What a great idea, I have been in one on another forum, it took a lot of organising for the person that runs it, making sure that people sent there gifts and received. We had a couple of threads where people could stalk the person, asking general questions. Would it only be for Australia? as postage would be expensive for those in other country's and vis versa.
-
I know it would take some organising.... but look what CP did witht the retreat weekend! I think we could do it :)
I'm not sure about whether we would just do Australia... I was hoping others could help brainstorm some ideas. Maybe if we mentioned in the PM with our addresses to the co-ordinator whether we were happy to do an overseas gift?
-
Great idea Amy. I've been involved in work Secret Santa organisation and it's a lot of work but a great result. I would love to participate but have all ready over committed myself in other areas for the rest of this year.
-
I'd be in it Amy but I think you would understand if I said I didn't have the time to organise it - I would be willing to just do as I was told and send my hamper gift anywhere. Do recipients only receive 1 gift, how does it work?
-
It sounds like a lovely idea. I'd love to hear the details - unfortunately I wouldn't be able to help organise - but love to be invloved.
-
Would love to involved Amy.
-
Amy I would love to help you organise this.
-
Amy - a lovely idea!! You can count me in but unfortunately wouldn't have the time to help out in the organising.
-
I'd be in to make something but I am in UK and understand postage is dear from Australia.
I did it once before on another forum a few years ago, and sent a gift but never received one. We never did discover whether it was lost or not sent?
But that's how it is and it is the spirit that matters.
Things could be small and light.
Unfortunately I can't help with organising it, but support the whole idea.
-
Amy it sounds like a fantastic idea. I've been in one on another forum and in order to make it a little easier on the organizer and save on postage, we sent the gifts directly to the recipient so once they received it they knew who their secret Santa was - which was fine because people can make their signature gifts.
We had a set date by which you had to post your gift by.
-
I would love to organise this if others are interested in participating!!! :)
Basically, I was thinking that everyone who is interested in joining in, just post on this thread that you want to be involved. Then we can set a date, maybe early November, when everyone can send me their postal addresses and whether they would be happy to send a parcel overseas for our dear members over there. I can match people up and send the postal addresses to the secret santas, and then it is up to the secret santas to buy and post their gifts. And like Snappy mentioned, we should have a date that the gifts should be posted by.
Should we agree on a price limit of gifts, or is everyone happy to just do their own thing?
Any other thoughts? I'm really excited now :D

