Title: The trip!

Well today is the day of packing. We have finished the planning. I'm sure all ex teachers will understand that I need to plan. It doesn't mean we stick to the plan, I just need a rough idea.

I'm so excited for you.  I hope you have a wonderful trip, and I'm looking forward to your photos too. DH organised our trip, and I wasn't allowed to plan anything. I found that really hard, but we had a great trip   Mind you, I had the map on my lap a lot of the time.

The post it's are stop over points CP. For one or more nights.
MJ  we aren't going near Kalgoorlie, the post it's just do lots of overlapping.

We are all packed up now and will leave in the morning. Probably not till round 9 after the traffic calms down. We are doing it in easy stages. The holiday starts the minute we leave so it will be morning tea stops etc. such a lovely change after driving every where quickly when we were working.  ES I still have my map handy at all times. I also have the 'bible handy. It is called Camps 6. It had maps, free camps, dump points and all sorts of valuable information in it. Even GPS points for each place. I love that when we travel like this I have absolutely nothing round my feet, even my bag goes on the floor in the back.

were all going on a summer holiday.................................

no more working for a week or two.     (well, maybe a bit longer! ;D)
Fun and laughter on our summer holiday,
no more worries for me or you,
for a week or two.

We're going where the sun shines brightly
we're going where the sea is blue.
we've all seen it on the movies,
now let's see if it's true.

Everybody has a summer holiday
doin' things they always wanted to
So we're going on a summer holiday,
to make our dreams come true
for me and you.
for me and you.

Well we have pulled over for the night. It was quite early to pull over but quite enough for the first day.we have stopped at a bush camp called Koorarawalyee. Great name.  When we pulled in about half an hour ago there was no one here.. Now the eighth van has just pulled in. It looks like a busy night. It is 67 km east of Southern Cross, we were amazed to find that 3G works here.

Our van is the one you can see the door of.  You'll soon be bored with seeing it.

CP I peeked at your instagram photos.

This is a cute little wildflower we saw between Southern Cross and Coolgardie. We"re in Norseman now. Travelled about 280 km today. A very easy run. We stopped for a while in Coolgardie to take some photos for the forum. Some of the windflowers we saw today were beautiful. Coolgardie is where gold was first found in WA. At Fly flat. It was nt very profitable and they then found lots in Kalgoorlie.
This is the pipe line that was built by CY O'Connor in the early 1900's to take water to Kalgoorlie. It was a massive engineering feat.(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/09/yme2egud.jpg)
These are some of the old buildings in Coolgardie, they are really beautiful. Also some buildings that are no longer in use. The town is almost a ghost town. I thought you. Ay like this photo of one of the two hotels that still run in town. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/09/heqedasa.jpg)
Norseman is also a gold mining town. It used to be fairly prosperous but now has mainly fly in fly out workers and is a shadow of its former self. Gold was discovered here in 1894 when a horse called Norseman was found to have a gold piece stuck in his hoof. That started the rush here. Here is Norseman the horse.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/09/ymymarys.jpg). A statue of him I should say.
We went up to the decline where the gold is mined. It goes about 3km under ground. This is the entrance to it.(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/09/ava5uqab.jpg)
This photo is of the tailings from the gold mining over the many years. It is massive. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/09/e7eqy7a8.jpg)

Tomorrow we head out where there is no coverage for at least one day. I'll keep doing photos but try not to do the same as ES did.
Here endeth the history lesson.

Very interesting cookie, am enjoying all the facts. Love those shops too, you could imagine them done up as trendy little boutique style. Doesn't look like they'd get the passing traffic tho  :-))

Wonderful.  I really enjoyed that.   The buildings are really lovely what a shame they all aren't being used.  Wouldn;t it be great if they could restore them and have them as they were in their heyday like a trip into the past when it was all hussell and bussell.

Thank you. Xx. I can just imagine camel teams turning round in Coolgardie. The street is so wide. It is an amazing town, but is dying, if not dead. Kalgoorlie has a lot of interesting old buildings too. That will have to be another trip.

