I have had an idea because I have these lovely new cookbooks.
Shall we try to make a new recipe once a week/fortnight/month?
Write about it, either *: or not. Doesn't matter what the recipe is.
Convert if possible obviously acknowledging author/web link.
And recommend or not depending on how it goes?
What do you think?
We have visitors for lunch tomorrow. I took beef out of the freezer tonight and am doing this Mary Berry recipe.
http://www.lifestylefood.com.au/recipes/3280/easy-bristol-beef
Using JD's *: tomato soup instead of a can, with a tiny bit of leftover wine.
Will cook in oven and put baked potatoes in other oven while we are out for a long walk.
Easy peasy.
Will report back tomorrow night.
Later:
I amended it a bit and it was voted a big hit. Will post in non TMX recipes later.
Served with Foccacia from UK fast and easy cook book, and home grown cauliflower from freezer.
Used 385g water for bread.
Put fried onions on top, with garlic and chopped coriander and pitted olives at one end for DH.
Sprinkled with EVOO and water.

I love the idea DJ, I have sooo many cookbooks & mag subscriptions. Cant stop buying them :) Would love to be in this. I will see how my shoulder is. Did post a new marinade recipe at the weekend.
H :)
-
I'll be in it! I love trying new recipes! :D
I've already got one on the menu plan for tomorrow night that I've never cooked before ;D
-
It's great that you can link the recipe from the book DJ, not all books have the recipe online.
I have about 4-5 magazines subscriptions coming in each month at the moment so there is always something new to convert. Will add my recipes as and when I do them too.
-
I'll be in it too.
I want to make 2 new recipes per week.
Just need to menu plan more.
-
Yes count me in. I collect recipes from everywhere. I've collected a few while we have been travelling too.
-
My chicken/tomato tart (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=11608.0) for lunch was a new recipe from 'Recipes for Leftovers' but non-TMX apart from grating the parmesan as everything is just layered. I'll post it in non-TMX recipes and link it from here.
-
Yes please JD, looks wonderful. :D
-
Great idea DJ. I will have a go too, but maybe just once a month for me as I am still trying to catch up on all the forum recipes I need to make.
-
Ill be watching this thread and participating once we get our own oven lol
-
Sounds good Frozzie
-
I know this has been proposed before but gret idea and just over the past two weeks already bought so many mags and a few cookbooks lol.. Cant wait to get my container half full of cookbooks!!
-
I tried a new recipe today for the ragu bolognese that was given to me by a friend.
Just received my new cookbook Plenty and have marked a several recipes already.
Ice cream - that is one thing I haven't made in the thermomix yet and I don't have an ice cream maker.
-
Mcmich, I'm interested on hearing your reviews on Plenty!
-
First on the list for tomorrow are the Halloween Souffles - very timely. He calls them that as souffles are a scary thing to cook and they have pumpkin in them - sense of humour too. :D
-
I made the American brownie from the forum yesterday.
Reduced sugar and butter a bit, still yummy.
-
Its Yummy Jess. my favourite
-
I tried a new muesli bar slice recipe today and the reviews are mixed. I think I wizzed up the rolled oats a bit and it has more of a cake texture. Undecided if I will post it.
-
Got this sort of thing marinating now, with few tweaks. Beef skirt for fajitas.
http://www.reluctantgourmet.com/blog/meat-recipes/grilled-marinated-skirt-steak/
Balsamic instead of red wine vinegar ( had none)
Blitzed a quarter lemon as well.
For fajitas when back tonight. Out all day will report later.
Edit: they were good. Slightly hot with all the pepper. The men wolfed it down. Cheaper than rump steak.
Success. Will post in non *: thread.
-
I did Nan's Country Kitchen Curried Tuna Slice from here the other night. Mum and SD LOVED it! SD even helped himself to seconds, which he doesn't usually do :-))
-
Yesterday did Osso Bucco in the pc. Will post under non thermomix recipes.
Trying to do one new recipe from every cook book I have , its going to take a while.
H :)
-
It's going to take more than a while with the amount of cookbooks you have Hally ;D

Yes your right there MF

Love this idea but have never managed to convert anything. Could someone help the newbies with with how to go about this.
-
This (http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com.au/2010/10/converting-recipes-for-thermomix.html) posting on QuirkyJo's blog is a good place to start penji01.
I make a rough copy of what I think I'll do then make changes along the way. Don't forget to do this because you will forget by the time you have finished the dish. ;) You can use existing similar recipes as a guide.