I did it once before on another forum a few years ago, and sent a gift but never received one. We never did discover whether it was lost or not sent?
DJ, I'm sure there are many people on this forum who would love to send you a present, myself included :) You will definitely recieve a gift in this secret santa game :-*
-
Agree with snappy, the postage was direct to recipient.
Each person got one name and address only.
It was still done anonymously if wanted and there was a lot of guessing involved.
Yes there was a posting date, and a price limit. But I know with a few handmade items this was ignored.
Thank you Amy.
-
Of course, the addresses would only be shared with the secret santa. I promise you can trust me not to spread anyone's information any further. I'm not like that.
It would be fun to keep everything anonymous. I would be the only one to know, and I wouldn't spoil anyone's surprises. People could share afterwards if they wanted to :)
-
I thought the general idea was going to be to make a hamper type gift Amy, I'm not fussed but can you clarify all this when you get further into the arrangements please.
-
I'm glad you mentioned that Judy, I was hoping we could all brainstorm gift ideas?
I'd love to organise it, but I don't want to organise something that people don't want ;)
-
Amy, I am happy to be involved but you will need to be quick..........I am leaving for India in a couple of weeks so would have to have my gift purchased by then. One of my daughters couple post it for me a bit later. I am also happy to send something to someone overseas. Let me know how much I can spend and I will to it...........
-
Okay, how about we make the cut-off date the 1st November for everyone to express their interest? That way we still have two weeks for people to see this thread and put their name down, and then I would have a week or two to match people, and then everyone would have plenty of time to organise their present?
So far we have:
Wonder
judydawn
dragongirly
mcmich
jeninwa
goldfish
Droverjess
snappy
trudy
-
Sounds good Amy. Is there a dollar limit on the gift? In all other secret santa's I've been involved in there has been a limit.
-
I'm not sure DFM. Should we set a limit, or maybe just a range as a guide? What is everyone comfortable with?
-
A range is good thinking Amy. I don't think it matters. It's about the fun and thought rather than the gift. :)
-
I think there should be a dollar limit to save embarrassment. Count me in.
-
Thanks to those who have put there hands up to help organize. I'm happy to send to an overseas person and think a $ range would be helpful.
-
I think it would be nice to have something homemade or reflective of your home - similar to the hampers you did for the thermofest. For example - a selection of homemade jams and condiments, limoncello etc or something to use in the cooking - like the vanilla beans Gert gave out, some good quality spices, cake decorating tools etc
Love the idea of a full hamper JD but I think it might get too expensive to send.
-
I'm in. OS fine.
-
Yay CP and Chookie :D :D
Homemade gifts would be really nice, but how are we going to set a "$ range" for those?
-
The dollar limit could apply to the cost of the ingredients
-
The cost of the ingredients plus packaging. Maybe just set a limit and we could work within that give or take a dollar or two.
-
Okay, we're getting somewhere :D
Now what should our dollar range be? :)
-
Agree with snappy. Cost of ingredients good idea.
With the other forum I was on there were givers who took no notice of limit, but it didn't matter and it was the spirit of it all that counted.
-
Home made gifts are really nice but jams etc unless well packaged don't fair very well in the post.
I think there should be a minimum amount set. Also a date that parcels need to be sent by.
-
In regards to dates...
Thursday 1st November - Cut off for expressions of interest. Everyone also email me their postal adresses by this date.
Thursday 7th November - I will send each person the address of their gift recipient.
4th December (three weeks before Christmas) - Presents must be sent by this date.
Thoughts anyone?
-
Love the idea of a full hamper JD but I think it might get too expensive to send.
Yikes, I didn't mean a full hamper snappy, I only meant an item you would put in a hamper ;D
-
$10 if you are making something would go a long way but to buy something you might need between $10 & $20 Amy.
-
I think that sounds fair Judy :)
What does everyone else think?
-
me too, I'm in
-
Naturally I want to be in this too please. Just to remind people that sending foodstuffs interstate and probably overseas can be very hard because of quarantine restrictions
Lovely idea Amy.
-
I'm getting excited. Im the only one that really does gifts at christmas so i always give out a lot but dont get much back so this is a fantastic idea. It's great to bring some of the true Christmas spirit back as well - ithe dollar value isn't so important as the thought. Maybe we should have some type of questions game to help people pick presents?
-
I'm in too!
It will be exciting come December when the presents arrive :)
-
Hi Amy lovely idea, I am in too!
-
Hi Amy,
I'd love to take part, and I am happy to send a gift overseas.
Sue :)
-
Yes you are right Cookie, might be easier to just buy something. I have an idea already.
-
I'm in I love SS's and OS is fine.
You may want to give details to those who have an overseas person maybe a little earlier so that they get the gift before Christmas I'm not sure if 3wks is long enough to get there, please correct me if I'm wrong :)
Another point if it's ok when we send Amy our details maybe a few ideas of what we like and don't like eg. I don't like lavender (it gives me migraines) love candles and baking etc I hope you know what I'm trying to say
-
Great idea Amy, count me in too please. SS is fun and with xmas getting closer your getting me really excited now.
-
Awesome, thanks so much everyone! I can't wait to organise this for you all :D
Maybe we should have some type of questions game to help people pick presents?
Did you have anything specific in mind Wonder?
Another point if it's ok when we send Amy our details maybe a few ideas of what we like and don't like eg. I don't like lavender (it gives me migraines) love candles and baking etc I hope you know what I'm trying to say
That is a good idea too, but it would mean everyone would have to tell me what their gift is. Does that bother anyone? I am happy to spend the time matching people with gifts if that is what everyone wants :) :)
-
I'm in :) :) :) Happy to post OS if necessary. Great idea Amy 8)
-
Thanks djinni!! :D
I have just edited my inital post to include the names of everyone who is participating, and have put (OS) next to their name if they have indicated that they are happy to post overseas :)
-
Wow Amy what a lovely idea. I was saying to someone today that this forum is more a friendship circle. I am over committed in my life at present but look forward to the day when i can be more active again. Happy Christmas everyone.
-
Count me in....great idea.
-
I would like to add my name as well ;D
-
Glad this is growing.
Happy to post abroad. Please allow time for airmail.
Think we must take what we are given, in the spirit of Christmas, being prescriptive on what is ok is hard on both giver/receiver. Any serious allergies can obviously be noted.
I already have an idea of I would like to send and it will be made by me and is not too huge to post.
After all there is, I am sure, another family member of the receiver who will enjoy a gift if it is a "hit or miss" as my kids said when young?
-
H is in too :)
-
Hi Amy, lovely idea
Please add my name, happy to post OS
Marie
-
Count me in too, Amy.
Do you need us to start sending you our addresses yet? It's a big job you are taking on and the sooner you start organsing it at your end the easier it will be.
I think sending foodstuffs could be a problem with quarantine, breakage / leakage, etc., as mentioned earlier. I know that I would enjoy plotting some sort of foody gift to send, but think it best not to do so. Got to admit, though, I do have an idea of what I will buy.
I'm not sure of the exact date, but I think close off for overseas mail with Australia Post to guarantee delivery for Xmas could be towards the end of November, that is something worth being aware of.
-
Amy, it a fantastic idea
count me in. I'm happy to post OS
-

I don't really receive many gifts at Christmas and I don't need to buy many either, so I'm forewarning you all that I'm not very good at choosing gifts for people (other than what I like to buy for myself)
So I think Wonders suggestion of a questions game is a good idea. Maybe.
Favourite colour
Hobbies
I like ?
I loathe ?
Etc
-
I am in too thanks Amy :) :)
-
I forgot to add, I'm happy to post OS.
Maybe we could give our likes and/or dislikes in 25 words or less. That way the person giving the pressie gets a small insight into the recipient, but it will still be a bit of a challenge as to what to send.
-
What a great idea Amy...count me in too! :D
-
Wow, thanks to everyone who wants to join in!! I have 26 people on the list now :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Marina, I think you are right. I have started putting all the information into a table in a Microsoft Word document, so whenever people want to start sending me their postal addresses, I am ready to copy and paste them in next to your name. I have already had a couple ;) As soon as I have a handful of addresses, I will start jotting down ideas for how I will match people, just so I have a head start ;D

That sounds like a good idea Katie. Anyone who would like to write me a little paragraph, I would love to hear from you. Then I can match people according to what they write ;)
That being said, I'm sure all the lovely people on this forum will be giving wonderful gifts that anyone would enjoy :D
If there is any other information people would like me to know, you can post on here on send it in a PM if it is regarding your gift.
Otherwise... any more takers? ;D ;D ;D
-
Spreadsheet sounds like a good idea Amy.
I don't think you have to match people - most secret Santa's are done by drawing names out of a hat. I think it would be much easier for you to do it that way.
-
Thanks Katie :)
I will only be deliberately matching those who are overseas or people who send me information about their gift. Everyone else will be completely random ;D
-
Sent you email Amy....hope that is right, or should have I PMed? ???
-
Either is fine Astarra :D :D :D
-
Count me in too Amy - and I am happy to post OS.
I am a little confused about whether we are making something to give, or buying something to give ......... or can it be either?
I will PM you my address.
-
Thanks Karen!
You can make or buy whatever you would like, its completely up to you :)
Bearing in mind the restrictions that may apply to posting to certain places of course ;)
-
Amy thanks again for coming up with the idea and organising.
I think to make it easier on you drawing names will be the best idea and if we set up a questions game thread then once you know who you have you can see if they have posted anything about themselves on the thread. This will save you getting inundated with emails/pm's and having to then on forward to the correct person, if you don't want to give any hints out then you don't need to contribute to the thread.
-
I will be happy to receive anything kitchen related - never much been into personal gifts apart from flowers, wine or choccies. All my forum friends who post gifts, it is usually kitchen related - guess they know me well ;D