We are now in SA. We crossed the border this morning and at the moment are about 17km from Penong, which is about 73 km from Ceduna. I'll try to put in some photos and hopefully explain what they are. We gained 21/2 hours in time today! Yesterday we travelled from Norseman to a lovely bush camp east of Madura. It was freezing overnight.  We travelled 523km yesterday. We saw lots of snakes and dead Roos on the road. There are also heaps of trucks, usually road trains.
This is what the landscape is like when you first leave Norseman. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/11/yse9ymu8.jpg)
Then it turns into this.
At Madura you come down onto a coastal plain and travel along there with small hills on your left for round 200 or so Km.
Then at Eucla you go back up again off the coastal plain.
This was our first sight of The Great Australian Bight. It is very very beautiful.
This is what it looks like on the actual Nullabor Plain. It means 'no trees' and is SA.
When you come off the Nullabor the trees come back and then it slowly becomes grain country.

Tomorrow we go into Ceduna and have to go through a fruit/Vegie check and can take nothing in. We had steak for dinner with both veggies and salad.
Off now to get a peek at the forum.

Welcome to SA.
The weather was shocking today. We actually had snow in the mid north and at Mt Lofty. Brrrr. It's supposed to get better ;D, and then worse. >:( it was beautiful last week, but spring has run away and winter has descended again.
The bite is spectacular - did you see any whales?
I made the kids scoff all the fruit and veggies in the van before we went through the quarantine checkpoints.
We didn't see many snakes on the road - mainly stumpy lizards or wombats on the SA side of the border and Roos on the WA side.
Except for the Roos that jumped out at us when we were off the main highwy

No we didn't go in and see the whales Sue. We also saw a bustard or wild turkey west of Nullabor. I just thought I would add this photo. This is doing it the hard way. We saw 2 different cyclists. I don't know if they are sensible or silly.

I would have to say sensible. Just getting around in their preferred mode. Depending on how many times you intend to cross the nullabor in your life, I would tend to opt for aeroplane in most cases.

PS. Your windscreen is very clean - where are the bugs?

Well here we are in Ceduna. It is really a lovely day, the breeze has come up but still lovely. We only travelled about 100km or less today. We were checked to see if we were carrying any fruit or veggies as we came into Ceduna. Ceduna has grain, gypsum, salt, mineral sands and  fishing  they have oysters here but I am not an oyster lover  It has a lovely new Foodland where we were able to stock up on fruit and veggies. We went for a drive round and had a look as we didn't do that last year. t

This is the grain silos here.

A view of Denial Bay which Ceduna sits on.
The town before Ceduna is Penong. It is only very small but is known for all the windmills it has. What they have done is put lots of mills onto the one water stream as water was hard to get. Seeing all the mills is quite impressive.  Tomorrow we move on a little to Streaky Bay.

We are in Streaky Bay tonight. It is very beautiful. We travelled about 150km but 50 or so of that was sight seeing. We went out to Cape Bauer after we dropped the van. It is quite lovely. We saw Hally's beach.
The caravan park is right on the foreshore. We're about 20 metres from the waters edge.

Today we moved from Streaky Bay to Coffin Bay. The first part of the trip was through wheat country, then further on it seemed to change countryside, even though grains  are still being grown. I loved Murphy's haystacks. We also stopped and looked at some dry rock fences. They were so clever to do that. They were done round 1850 and earned 10/- for a chain and a good worker could do 2 chain a day.  We travelled about 300km today, I think. This is oyster country, but I am not an oyster fan. We also stopped off at a tiny wood fired bakery and I bought a yummy loaf. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/14/ybuqaga8.jpg)

Dry rock fences made me laugh! They are called dry stone walls in UK.
This is so interesting, thanks again.

Where I live was a former quarry and full of red rock so a lot of houses here have dry red rock walls. I watched one man with a front end loader do all the work in the estate. He was amazing how he tossed huge rocks around to get the just right shape to match.  I'll take a pic and insert it here later.

When I was 12 I went to my friends house who lived on a farm, and her mum drove us to a place where there was tree by the side of a road. It was sundown and so we picked what we could and ate them in the car on the way home. I didn't particularly like them that much,  and it appears that I ate more unripe green ones than ripe red. Woke up suddenly in the middle of the night *blurgh* with no warning. Will never touch them again with a 10 ft barge pole.

