter ingredients 5-20 seconds/speed 5-6.
Grating chocolate 10 sec/ speed 9.
Chopping onion (halved) 3 sec/speed 7 (I still prefer 2 sec/speed 5)
Chopping hard vegies roughly chopped - 3 sec/speed 5.
Chopping soft vegies roughly chopped - 3 sec/speed 4.
Dry roasting spices 3-5 mins/varoma/speed 1 depending on quantity. Allow to cool before milling.
Grating dry bread 3-4 cm cubes (2 cm pieces for stale bread) 300g max - 10 sec/speed 6.
Grating hard cheeses (Parmesan, cheddar) 150g max 3-4 cm cubes - 10 sec/speed 9.
Grating soft cheeses (Jarlsberg, feta) 250g max 3-4 cm cubes - 4 sec/speed 4.
Ice crushing 400g max loose cubes - 5 sec/speed 7-10 gradually increasing from speed 7 - 10. Scrape down sides and repeat if necessary.
Kneading standard dough 600g flour max - 2 mins (we usually do 4 mins on the forum)
Kneading wet, sticky dough 750g flour max - 3 mins
Heat milk - on 80 degrees/speed 3.
Milling raw or white sugar to castor sugar, 250g max - 2 sec/speed 9
Nuts to nut meal - 5-10 sec/speed 7.
Spices - 1 min/speed 9.
Grains, legumes - 1-2 mins/speed
Sauteeing chopped onions, herbs, bacon & garlic - 3 mins/varoma/speed 1.
Mincing meat, fish, poultry - cut into 3-5 cm pieces, slightly frozen 500g max - 10 sec/ speed 7 for a fine consistency or press briefly 3-6 times/1sec/turbo for a chunkier consistency.
Anything not listed remains the same as the original chart.
-
A very positive review of the new EDC Judy. ;) ;D
-
Our caped crusader has been busy again.
Thank you superstar :-*
-
Wow Judy, that's an amazing review - much more comprehensive than my "yeah, it's nice"!!
I knew you were the right person to review the book.
Thanks for all your hard work :D
-
Well done Judy. I didn't realise there was an updated version out, I will be interested to hear some reviews of the recipes. Do we know yet if we can buy it through head office and if so how much it will cost?
-
Its $40 through a consultant Wonder
-
Has the pumpkin soup been improved?
-
Hally, I didn't compare each recipe but the pumpkin soup chopping times have been changed and there are actual measurements of both the butter and cream (20g butter, 30g cream) instead of using tablespoon measurements - I can't see how that will make any difference to the recipe at the end though.
-
Just noticed on FB that Thermofun did a review as well. I know there's many who don't use facebook so I can post here if you'd like. Don't want to undermine Judy's thorough review though !
-
We all have different opinions so it would be good to hear someone else's Debbie. Is Thermofun a consultant?
-
Will not give a comprehensive review like Judy, but have had a quick look and am very impressed. I looked at the basic bread recipe first, As the first edition one was a shocker. This one will be good to get people going. It seems that HO have taken notice of the feed back that was provided for the bread. If Forum members can remember what changes they suggested, we cold check. I love the photos, but need to spend more time with it.
-
Yes Judy, I think she is a consultant.
Here tis anyway, I can remove if need be.
OK everyone - I'm getting lots of personal messages asking about the new EDC. So to answer you all in one post this should hopefully cover all your questions! :)
Q: Are there many differences between the old and new EDC?
A: Yes quite a few. Most of the same recipes but with a few tweaks to those and a number of new recipes too. It really is a lovely book.
pages can be wiped down
book opens flat
larger format
new photos
more info at the front
index by ingredient for easier menu planning
clearer recipe layout and more info eg if gluten-free / vegetarian / freezeable / Varoma, portion size, prep and cooking time, nutritional info
And a list of the new recipes (this is a bit of a compilation so if you notice any are missing, let me know):
Apple pie
Aussie Meat Pies
Bircher Muesli
CADA (fresh muesli)
Caramelised Balsamic Reduction
Chicken and Meat Stock Concentrates
Citrus Salt
Fruit Loaf
Green smoothie
Hash Browns
Herb and Garlic Pull-Apart
Omelette
Pavlova
Peach and Raspberry Crumble
Poached Eggs
Steamed Ginger Puddings
Steamed Lemon Cheesecake
Sweet Shortcrust Pastry
New baby food section
-
I can add a few more new recipes to that list
Bιarnaise sauce
Rosemary & eschalot gravy
Honey, soy & mustard marinade
Onion Jam
Royal icing
Cream cheese frosting
Chocolate frosting
Buttercream icing
Soft butter rolls
Lamingtons
Bread & butter pudding
-
Are there more photos than the old edition?