You've taken on a big job Amy - make it a little easy on yourself :D
I think Wonder's idea is great .......
-
You've taken on a big job Amy - make it a little easy on yourself :D
Hehehehe... thanks Karen ;D It may be a big job, but I'm having a ball already :D
Just to let everyone know, I have received several addresses now and have already started drawing names out. As soon as I get addresses, I can let people know who they are sending to ;)
And its certainly not too late if anyone else wants to join in....? :D :D :D
-
Count me in!
-
I'm in too, going on holiday's in the van for a month but should be back by the posting date, if not I will just buy something and post it, bit hoping to be home to make what I have in mind. Good girl Amy.
-
Thank you so much everyone for joining in!!! I have 31 on the list now, and 12 of you have sent me your address :D :D :D
This is going to be much fun ;D ;D
-
Pop me in too please Amy! ;D
-
I sent you my address hope you got it Amy :)
-

I sent you my address hope you got it Amy :)
Just pasted it into my spreadsheet Yvette ;) ;) ;)
-
Cool Amy sanks ;)
-
Awesome, thanks so much everyone! I can't wait to organise this for you all :D

Sorry Amy I just meant when we send you our details just some likes and dislikes and then you can forward this information with our address to whomever not what you actually want to be given, generally just drawn out of a hat
-
Ah, I follow you now suzanne, thanks! ;D
I have started sending out addresses for the secret santas. Can everyone please let me know, either by PM or email, when they have sent their gift? Then I will put a little tick next to the names. I already have a tick next to one name ;) ;) ;)
-
Wow that's quick.
Amy can you confirm you got my details? for some reason I always have troubles with Pm's
-
Yes, thanks Wonder, I have yours ;)
I will post a quick list, these are the people I do have an address for:
Wonder

Hahaha!!! :D
I'm ok in that department thanks Amy :P ;)
-
did you get my Pm Amy
No I didn't Robyn, unless its coming through snail mail :-)) ;D
-
Amy send me a PM, and I will reply with my address, please.
Problems with PMs again now
-
No worries Robyn, I'll do that now :D
My DFM has just PM'd me with a really good idea, which I hadn't even considered before ;D
The gifts will be arriving at many different times, so how about we set a date, when everyone has recieved their gift, on which we can all open them? How does this sound to everyone?
-
Makes alot of sense to me, good thinking too, Michele :)
-
Great idea and can we show and tell too ;D Part of the fun is knowing what everyone receives.
-
You mean not wait for Christmas Day itself to open?
-
... what ... wait until Christmas day ... way tooooo impatient for that!
What date do the gifts have to be with the recipient by?
By the way, everyone, I already know who is getting my one!
-
By the way, everyone, I already know who is getting my one!
LOL ;D ;D ;D
My DFM suggested the 23rd? I thought this was a good idea, as most of us will probably have other plans to be getting on with on Christmas day? Are there any other thoughts? I love a good brainstorm :D
What date do the gifts have to be with the recipient by?
Um... did we decide on that? I'll have to read back through the thread :-))
-
23rd is good for me.
-
Amy just PM'd you my address ;) :-*
-
Amy just PM'd you my address ;) :-*
Thank you CC :-* :-*
-
Amy - also just PMed you my details . . . :D
-
It's going to be a long wait until the 23rd December for those who receive their presents this month ;D
-
Surely that is the whole point of Christmas.
The waiting
The anticipation
The celebration- the sharing of the food, company and FINALLY the time to open presents.
-
Amy - also just PMed you my details . . . :D
Got them GF! :D :D :D
It's going to be a long wait until the 23rd December for those who receive their presents this month ;D
A real test of willpower!! ;D
-
DJ, you nailed it ;D
-
The 23rd was just an example. We could make it any date. The week before Christmas - the 15th, the 18th,
Just thought it would be nice to open our pressies on the same day and then share what we received. :)
-
Can I join in. Am I allowed to send a puppy :D
We have 7 to pick from. Lol
-
I would love a puppy but it would probably get sea sick between you and me, so perhaps not!
-
Can I join in. Am I allowed to send a puppy :D
We have 7 to pick from. Lol
NNNNOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I don't think I could wait till the 23rd, maybe the day after it arrives :) :)
-
Mandi, of course you are in :D :D :D
Sounds like some people are really going to have to train that willpower muscle ;D
-
I think it shoud be as close to Christmas day as possible. I'm big on not trying to guess or open presents before the big day.
-
Sorry Mandi, my previous post looked like I was shouting. I should have said "nnnnoooo" with a capital N! I would have to take two puppies if you sent one! ;)
-
I've just started another thread where you can tell us a bit about yourself so your secret Santa (and the rest of the forum) can learn a bit more about you. I hope my giftee pops in there soon .......
-
Thanks Snappy! :D :D :D
I think it shoud be as close to Christmas day as possible. I'm big on not trying to guess or open presents before the big day.
So maybe the 23rd would be the best? I imagine a few people would have ther plans for Xmas Eve?
-
Golly you guys have been busy! Count me in Amy, even though I break out in hives every year around this time at the thought of Xmas shopping!
Apologies in advance to my giftee, I'm not very good at choosing pressies, but it's the spirit of the thing that counts.
-
Yay deedub!! And of course, its the thought and spirit that counts :D
-
Just PMed you too Amy. Did we set a dollar amount? Does waiting so long to open gifts mean we shouldn't send food?
-
Amy what a great idea, can you please count me in. ;D
-
I think we decided on a range of $10-20 :)
Depending on what food, how far your gift has to travel etc, food might not be the best choice. Unless it is something really hardy. Like vegemite ;D ;D
Amy what a great idea, can you please count me in. ;D
Absolutely rainbow, we'd love to have you join in!!! Just PM me your address :D
-
:D :D
-
Vegemite seems to be haunting me now kt2!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
It's everywhere Amy!!! :o :o :o
;D :D :D ;D
-
I'll be having dreams (or nightmares!) about it next lol ;D ;D
Have you PM'd me your address kt2? :)
-
I've just pm'd you my address Amy :)
Did you get it ok?
-
Already replied Katie!! :D :D
-
Talk about quick!!!!! ;)
-