That was a lesson learnt early on in life CP - if we eat too much or the wrong things, we pay for it one way or another.

I had a good laugh at that CP.  to this day I have never found one that didn't have grubs under the skin. I don't like them much either. I just thought they would be interesting.

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments. We are in Port Lincoln at the moment for the night. A big trip of 40 or so km. I haven't taken many photos as yet. Back later when it gets dark.

We moved from Coffin Bay Port Lincoln today, about 40 km. before we left I managed to get a photo of the oyster beds as the tide was out.

We've done a bit of shopping for fruit and veggies and bought some lovely whiting fillets here. DH wasn't impressed as he is used to catching them but they looked lovely.

We're in Whyalla now for a couple of sleeps. We had a lovely drive up from Port Lincoln. Called in at Tumby Bay, Port Neil and had lunch and bought some oysters in Cowell. I tried an oyster there and although I still didn't like it, the flavour was incredible. We had, oysters kilpatrick with the ones we bought and they were lovely.

Port Neil is lovely ES. All those places along there are beautiful. Today we have had a little R&R. we went up to the hill and had a look from there. I think it is Hummock Hill. We also drove round and looked at lots of things. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/17/8e8u2u7a.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/17/7y9ujata.jpg)

Today we moved from Port Broughton down the Yorke peninsular to Yorketown. We called at Kadina, and Wallaroo.. They have a history of copper mining. Down at the place where the ferry comes in we got talking to a lady walking her dog and she was able to tell us some of the history of the town. We saw the chimney of the old smelter. And a ruin from it. We then moved on to Moonta and Maitland. Lots of very old houses and buildings round these places. Lovely to see. Plenty of grain crops too. We recognised wheat, oats, barley, canola and faba beans. We are stopping the night at Yorketown. It is a lovely little town. The caravan park is very small but the gardens and lawn are beautiful. Ruins of the old smelter in Wallaroo. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/19/pajezy4a.jpg). This is one of the older buildings with a lovely wheat crop. Today we moved from the friendly, gorgeous Yorketown to Ardrossen .. We stopped for an early coffee at Stansbury, a very pretty place. Then on to Port Vincent which was gorgeous. Well here we are in Adelaide until next Sunday morning. This afternoon we went for a drive to find Haigh's.. DD has given me an order for chocolate from there; we then went for a drive down to Glenelg but it was very busy so we just kept driving. We then googled and found a food shop near the caravan park ( Mitchum Square) and picked up some food. With the help of the GPS we then found our way back to the caravan park for some R&R..
Nearly forgot, when we pulled in here heaps of Model T cars went by. Of course as soon as we set up we had to go and look!
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/21/vusu6a6e.jpg) This was visiting the park. You can just see us back under the trees. It is an Austin 7. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/21/ape5aqyz.jpg)
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/21/ujapaqej.jpg). DH has a ute to build as project 3. He has taken a shine to this one and thinks he will make his like this. This is a Model T but his will be a Model A.. They will look very similar.

Thank you all. This morning we slept in and did the washing, then went and filled the car. By then it was time for lunch so we came back to camp. During the afternoon we went to,the Marion shopping centre as DH needed to go to Dick Smith as our tv aerial packed it in. At the park here it is fine as we have a cable for tv but when we move on we need an aerial   He couldn't get one.
From there we went down to Glenelg. My goodness it has grown so much since we were there..( quite a few years) So much high rise now.

ES tomorrow we go to Haighs chocolates for a tour and a buy up for DD. we also plan to go up and spend some time in the hills, looking round. DH was based at Woodside. Of course we are busy on Saturday.  :)
I left the iPad at home this afternoon so I don't have any photos of the ocean etc at Glenelg.

You,can still take a photo  and when you have  wifi you can send  stuff.

I am waiting for my first bill to see just how much  I can send/ receive  for 1 GByte  included in my plan. But I have it restricted  to wi fi only for now.

Anyway beggers  can't be choosers and we are so enjoying your trip. I hope the return is as smooth as the  the getting there.

