I was sent this a few days ago by email... has anyone tried this?
Many professionals in restaurants and eateries are using or consuming the entire lemon and nothing is wasted.
How can you use the whole lemon without waste?
Simple.. place the washed lemon in the freezer section of your refrigerator. Once the lemon is frozen, get your grater, and shred the whole lemon (no need to peel it) and sprinkle it on top of your foods.
Sprinkle it to your vegetable salad, ice cream, soup, cereals, noodles, spaghetti sauce, rice, sushi, fish dishes, whisky, wine.... the list is endless.

I haven't tried it kayc but maybe Obbie our lemon expert has. :)

Hi, I have never frozen whole lemons. will try when I get home today, as I have 6 on the bench.
I have about 10 litres of fresh juice frozen..
-
Sounds interesting
-
10 litres. How long did it take you to squeeze that??
-
I had a little lemon juicer, cut lemon in 1/2, and push down on a electric juicer.
took about 3 nites..
-
Good work out for your arms I guess!
Certainly would be easy if we can freeze them whole.

Robyn, do you peel or zest the lemons first and freeze that as well?
-
sometimes Michelle, but I always get lemons, and sometimes Limes...
-
Michelle,
I use my microplane zester to remove the zest before I juice the lemons to freeze. I put the zest into a ziplock bag and pop it in the freezer. then, when i'm cooking i have both the zest and the juice in the freezer available to use :)

Thanks girls, good to know.

ES I too do that but find it easier to peel the lemon zest with a veggie peeler and blitz in tmx. Much quicker.
-
lemon is frozen, will blitz tonight

Be interested to hear how it goes, Robyn....I have a sink full of lemons ATM (waiting to be washed.)