-
Amy, I trust you'll be sending someone your address so you don't miss out on a gift :)
-
Count me in too Amy :)
The taste forum has had a secret Santa for 3 years this year....has been lots of fun & successful.
Thought I would give links to the 2010 & 2011, so you can scroll down the pages and get some present hints.
http://www.taste.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=16560&hilit=Secret+Santa&start=180#p256920
http://www.taste.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=19567&hilit=Secret+Santa&start=150#p331734
I Think the key is to just have fun with it, and it doesn't have to be food orientated....it can just be humorous, personalised to suit the individual, anything you wish to gift that person. if there is too many suggestions of what we like or don't like, I think it takes the fun out of it, and makes it harder for the gift giver ;)
Also, keeping yourself Anonymous to the recipient, is half the fun.
If you are putting your name as the sender on package, call yourself Secret Santa, then your address.
if you think you know who your Santa is, keep it quiet and just post your photo or description of gift....it's fun for everyone to guess until its time for all Santas to be revealed.
when everyone has received their gifts, Amy can then adjust the first post on this thead, stating who your Santa was.
hope you don't mind, just some suggestions ;)
-
I hope you didn't think I was saying a giant list of what you want but some suggestions of like and dislikes so you don't end up with body stuff etc and can't use it because you have dermatitis or an allergy to something in particular etc this is just how we do it on our mums forum and it works well xx
-
Maddy, thank you for your suggestions!!! You are now number 38 on my list ;D ;D
Your doing a good job Amy :)
Thanks chrissa! As long as everyone has fun :D :D :D
Amy, I trust you'll be sending someone your address so you don't miss out on a gift :)
I'm happy just doing the organising deedub! Its a gift enough for me to see so many forum members joining in and having fun :D
-

Okay Judy, PM coming now.... :-)) :)
Amy, I just sent you an email instead of a PM. Sorry, still trying to work things out.
Moptop
Thats fine Moptop! I'll check it now ;)
-
I hope you didn't think I was saying a giant list of what you want but some suggestions of like and dislikes so you don't end up with body stuff etc and can't use it because you have dermatitis or an allergy to something in particular etc this is just how we do it on our mums forum and it works well xx
not at all, I probably appeared a bit blunt in my comment, sorry, didn't mean it to read that way :)
Allergies etc. absolutely understandable for listing....I guess what I was trying to suggest is whatever goes....if your recipient won't use/like I'm sure they know someone who will do....it just takes pressure off the buyer "to get it right" iykwim?
-
I know who I am sending a gift too! ;) Bit excited. Thanks Amy, having fun already. Love secret stuff!!!
-
:D :D :D :D :D
-
Is it too late to put my name down?
-
Absolutely not fruity! Just PM me your address ;D ;D
-
Amy, just to say you are doing a great job of organizing this....
My DD thinks your cool...
-
Add me too please sounds like fun.
-
Just chekcing you got my PM Amy?
-
Just been looking at some of the posts on the threads Maddy posted - some of those gifts look way, way more expensive than our budget. I think it's much more interesting if you have a lower budget, it really makes you use your imagination.
-
I thought the same thing Marina - anything with a bit of thought, price not important will do me.
-
Numbers update!! We now have 40 participants :D :D :D
Add me too please sounds like fun.
Have PM'd you PAP ;D
I thought the same thing Marina - anything with a bit of thought, price not important will do me.
Ditto Judy, its the thought that counts at Christmas :D

Thanks Robyn, and that is very sweet of your DD :-* :-*
-
Hi Amy I am not sure how to PM using Tapatalk do you know how?
-
No, sorry GHM, I don't use Tapatalk. You can always send me an email if that is easier?
-
I rarely use Tapatalk GHM but I've just opened it. Tap on Amy's name, then view profile, then send message to Amy. Don't know if there is any other way but this is simple enough.
-
I've just been shopping ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D
GHM, I hope Judy's explanation helped you.
-
Sent pm again. Please confirm Amy, thanks.
Discovered sent to wrong Amy yesterday.
Oops
Can one retrieve sent message?
Amy has a :) after her name!!
-
No DJ, once it is sent it's gone. I'd PM the other Amy again and tell her you sent it to the wrong Amy as she may be wondering what it's all about.
-
Happy Dance!! just been given my Secret Santa name. ;D ;D
-

Hi
I have PMd Amy my postal address, I notice that there are now over 9 pages on this thread which is fantastic. But it would be really useful ? Amy if you are around today, if you could put a summary up on the general guidelines ie price of gift, when to send etc etc.so I don't have to read thru the whole lot!!!!
Thanks for organizing it sounds like fun .😄