Gert, I have a 1 GByte allowance on my iphone, this month I have only used 23% that included thethering my ipad to my iphone, while i was away, I read the forum on my phone and other stuff most days at work. I was quite surprised how little I had used when I checked online earlier today.

That is good to know Jen thanks.

I have a 12 GB $150.00. One year sim on my iPad. I bought it in Jan, use it all the time when out  and still have.about 90 bucks to spend 10 months later!

It would be cheaper to tether my iPhone to my iPad . Wonder if that is possible?

In any case  I have not had to use my phone for the Internet using 3 or 4G yet

I am getting excited about the rumours of a new mini iPad.

Gert, that's what I do. My iPad is wifi only, so when I want to use my iPad when I'm away from home, I just tether my iPad to my iPhone. I often read the forum on my iPad when my DD is at swimming training. I had a problem when I went to Margaret River as I'd changed my phone provider and they hadn't enabled tethering for me. It was easy to fix as soon as I got home!

What I meant to say ES, and thank you for noting it is that it would be much much cheaper to tether my iPhone to my iPad . Not share if it can work that way or everyone would do it because 12 GB for $150 is pretty cheap with a year to use it.

I will change my post. Silly me.

It is Hally. At least equal to, or better than Lindt.

It is really lovely chocolate Hally - and the best thing is when you buy something you get a free tasting  ;D

From where I work, if I have to walk to either the pharmacy, Rundle Mall, the Uni or Royal Adelaide Hospital, I have to walk past the Haighs store  8)

Cookie, sounds like you are having a wonderful time in Adelaide.  Are you going to try to fit in a visit to Beerenberg?  Although I suppose with a TMX you can make yourself jams just as nice as theirs.

Sure are Karen. I love their stuff, also going to Maggie Beers and  Angus Park. A few years ago when we were here I ended up taking so much stuff home. It's fun though.
We plan on heading up into the hills on Thursday and Friday. Then will do Maggie Beers when we are staying in Nuriootpa. Oops will be heading upwards to the hills on Saturday too!

Enjoy Angas Park then - it will most likely be the last time you can visit it.  There was something in the newspaper a few days ago about it being bought by a Chinese consortium who are going to close it down (non-profitable) and centralise all the dried fruit processing somewhere in Victoria.  A very sad day for a South Aussie icon  :(

Karen I think the tourist shop in Angaston will still operate, the factory part is moving to Victoria.  We were up in the Barossa 12 months ago and bought up at this shop - not long later we heard it had been sold so I don't know why it has taken so long to make the news.  Maggie's restaurant hasn't operated since 1993 Gretchen, when were you there?  She now has what is called a 'Farm Shop' and instead of set lunchtime meals she has what she calls 'picnic fare'.  Here (http://www.maggiebeer.com.au/visit-us/menu) is her menu - right up your alley I would think.

I love browsing her shop, usually buy the beetroot relish.  It was great to come home and make my own bread 'bark' (using Chookies savoury flatbread recipe (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=7336.0)) as that was $10 something for just a few pieces of 'bark'.  Chookies is virtually identical to what Maggie sells.  You have to be a foodie I think to appreciate being in her farm shop, not cheap in there but a wonderful experience.

Oh that is good that the tourist shop will stay open - although it is still a shame that the factory is moving to Victoria.

I love Maggie Beer's shop too.  My favourite is her burnt fig jam ..... never lasts long in this house.

Oh boy you had to say it didn't you  Judy. 1993. OMG!  That long ago?  It was longer ago than that  as I remember my friend and I went with her mother and son. Her mother is now  91 and her son  must be  30 something. Yikes. Seems like just a few years ago.

Yes that menu is right  up my alley. It would be hard to choose.

While you're in the Barossa cookie you should get some Linke's garlic mettwurst. OMG I love that stuff - the foodland in Tanunda sells it. There's a really cute little farmers market in angaston on Saturdays (I think) if you're around then, all the locals go - it's next to Vintners restaurant.
My friend went out with Maggie Beer's daughter for a while there...

It was a lovely afternoon with Cookie and her DH - even though Cookie & I had never met you would never have known.  Typical of any forum get together, a bond formed before you actually meet.