I do the same as Judy penji01 ;)
Good luck getting through all your cookbooks Hally ;D
This week I have made Baf's chicken and Chelsea's Swiss Beef. Just about to pick out a couple of new recipes for next week :D

What a good idea Hally. Will try and do the same, glad I gave away 5 cookbooks recently.
-
We had an interesting chicken dish last night and very easy. So easy you don't need the thermomix. Will post the recipe.
-
Mich, I am gaining books, plus what I have bought :o
Done 2 this week, another one sat :)

I have made Lamb Kofta Meatballs in Curry Sauce twice now from Bill Grainger's 'Easy' cookbook (page 109). Really lovely and thermie does a great job on the herbs, garlic, onion etc, as well as the breadcrumbs. Once I either make one recipe twice, or make a couple of recipes, my cookbook purchase is justified ;)
-
Kezza, any chance of posting the Bill Granger recipe please, I really like his recipes. I have a couple of his books but it's not in either of them. :)
-
Don't worry Kezza, I think I'll buy the book as I've had a look inside on-line and like what I see. ;D

Agree with you totally, lol ;D

For anyone wanting to try any of Jamie's 15 min meals first before buying the book, there are a few recipes here:
http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/tv-shows/15-minute-meals
-
Had a look at your link Julie - nothing I saw there would encourage me to buy his 15 minute book. If all recipe books had this information, it would certainly help make that decision as I'm sure they put the best recipes up to encourage buying the book. Have never been that keen on his recipes but that's probably just me.
-
Thanks Julie
-
Can I join in this challenge? I've been inspired by this forum to go thru my cookbooks... and...well.... I have found alot of long forgotten recipes that I have wanted to try but not got around to... :-))
-
Astarra, join in. I am trying new recipes this weekend.
-
Of course Astarra, everyone is welcome & post if they are good :)
H :)
-
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
We love you astarra, of course we want you to join in :-*
I attempted profiteroles today and failed :(
So I made cookie's custard and almond scrolls instead :D

JD, i love Jamiee, will report back after dinner tomorrow :)

Judy I always check on amazon.com when wanting to look inside a book. They don't always have the one you are after, but I always check first. :)
-
Thanks Julie, I usually buy from The Book Depository so will check over at Amazon in future to see if I can find out a bit more about the book. I've been ordering books for everyone these past few days - good fun but time consuming searching for suitable titles.
-
Custard and almond scrolls look yummy Amy. :)
-
Thanks Mich :D
-
New recipe tried today... Tenina's citrus curd. :D It is awesome! :D
-
Two new recipes today. Milo biscuits (yummy) and cinnamon scrolls using edc brioche dough (filling needs work).
-
Today for the first time I made Teninas sundries tomato pesto and it was Devine spread onto toasted sourdough. Also made the salted caramel macadamia brownies also from Teninas book, they looked good and nice texture but IMO the balance of salt and sweet not quite right they were just not sweet enough, so if I made this again I would add more sugar.
-
Nay navy's scones http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2344.0
Excellent.
-
I've made a few new things
Peaches and cream dessert (I used blueberries)
Malt slice
Fruity pear mince pies
-
Curried tuna rice slice thging for the first time today. :)
-
I made Milo biscuits yesterday, but turned it into a slice..
-
I tried a new banana cake/bread recipe yesterday. It's ok, but I have had better, so I won't post it.
-
Made a DJ version of nigellas ritzy chicken posted in babies and kids by Halex, it was good.
-
Looking at doing a thai red lamb curry conversion to TM or PC.
H :)
-
Tried a creamy pesto gnocchi conversion but sauce was far too runny. I think it needs the gnocchi to thicken it but I was too scared to put gnocchi in tmx incase I mushed it! Back to drawing board.
-
Made banana bread today using a recipe with evap milk in it. Sadly I used the wrong size loaf tin and had mixture oozing out all over oven. Bread is lopsided but tasted nice. Would reduce sugar next time as a bit sweet for my liking. Didn't take photo....too embarrassed by my stuff up!
-
Well done Kimmyh for having a go. At least when your disasters are edible it is not too bad!!!
-
Keep trying Kimmy, we know you will get it ;)
We all started like that!
I made Hally's spicy rub for lamb chops tonight. Mum and SD loved it, much better than plain steak ;D
-
JulieO, if you are still getting Bill Grainger's 'Easy' cookbook, I made the low fat Butter Chicken (fabulous) and the pork chops stuffed with sage and proscuitto. My meat loving son said it was just the best. Both definitely 'easy' and will be made again and again. Now that's 3 recipes from one cookbook - bargain!!!!
-
Kezza, they are also on my list. Yes I did get it, there's so much I want to make from it. Last night we had parmesan crusted pork with romesco sauce, thoroughly enjoyed it. :D
-
I'm glad this thread popped up, it reminded me that I tried a sweet and sour recipe from here last night. I will have to go and review it. No photo because it looked like...something you wouldn't want to eat! :o
:D
-
Yep that one is on my list too JulieO :)
-
Pizza scrolls, converted today: http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=11778.0 (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=11778.0)