Good idea, if not too much work for Amy. You are doing a good job, Amy. we really appreciate it. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
This is a secret Santa thing so I do not think we need guidelines. Whatever you would like and whatever price you can afford or want to pay Is my idea.
Let's keep it simple. Once you start making guidelines you are getting into the things I so dislike about Christmas giving.
Give from the heart. Accept in the spirit it is given. It does not matter to me at all. Just the delight in receiving a gift meant for me is heart warming.
The gift I sent is worth very little but I am hoping the recipient will be pleased I chose it just for her or him.
A lump of coal is equal to a lump of gold if it is sent with good wishes.
I will not be visiting this thread again. A secret is a secret. My job is done.
Gert
-
Gert - well said!! couldn't agree more!! Thank you!!
-
Thanks GHM and Chookie ;D
For those who want it, I have rewritten my first post on the first page of this thread to summarise basically what we are doing. I've also listed all the participants so far ;)
Gretch is right, we are giving from the heart and having fun together. Thats the main thing :D
-
Got my name too.... :D

-
I have been reading the posts of my secret Santa to try and decide what they will like. :)
Me too cookie1!!
I told my DH that I feel like I'm a stalker!! Trying to find out anything/everything my secret Santa likes/dislikes has/doesn't have.....! 8)
All my "research" paid off though as I'm really happy with the gift i got for my secret Santa ;D
It's been good fun. :)
-
I'm doing the same racking my brains, but I think I will go to the shops tomorrow and decide whilst I'm there
-
I don't have a name yet :(, am I supposed to have a name by now?
-
I'll send you one right now Mandi ;)
BTW I am still waiting on 3 addresses... but if I post the names now it might give some of the secret santas away. I'll send PMs :)
-
Thanks Amy :D
-
WARNING this thread is bad for your health!!!!!!! I was so excited about getting my name for the gift yesterday. Went off to bed, then about 1 am woke up thinking about what to get and then couldn't get back to sleep for hours!!!!!
-
LOL :D :D :D
I get so excited whenever I see one of you ladies mention your gift, I go back and check my spreadsheet to see who you're sending to and who is sending to you ;D
Its so much fun!!
-
Same here GHM so I organised mine today and hopefully good sleep tonight.
-
I'm thinking myself silly too. I thought I saw something that was ideal...and then I thought nah! It's a special person so needs to be a special pressie too :D
-
I have been looking for a special gift but have yet to come up with something. So will keep looking and thinking. Better not send a puppy :(
-
Can everyone put something on the secretvsanta 'other ' thread.. Please!
-
Amy, I didn't realise, we are we meant to let you know what our gift is for our giftee or just that we have purchased it (I bought mine at the weekend)? Have we decided on a 'grand opening' date?
-
Amy, I didn't realise, we are we meant to let you know what our gift is for our giftee or just that we have purchased it (I bought mine at the weekend)? Have we decided on a 'grand opening' date?
Marina, its handy for me to know when you've purchased your gift just so I know that nobody has forgotten and we end up with a member who doesn't get a present. But I don't think I need to worry about anyone forgetting because we are all so excited about it ;D So its really up to you :-*
At this stage the grand opening date is the 23rd December :)
-
I have organised mine for my secreta santa.
I think its very approriate for them ;D
H :)
-
I have a few ideas but nothing sorted yet for mine... :-))
-
Amy, got mine sorted. Yahhhhh.
-
You are all so good! I still have NO idea!
-
Finally think I have sorted it, ordered this morning so hope it turns up soon so I can post.... ;)
-

My gift is sorted. :D
-
You are all amazing. I have no idea. One thing in mind but will need to go back and look at his/ her posts to see how it would fit.
-
i what out of this.............its doing my head in ;D
-
I'm struggling too Uni, looking for something perfect is hard ;D
-
Come on girls, you can do it!! ;D
-
I was planning on going to the shops today but when I plan anything one of my children gets sick :-)) happens all the time and it's driving me crazy
-
Glad I'm not the only one struggling. Weekend shopping trip looking likely
-
I said I wasn't coming back here but it seems some are struggling. I have to tell you today I got a surprise package in the mail and the best thing in it was a reject from my friends wardrobe. It is over 20 years old and looks like new, not that I would, care if it didn't. One of the nicest bestest things I have ever received. Something pre loved from a dear friend.
So maybe you should start shopping from home. Well maybe not clothes but I can think of some things I have that other members here would love. Anyone for a sometimes not so D DH?
;D ;D ;D
Gert
-

Sometimes I feel I could make him fit into a post box,
DH has been retired for 23 years. NUFF said!

Gert
Yes those retirement years, I can just imagine, I feel your pain/frustration. Gert why do you think I book so many trips overseas, helps to keep dh at work, lol, ;D
H :)
-
I think everyone should refrain from sending husbands due to occupational health and safety issues :-))
If anyone else would like to join in now, please send me your postal address ASAP so I draw final names. I also have a couple of names in my table of people who expressed interest but haven't sent their details yet.
Just a friendly reminder from Santa's little helper :D
-
I went up to the shops today to pick up some photos, while waiting went for a wander and saw something I just had to have and thought, yep perfect secret Santa pressie too. :)
-
Thats great Chrissa! I just had to go and check who you're buying for lol ;D