I had been told we could pass as sisters, not sure about that but we obviously like the same colours and check out the natural grey patches in the front of our hair.

Thanks for coming over Cookie & Horace, I felt privileged to meet you both.

Cookie and Judy,  SO glad you have caught up.  What a day you would have had.  Talk talk.  Love the photo. ;D ;D ;D

We sat next to Maggie Beer at breakfast in Mildura,  a couple of years ago. ( well at the next table)  She is just as nice as she looks and a most generous person.
The Bark, that judy talks about I copied from the stuff that she sells.
We visited her Restaurant many years ago and I still remember the Pumpkin Ravioli with sage butter.  Gert was probably there!!!!!
I belong to her club,  anyone can join and have access to her recipes.

Like everyone else I would have loved to have been there at this historic meeting.

This is at Beerenberg.

I joined Maggie Beer's club too. I also get newsletters from Careme Pastry. They have lovely recipes, although I usually make my own. I'm sure Careme is lovely but it is so expensive at home.

We had a lovely day up in the Adelaide hills today. Went up a very curly curvy road. It had Sturt in the street name. Lovely views. Went up to the Mount Lofty lookout but the city was under cloud. Drove through lots of the lovely littlemvillages up there. We ended up in Woodside where DH did some of his national service 40 years ago. We went to the Melba chocolate factory (you can never have too much chocolate) and meandered over to Hahndorf. On the way we had lunch at the Lobethal bakery in Woodside. Walked round Hahdorf for quite a while, calling at Ottos's bakery for dessert. Next stop was Beerenberg where they make lots of delicious jams, chutneys and all sorts of other things.  A lovely day.

Cookie. I am only new to posting, so tend not to say too much at the moment but am loving the photos of your trip, how exciting. I have also downloaded the Instagram App, so now have to learn how to use it.

May I ask its it a Jayco van that you have as we have just purchased one & will be taking it out for the first time next weekend (only for the weekend). Also, if you don't mind me asking, when you are free camping our wouldn't be able to use Thermy as you don't have power, would you?

Cheers,

Hi Jonvic. I'm glad  you're enjoying the trip. We've done heaps of travelling since we retired, and quite a lot before, so I have enjoyed sharing this one with the help of my iPad and how to use it advice from forum members.
Yes, our van is a Jayco.. It is 18 foot long and a pop top. We bought it in 2005 and it has done about 80,000km since then with us.
You are right about free camping and thermomix.  We have a generator, a Honda 20i, and this is adequate to use for the thermothingy.
DH says you need 'clean' power and should run the thermothingy by itself off the generator.. Don't even have the van plugged in.
Usually when we free camp we have grills or previously prepared food.

Where are you off to in your van? Does your van have shower and toilet, they are very handy for free camping ?
Enjoy your weekend.

Today we went up to the National Motor Museum at Birdwood. DH really enjoyed it and I did too. As I said on a previous post I didn't realise that it was round 54km each way. Still it was fun.
I loved some of the old cars and lots of the not so old ones brought back memories for me.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/26/era4e4u4.jpg) A model A of course, like our 3.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/26/de4yqyha.jpg) I just loved it, couldn't help myself.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/26/e9a3ajas.jpg) I'm fond of Porsche 911 too.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/26/5a9ydygy.jpg). On the way back DH spotted a koala in a tree. It is the first time we have ever seen one in the 'wild'. We walked back down the road to take a photo, it was freezing. I hope you can see him. (hint-he's on the right).

Today we left the lovely Adelaide and moved south to Victor Harbor. (that isn't my bad spelling, that is how they spell harbour).
There were a few largish hills coming down here. The car certainly got a work out towing the van..when the van is loaded it weighs close to 2000 kg.  lucky the car is about 2500 kg.
We stopped for coffee at the top of a hill, there was a lookout there and it was beautiful. Went through lots of wine growing country. It is only about 80 km. after we set up camp we went driving. We heard that the fairy penguins are not as plentiful on Granite Island. ( just off Victor Harbor). Apparently they have done some development on the island and blasted, and of course the little penguins lived among the rocks. They have also had trouble with youths hurting them. It was ever so sad. Lovely pictures! You would have had nice weather there today.
I had such a lovely day yesterday -It it so nice to catch up with each other in person.  Karen's kitchen is to die for, and so is the garden and Bush that surrounds it.  Her boys are gorgeous and the food was delicious. Karen kindly gave me some of her raspberry muffins to take home, and I ate one today and it was devine. I would have eaten one yesterday, but everything was so tasty and I just couldn't fit one in.  ;D

So glad that everyone had a good time - I certainly loved meeting up with everyone!