-
Hard to tell Michele as some are grouped together on one page in each new section in the old book. The photos are definitely better in the new book though. I would have liked less photos of soups and more of main meals and desserts though ;)
I've ordered 4 copies and they will be coming in a week or so.
-
Thanks Judy - don't know whether to get a copy or not? I love pictures :D
-
Sorry - simply can't resist - ordered mine too . . ;D
-
The new book certainly sounds nice. I might wait until a couple of recipes have been revued and decide if I need one then.
-
I probably won't as none of the new recipes are anything I can't find here at the forum :)
Excellent for new purchasers of TMX though.
-
I agree with Mich :) I don't think I'll be ordering a new one either. I'm glad it was published though ;)
-
Tenina mentioned on her facebook site that a couple of the new recipes are hers. ??? ??? ??? No credit given she said.
-
Well that's just wrong >:(
-
I like the new book, especially the photos and page layout. Yesterday I sat down and compared the old recipes that I use, 8 in total. They are the same. I like the calorie count on the recipes. I did notice some of Tenina's. When I have time , I will test all the bread recipes, as written. Then if there are any comments we will know how to help. Have a feeling that the 5 seed bread may need a little more yeast.
-
Chookie that is kind of you.
-
Does anyone have Curtis Stone's "What's For Dinner?" and if so what do you think of it?
-
I do Mich.
I haven't had it long and haven't cooked anything from it as yet. It looks nice though and I've tagged quite a few recipes to make.
Any particular recipe you want, I could email it to you?
I thought you were getting rid of all your cookbooks ;D
-
Yes, Katie, am trying to reduce the load. Love Curtis and thought it might be a good buy?
Yep, way too many cookbooks. Will shelve this one. :(
-
I love Curtis too!
It's a really nice book, I say buy it!
-
Oohh Katie -now I'm torn.
-
C'mon, Mich!! You know you want to . . . . . !! ;D ;D ;D
-
Katie gave me Save with Jamie recently and today I made his Peperonata sauce, in the Thermomix of course.
I searched to see if there was a recipe for this sauce on the forum but could only find 2 references to it, one from Uni at the bottom of this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=320.msg292469#msg292469) page and Riv Mum mentioned she had posted one on her blog. (http://thermotalk.webs.com/apps/blog/entries/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query=peperonata)
Jamie's looks entirely different to Uni's and Riv Mum's has different quantities & cooked differently so I might post my conversion. I do like Riv Mum's addition of sugar though so would add some if I was to make this recipe again.
-
DD bought this, but I haven't had a look at it yet. I must do so.
-
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/05/3y9uhaqa.jpg)
Bought this at Readings in Melbourne. $60. Seems expensive but well presented with most pages containing recipe and photo. Each recipe is introduces with a short message about the recipe. The recipes are mostly uncomplicated and very well set out.
I love this book and will probably use it a lot although most recipes not suited to conversion to TMX. Many recipes do have sauces or dressings that could be made in TMX.
I have attended 3 classes with Rodney and love his philosophy of using what you grow or purchasing locally. The Tasmanian climate is similar to ours so I find the recipes particularly relevant .
This book would make a very nice gift.
-
Love your review Chookie, I know I shouldn't have but I did order this yesterday ;D My Christmas present to myself ;) :D
-
Great Emme, you will love it. I did the same. Ha!!! I have done 3 classes and loved everyone of them. I have posted a bread recipe that I adapted from the last class. I read right through the book and there was only one recipe that I wasn't interested in. Let me know what you think.
-
Thanks for the review Bess. Have also been thinking about buying this one but haven't been into the city to look at it. Might also be a Chrissy present for myself!!
-
It is very important to buy yourself a Christmas present. I have always worked with this theory. My DH leaves his shopping until 4 pm Christmas Eve. This way I know I will receive something. What makes me cross is that he always gets exactly what he wanted with no trouble. ;) ;D ;D
Thanks for the review Chookie. It does sound really nice. I'm off to the kitchen shop today and I am sure I'll find a nice gift for me.
-
Great review Chookie.
Booktopia have it for $44.95 (and they have a free shipping code at the moment). I will probably buy it before the days over!
I saw on Facebook that "In The Mix 2" has been released by HO.
-
Not sure how I feel about 'In the Mix 2.'
-
Not sure how I feel about 'In the Mix 2.'
I know how I feel about it.
-
Have you seen it Chookie? If so what do you think?
-
No Trudy, but if it is like the first one, I am not interested. Like many other people I would rather use the Forum or convert my own.