-
Same here, l won't be posting until I get home, probably the first week if December.
-
No worries girls ;D
Got your PM ES ;)
-
Sorry Amy, I've been out of internet coverage. I use Telstra wireless and have hardly any service in Lower King. It's ridiculous, I have a brilliant service here in tiny little Nyabing.
Have pm'd you.
-
Dear Secret Santa my gift arrived today. ;D ;D You were certainly on the ball getting it organized so quickly.Love CC :-* :-*
-
Well I haven't had much time or brain capacity to think about what to buy as yet. When did we have to send them by?
I haven't forgotten I promise :D
-
The 4th of December Dede. You have plenty of time ;)
-
... and the "Grand Group Opening Day" is 23 December.
-
Thank you. That's great I have time to figure out why I'm doing then. I'm not saying anymore or the person receiving my gift might just work it out :D
Oh and by the way do we write anything on the gift package so they know who their gift come from? Or is it a secret forever?
-
Im still figuring out what to buy 😄😄😄
-
Santa's been here. ;D
-
Santa must be delivering to all the nice people first. The naughty people have to wait!
;D ;D ;D
Gert
-
Yay for CC and DJ!! :D :D :D

I think there are a few people in that boat Froz. Myself included! :-))
Oh and by the way do we write anything on the gift package so they know who their gift come from? Or is it a secret forever?
The idea is to write "from your secret santa", and then when we have the group opening, anyone who wants to know who their santa was can ask ;)
-
Lucky overseas girls have received their presents first - Amy were there only 2 O/S participants? Nice to see the SS idea is alive and kicking.
Santa must be delivering to all the nice people first. The naughty people have to wait!
;D ;D ;D
Gert
Poor Gert, is she going to be last on the delivery list ;D
-
ROFL ;D ;D ;D

I'll make sure I tell some santas to send some coal ;D ;D ;D
-
From coal we get diamonds.
-
.......oh yeah :-))
-
Can alway dream, I guess!!? ;)
-
I'm still thinking of what to purchase. I'll be posting closer to the end date so even though my recipient isn't naughty (as far as I know!) they will need to be patient.
-
I love diamonds
-
Lol robyn..
Gert good things come to those who wait or so im told 😄😄😄😄
Havent sent or received as yet.. No clue what to get!! Decisions decisions!

-
I have some ideas, will get it next week.
-
I have my gift, just need to purchase the wrapping, Will post on Monday. ;D

I have my gift, just need to purchase the wrapping, Will post on Monday. ;D
Yippee!!! :D :D :D
-
I found mine today, but am going to post it on a random date so my person doesn't work out who it could be from based on those people who've said they've posted off a pressie ;)
-
You are a clever cream puff CP ;D ;D
-
I'm still waiting to hear if my recipient has been naughty or nice....it may be a lump of coal they get if they have been naughty. That would be interesting getting a lump of coal through customs!! Or even finding a lump of coal... Have to hope they have been good.
-
;D
I've only just responded to Amy as I've been in Albany and where our house is, Lower King, the wireless reception is pathetic, so no internet.
I'm excited!!
-
I think those smiley faces Amy has in her posts are looking evil ! I think she's getting so much fun out of knowing "who's doing what to who"
:D
-
Who, me? :-)) ;D
;D

-
Im wondering how many will actually wait to open their presents lol!!
-
Probably not many LOL!! :-)) ;D
-
Probably not but loving the whole ss idea amy.
-
You haven't been breaking your own rules have you Amy ;D
-
Hey Amy, you've done a great job with this!
I was wondering what the rules were and was really hoping I wouldn't have to trawl through 20 pages to find out. But, happily, there it was on the very first post. Well done! ;D
-
Mine went today. Now I think I should have posted it from somewhere far away. Easy to work out who from where.
-
Thanks Frossie and MJ! :D
You haven't been breaking your own rules have you Amy ;D
Who, me? :-)) Of course not Judy, I'm a good girl ;D
Mine went today. Now I think I should have posted it from somewhere far away. Easy to work out who from where.
But then it would have been returned to that far away place if anything had gone wrong in delivery :-\
It's okay chookie, we are having fun and thats what matters :D
-
That's a good idea Chookie. I think I know how to do that too, mum's going on Holiday shortly.
Will get her to post it sometime while she is away.
I'm going to wait to open mine, it will be so much fun. :D
-
Amy, this is so much fun, Mine is nearly ready.. ;D ;D ;D
-
DFM, what a great idea! :D :D
Yay Robyn ;D ;D
Everyone is doing such an awesome job with their presents, well done everyone :-*
-
I received mine today haven't even bought mine yet :D :D
-
Gert posted this on another thread. Any thoughts?
"If we all open them on the same day it will be overload. I say we will enjoy it more if we have progressive openings,
Gert."
-
I would prefer all on the same day if possible. I'm not going to post mine for a few weeks so there can be no cheating by my recipient.
-
It is a very busy time of the year when some of us just won't have time to spend all day on here reading about everyone's opening of their present. I have to say I agree with Gert on this one.
-
Yes good idea Gert
-
I see that we have slightly mixed opinions.... so how about we leave it up to each individual person?
-
I have posted my gift too! Amy is there a thread to post photos of gifts (unopened or opened) yet? That way we might know who is being naughty (opening gifts early) and who is being nice (waiting)!!
-
Lol those with no will power will go first...also womder how many will just pretend they just opened it but really opened it weeks before haha
-
Nice work Kimmy! :D There is now a thread for present photos (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=11634.0;topicseen), opened or not ;)
You have a very devious mind Frozzie, will you be one of the ones to pretend? ;D
-
No i will be good but will have to put it in a drawer or somewhere though lol.. Human nature is human nature.. No devious mind here lol!
-
On some occasions I can wait patiently to open a present but not always, it depends how much I need a 'feel good hit' on the day so if others are like me, don't feel guilty about opening your present early. Can't wait to see who is first to be game enough to post their picture :D :D We know DJ has already posted hers on another thread so I guess she wins that one but with her receiving a few presents, she wouldn't have known what was what and which was a SS present. The whole idea is to make each and every one of us happy and if you want to be happy earlier than some - then go for it I say ;)
-
I completely agree with Judy :D
We are doing this for fun and friendship :-*
I hope DJ posts her photos on the secret santa photos thread :)
-
True true.. You guys are making it really hard to wait mce present arrives lol..
-
I haven't even bought mine yet and every body is talking about opening the ones that they have received, I had better get a wiggle on I think ;D
-
Lol there is still time.. Do t panic unles your my ss lol ..
-
;D ;D Kim, plus I might just pm Amy when I have sent it that way people won't know
-
Lol
-
Good idea suzanne, and don't worry, you still have plenty of time ;)
Thank you for linking my post about the photos thread Judy :-*
-
Full of ideas Amy some good some not so ;D
-
As long as you act mainly on the good ideas, I think you should be alright ;D

Don't you trust your SS Wonder! ;D ;D
Gert

Gert, judging by some of the comments here I definetly don't trust everyone. Not sure about my ss, I think she wil be fine but you just never know
-
I'm not saying anything ;D ;D ;D :-X ;D
Except... well done Robyn! :D

I mustn't be your SS then wonder. I think I will be opening mine on arrival! I normally don't even make it out of the post office before I open a package!!! :)
-
😄😄😄😄😄
-
I won't be opening my pressie until the 23rd or maybe even Christmas Eve. I love to open a parcel on Christmas Eve.
We always opened one on Christmas Eve as kids a tradition from Dad. I did it with my kids. It was always pyjamas so they looked nice in the photos of them unwrapping their gifts.
-
I'm with you Michele, nothing better than opening Christmas presents very late on Christmas eve or Christmas day. As kids we were allowed to open wrapped gifts after midnight mass but had to wait until morning for santas arrival.
-
My SS gift arrived today and is put away until December. :D :D I'm so excited that I've received it already.
-
i hope u like it Mich
-
I was going to wait to christmas day but got caught out big time.

I feel like celebrating already!! :D
-
Oh I must get myself moving and find a special present. I still have yet to come up with anything, will have to do some window shopping until I find just the right gift :D
-
My SS present keeps on growing ....... I keep on thinking of things and adding things to the pile of stuff to go into the parcel ;D
-
Lucky person who receives your SS gift then Karen.
-
Amy, I am sending my SS today.... :) :)
-
My SS present arrived in the mail today ;D ;D ;D ;D I will be good though and wait until later to open it.
Even policeman DH couldnt find any clues as to where (and who) it might have come from - no postmark!!
Thank you SS for weeks of excitement coming up :-* :-* :-*
-
My SS present keeps on growing ....... I keep on thinking of things and adding things to the pile of stuff to go into the parcel ;D
Wow Karen, as soon as I get home to my computer I'm going to check who you're sending to! ;D
Your SS sounds very tricky, they have done a good job of remaining secret ;)
Amy, I am sending my SS today.... :) :)
Yay! Another one on its way... :D :D :D

That's a great number Amy, loved your idea and it has caused so much excitement on the forum. Really has got the festive season off with a bang and made us realise just how close Christmas is now. Thank you for thinking of this idea.
-

It was my pleasure Judy, thank you!! :D

How did you know that blue, purple and yellow is my favourite colour combinatin Gertie? :D Thank you for the pretty picture!
-
Thanks so much Amy.
Lovely picture Gert.
-
Yes great job Amy, I still haven't got to the shop yet, seriously how hard can it be :-))
-
Finding the perfect present can be very hard suzanne ;)
-
Sometimes getting out of the house is even harder ;D
-
LOL ;D
-
suzanne, if you are having difficulty getting to the shops, online stores are a great place to shop. The Book Depository (http://www.bookdepository.com/) will send books anywhere in the world free of charge and you can have them sent direct to your SS recipient otherwise the postage from your end would be a crippler.
-
I agree Judy. Even an Amazon credit voucher or Kindle Credit voucher. The SS is not like a competition of mothers providing morning tea for a play date. OMG that scenario is frightening.
It does not matter a jot if you send something you have in the house, shopped for especially or ordered on line. It does not have to be wonderful, inventive, groovy or something you have spent a week making. All it has to be is fun in the giving. It could be as humble as a card with a message. I doubt there would be anyone here who would not be delighted with a gift from the heart. The price does not matter.
This is meant to be fun not stressful. Re gifting is allowed. A treasure from your pantry. Any porcini mushrooms? Your grandmothers sandwich plate you will never use. How about some Himalayan Pink Rock Salt. Anything from Peters of Kensington. Just a modest delivery fee there. Have a favourite Thermothingy recipe? Print it out and package up the ingredients from the pantry.
I may send mine some butter, and chicken livers! LOL! Well maybe not.
Any one else with some ideas for Suzanne?
Gert
-
Judy I used this place before I had my Kindle.
Gert
-
JD, whats the turn aroud like with book depositry?
H :)
-
I think Suzanne was just having a little joke! But for anyone who is looking for simple presents from the home here are my suggestions:
* uni's limoncello
* flavored salts from FFS
* make up some spice mixes eg ras el hanout and fajita seasoning, peri peri and include some recipes to use them
* the Christmas hamper thread will also have some good ideas
-
JD, whats the turn aroud like with book depositry?