-
I sold mine on Ebay and bought For Food Sake instead lol. Not very suitable for families I thought.
-
I don't particularly like In the Mix either so not interested in the second one at all.
-
I also have the first one and have never used it. Don't think I will get this one.
-
In the Mix 2 can be brought from Thermomix website for $60, or as a pk with books 1&2 for $105.
I don't have either but have seen book 1 and don't think I'll bother either. :-\
-
I have ordered the new book and am interested to see what it's like, I have an open mind about it.
I have the first book and even though it's a lovely book, I haven't cooked anything from it. But, I'll admit I have quite a lot of books that I've never actually cooked from. I just love cookbooks!
-
It looks as if it is going to be up to you then Katie to review this book, you may be able to help others decide whether they want it or not ;)
-
I'm not going to buy it either. The first one didn't appeal to me either. Bit fancy smancy for me. Thought I was the odd one out. Glad others feel the same.
-
Im the same, love to look at it but havent used it. Not like Tenina's and Alice.
Love to have more feedback on the chocolate book that is becoming avail over here.
-
It is not everyday meals but I have found a few good recipes from In The Mix. I absolutely love the muesli slice, and use her recipe for making pavlova. I have also made the mojito cheesecake which is really good. Whilst I don't use it everyday, I have used it enough to justify buying it
-
That's good to hear Snappy... I'm kind of interested. ...I really like the spaghetti Bolognaise from In The Mix. Again not an everyday meal but the book doesn't promote itself to be an everyday book so I think they can get away with it :)
-
I also really like the In the Mix cookbook 1.
I think it is quite clever as many of the recipes have 2 or 3 parts which can be made separately for every day or put together for something more special.
I often make the little steamed puddings. they are really easy and work well. They are now a family favourite.
It is worth looking at the separate parts of each dish and use accordingly.
I look forward to In the Mix 2. I have hinted for it for Christmas.
Here's hoping!
-
I haven't done the steamed puddings - will have to try!
-
It is good to hear everyone's opinions. That is what I like about this Forum.
-
I'm obviously Robinson Crusoe when it comes to In The Mix. Some of the family friendly meals I've made out of it are The Sour Orange Curry, made with chicken not prawns - Chicken Tagine - Beef Stir fry - onion Jam Flan (but used Tenina's onion jam as I already had it made up). I've also made the olive bread which turned out really well unlike a lot of my other bread.
What was a little more time consuming but well worth the effort was the deconstructed lemon meringue pie - it's on pg 171.
Having said all that there are plenty of recipes for all the above on the forum and it is an expensive book - I was blessed with this book as a gift from a lovely friend. :)
-
Received this book recently and it's a little beauty. My list of 'to do' recipes is very long, not too many in the whole book that don't appeal to me and heaps that can be converted for the Thermomix.
-
That looks nice Judy. Is it Australian? I must look out for it and have a look.
-
I think it's English cookie and what I love about it is that it isn't full of vegetarian recipes, it's mainly a book of recipes using vegetables - a big difference. Photos of every recipe too, another plus.
-
Will check it out tomorrow, thanks.
-
I wasn't sure where to put the photo of my Christmas Cookbooks. I decided here was possibly as good as anywhere.
The Bread and Butter Project by Bourke Street Bakery is a story as well as having lots of recipes. Mainly sourdough that I can't wait to try. The story is how one half of the Bourke St Bakery team was invited to Burma to help some village women learn to bake artisan style bread for hotels and cakes. On his return to Australia he dreamt of doing something similar here with people. It is a tiny bit similar to Jamie Oliver's idea but with bread. He managed to get grants and monetary gifts and gives people a 12 month 'lesson.
-
Love The Bourke St Bakery. :D
-
Great selection of books Cookie.
-
Great cookbooks cookie. Lots of good summer reading there. Think you'll need some post-it notes too!
-
Two of the cookbooks I received for Christmas. I love The Bits on Sticks Book. I will be trying out the basil and garlic veg sticks at our BBQ on Australia Day. :D
-
What is on the menu mcmich? I love finding out what people are cooking since it gives me ideas for future parties.
-
What is on the menu mcmich? I love finding out what people are cooking since it gives me ideas for future parties.
Likewise, Mich!! I wish I were half as organised as you are!!
-
Courton, I'm cooking for approx. 25 guests that will come and go as it a long weekend and other commitments.
Starters - mini meat pies, baked camembert, Tenina's camembert encroute, 2 dips with TMX made crackers, meatballs and dipping sauce, JD's caramelised onion, fetta and mushroom tarts, bread patties (an 80's recipe of Bernard King).