I find it takes about 2 weeks if the book is in stock

Thanks Snappy :)

Good luck nazar, I'm sure you will find something wonderful :D
-
My gift will be a mix of home made and bought. It's fun thinking of things to make that I can post and that will last until Christmas!
-
I think my present arrived today. I'm only waiting on one online purchase and its something very light whereas this is a very heavy package. I'm very excited and will put it away until our Christmas tree goes up on the 1st December, it can then take pride of place as the first present of the year.
-
Exciting news Wonder! :D :D And you are one of the patient ones who can wait until Christmas ;) ;D
-
Wonder how exciting.. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Secret Santa has sent me a Xmas card to put with my parcel from The Book Depository. (oops I opened it, but it didn't have anything written on the envelope saying it was from SS)
It was posted in Adelaide, but that doesn't mean anything really, SS may have a friend here who posted it for them.
Thank you SS!(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/08/je3emypy.jpg)

-
Had inspiration today :D :D :D :D
-
What if someone's get lost in the mail? I always worry about this. I would hate for my SS person to not receive theirs. I often have trouble with dear old Australia Post.
-
You can get a tracking number when you pay for postage. This helps to locate parcel if lost.
-

I love that stuff :D :D :D

Just keep an ear out on one of the chat threads after you send it Cookie. If your SS person doesn't post that they've recieved theirs within a decent time, then you can worry ;)
-
And everyone should be vigilant and post a photo of their unwrapped gift so the SS doesn't get worried :)
-
i have sent mine a whlie ago, and i am getting a tad worried :(
-
I think everyone should post in the photos section once they have their gift - that way their secret Santa knows it was received safe and well.
If you can't post photos - maybe just include a description of the present.
-
Good thinking girls. We don't want stressed secret santas! :-))
i have sent mine a whlie ago, and i am getting a tad worried :(
Sending you a PM Uni :)
-

Suggest we all get a receipt of posting.
Two or three years ago I sent a SS on another forum but never received one back. Never knew if not sent or lost in post. Just one of those things.
Hoping for safe passage of all SS parcels.
-
Gosh now I am more worried. Or maybe my friend registered it for me. I'll have to ask. Please post a photo of it if you have received it. Judy,Gert, Chookie, Uni, Hally, Obbie, Emme, Kimmy, Andie, or who ever it is going/has gone to.
-
Cookie, now you are worrying me too :(
-
I registered mine always do australia post don't always know which way is up :-))
-
Didn't mean to worry you cookie. Sorry. ???
Sure all will be well.
-
Cookie, we recieved a parcel yesterday that had taken over a week to get to Albany from Perth. I think the posties are either getting slack or under the pump leading up to Christmas :-\
-
Wow, would have been quicker to drive Goliath and pick it up, Amy! :-))
-
Cookie, we recieved a parcel yesterday that had taken over a week to get to Albany from Perth. I think the posties are either getting slack or under the pump leading up to Christmas :-\
Maybe it went for a quick interstate tour before it came back Amy ;D
-
Of course Kimmy, the posties were just giving Mrs Brown and her boys a chance to see the countryside ;D
Astarra, it sure would :-)) Even if poor little Goliath ran out of fuel and we had to walk to the next roadhouse, it probably still would have been quicker ;)
-
We sent three boxes all identically posted from france to oz.. 2 made it but one went to the usa.. Came back to france and eventually made it back to oz but had to repackage and send it.. Lucky dh was still there to do it as was some of my thx books .. Which arrived quite damaged.. Was very angry!! Postage worldwide sucks on any given day!
-
And it's not like its a cheap service either.....
-
Dont think my ss believes im good.. But i am rully trully i am lol

Not sure who got me, but I am hoping to find a cherry pitter…if you are my SS and you love me lots, I would love to get one of those. (Not seen one in all my hunting!) :D
(Just sayin’) Is that cheeky?
-
I have been told that it takes 7/10 days to get from Vic to WA by post.
SS I haven't been very good but am trying my best. I check the mail every day, but have only found bills.
-
I have had mine present for a couple of weeks now but haven't posted mine yet. Sorry to my recipient but I always wait until the last minute and do things "just in time". I already have most of the gift just haven't wrapped it up yet. Hearing all the post stories maybe I should get onto it sooner than I planned??
-

I think that might be a good idea Wonder. We would hate for your parcel to get lost in the Xmas madness :(
Maybe everyone else who has been putting off sending their parcel could also try to send it the next week or so? I would feel awful is anyone missed out because their present was lost :-[
-
I am a bit >:( with myself now... the SS parcel I sent was delivered today....back to me. I put my home town on it instead of the recipients. :-)) So will be posting again this week - or maybe I re-posted it today already?! ;)

That's so funny Astarra but very annoying for you. A few years ago at work when we were needing to send a lot of files from the Melbourne office to the Brisbane office we got the help of a young guy that was doing work experience and we aren't sure how it happended but he managed to put our address on all of the boxes, they came back to us about 1 week later and we were all very confused until someone looked at the address.
-
That's funny Astarra, 2 blonde moments in 1 day ;D
-
:D :D :D funny
-
Lol that is funny. Fancy doing it twice, bet you got excited when you thought you were getting 2 parcels until you realized :)
-
I recognised them as they were being carried up the drive and thought "WT%?" :-\
It is funny now tho! :D
-
Did you have to pay postage again?
-
That's so funny Astarra, Thanks for the laugh. :D
-
Astarra, that is so funny.

Very funny Astarra.
Thanks for the laugh!

Did you have to pay postage again?
Unfortunately yes!! :-))'

The look on her face was priceless!! :D
-
The poor kid ;D
-
Oh Astarra Lol.

Glad it is not only me!!! :-))
-
Haha Astarra and Kimmyh I think you both need a good night's sleep :D :D :D
-
Maybe we do Yvette!! :D
-
I have tears rolling down my face - astarra you crack me up. I mean that as a compliment. There is nothing like a good belly laugh to brighten the spirits. :o
-
My DH laughed so hard when I told him... :D
-
Astarra I had a member of the car club do that when I was treasurer. He insisted he had paid. He then got it in the mail, he had addressed it to himself😃😃😃😃😃😃
-
;D ;D ;D ;D Not just me then! LOL ;D
-
Awesome idea, I suspect I'll join in for next year :)
-
I'll hold you to that Rob ;)