Mains - Marinated Chicken fillets, homemade skinless sausages, quiche & vegie burgers (for the vegetarians), Bacon and egg pie (DH's specialty).
Sides - potato bake, garden salad, wombok salad ( the one off changs noodle pkt), pasta salad, zucchini slice, stuffed capsicums and damper.
Dessert - pavlova, lamingtons, fruit platter and an Aussie themed birthday cake (not quite finalised) for my brother and son that have birthdays a day or 2 around the same time).
Drinks - water with lemon and lime slices, punch (I have drink dispensers for those), iced tea in the T2 jug, beer, wine and soft drink.
-
Wow! Very impressive!
-
And now I have added the veg sticks as well. DH is very helpful which makes a big difference. I have posted some pics of the finger food I have already made and frozen and will post pics of the food on the day. I too, love seeing photos and menus. :D
-
Wow! Very impressive!
Thanks but not so big a deal. Some tried and often used recipes in the menu. :)
-
You'll need lots of fridge space for that food on the day Michele, I find that's always the biggest problem. Great menu, well done and I hope you have a wonderful day with family and friends.
-
Yes, will have the spare fridge going in the granny flat (small) and our fridge which is just a basic 400L fridge/freezer. The drinks will be in a tub on ice.
Are there any suggestions to help the day run smoothly?
-
Stay calm ;D
I'm sure you will be in total control with the help of your DH. Guest will always help out if asked I find.
-
Thanks JD, the finger food is pretty much done and I have kids coming out of the woodwork - they will only be too happy to help serve and pass around :D
-
Sounds as though it'll be a fantastic day, Mich! Family and friends and great food: can't ask any more than that!!! Hope you have a wonderful time!!
-
Thanks GF - a nice day all round ;D
-
Great menu mich. I'm sure the day will run smoothly. Just don't forget to have a glass of bubbles. That makes everything better always 😉
-
Hope everything runs smoothly Mich I am sure your guests will love your cooking :)
-
Relax and enjoy the company and lovely food Mich.
-
Lucky friends you have Michele. Great food and great company. Enjoy.
Just don't forget to have a glass of bubbles. That makes everything better always 😉
Excellent advice Kimmyh ;D
-
I can recommend My Petite Kitchen Cookbook by Eleanor Ozich. I bought this a few months ago and this cookbook has the been the most used cookbook I have had for years.
Have made over a dozen of the recipes and love her flavour combinations. It is a recipe book of simple whole food recipes - recipes are gluten free, dairy free, suitable for vegetarians or vegans or a combination of these dietary needs. Also omnivore recipes.
Eleanor is a NZ blogger with the Petite Kitchen blog.
-
Thanks. Another cookbook to have a really good look at.
-
Does anyone have the Marie Clare "kitchen" cookbook?
I think I may have given it to charity and have misplaced my favorite recipe from the book...I think it was onion relish...or maybe it was tomato relish. ... if someone has it and could share the recipe with me, I'd be very grateful! My hamburgers are not quite the same without it!
-
Sorry Jam not I. But at long last my consultant says Quirky Jo's book is available again, i should have a copy "early" next week.
-
Sorry. Would you be able to look at it in a library?
-
I'm pretty sure I had that book too at some stage. I have a good recipe that I got off my nana about 30 years ago for tomato relish using 12 large tomatoes if you want it.

Do you still need the tomato relish recipe Jamberie? I've picked up 2 Marie Claire books today from the library and Kitchen was one of them so if you still need it I can pm it to you. :D
-
OMG Yes Please JulieO!
I'll then be able to have a go at converting it to TMX for everyone...
I can't remember if it was tomato relish or onion relish...I'm sure you'll know it when you see it. The book is broken up into sections and it is one of the minor recipes where there are four (I think) recipes to a double page. I have a feeling the relish might be on the inside of the left page but I can't remember...It really is a good book, there are a lot of worthwhile recipes in it, I'd love to hear what you think of it :)
-
Will pm to you now Jam. Am busily typing up recipes out of one of the books now actually. Some lovely recipes in there that's for sure, I can then return them back to the library. Hope the recipe is the one you are after. ;D
-
Gratefully received :)
I'll post the conversion asap
-
I just caved and bought both of the Wholefood Simply cookbooks.....not officially TMX, but her recipes are ideally suited to TMX. Can't wait for them to arrive :)
FYI https://www.wholefoodsimply.com/shop/
-
I will be keen to find out what they are like. I have often looked at them.
-
I have the first book Jamberie and it's great. You'll love it.
-
I have them both - made a couple of recipes which were easy to do in TMX but as I have a few new recipe books I keep jumping around as there is too many things to try 😉