Cookie, hope you and DH enjoy Victor and surrounds - it is a beautiful part of SA.

I have posted the recipe for the raspberry muffins in the non-TMX recipe section - I have made them in the TMX, but cant seem to get the same texture as I do when using beaters.

Today we drove over to Goolwa and on to Hindmarsh island. We had a lovely day. It was great to see water ion the Murray River.
We had taken a picnic lunch so spent all day exploring. We saw an unusual house in Port Elliott.

LOL. I am sitting under a tree in the Nuriootpa caravan park and the silly tree is dropping specks of gum onto the iPad screen. Solution.........move, but I can't be bothered.

We came up from Victor Harbor this morning. We came via Strathalbyn, then onto Mt Barker and through the hills again. It was a bit windy ( as in twists and turns) but DH said he didn't mind. It was very pretty.
Since we've been here we have been for a drive to Angaston and Tanunda. Also all round Nuriootpa.
I think it was deedub who suggested we try Linke's garlic metwurst. I could nt get any at the Tanunda Foodland but I did get some at the butcher in Nuriootpa, as well as some other German sausages. I'm sure we'll consume all that I bought and have to go back for more.

Deedub the garlic met wurst is lovely. I'm going to buy some more tomorrow.

CC today has been hot but every other day has been lovely. Sometimes the mornings have been very cold. We are hoping that it cools down a bit for when we do the big drive over the Nullabor. It isn't fun if it is too hot.

Well today was our last day of goofing round and sight seeing. Tomorrow we go to Port Augusta and then begin the long trek home. We can't take any fruit or vegetables over the border into WA so I must work out exactly how much I need until then.
Today we went to Kapunda, then Eudunda and back to Nuriootpa. We went to Maggie Beers farm shop and had afternoon tea. It was very nice. I bought a couple of things there. I love her verjuice but I can get it at home for the same price.

Today we moved from Nuriootpa to Port Augusta. The drive leaving the Barossa valley was very pretty and it was also lovely through the Clare Valley. The rolling hills round Kapunda and Crystal Brook are also beautiful.
We had the wind as a cross wind today, hopefully it is not against us as we go home . Towing the van it uses more fuel. It cost us $211 to fill up this afternoon.
DH was VERY ( yes I am shouting) bad today. He said we had enough fuel to get here, no worries. Then I noticed about 10 km out that the fuel light was on.  I wasn't very impressed. It's his job to keep an eye on that. Hopefully we haven't sucked up any gunk from the bottom of the tank. Time will tell.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/01/6u2agapa.jpg). Just out of Nuriootpa.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/01/by5y2eza.jpg). We've noticed this growing wild all over SA.

We're in Ceduna for tonight. We drove for about 7 hours and decided to call it a day. The weather is cool and overcast. In fact we had a tiny bit of rain. We passed through quite a few wheat farming towns today. They are harvesting the crops here. Further south they don't look asa though they will be ready for a while.
Tomorrow we head out where there is round 200 km between roadhouses. Still a fair bit of traffic though. We were surprised today, asa we didn't see many trucks.
Thank you Judy for helping to make our trip so special and spoiling us. Thanks to Karen and her family for the lovely day, to ES, Trudy, Katie and Amanda for the chats etc. a bid thanks to Amanda for helping with photos. I haven't tried it much yet but will when we get home.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/02/qahudame.jpg). A couple of over width vehicles on the road today.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/02/ubuzape3.jpg). Iron Knob. Some of you may remember learning about it at school.

Well we are in Norseman for tonight. The last couple of days we have done close to 1200km. We did about 600 each day. We saw lots of dead wombats again, very sad. Also saw a big, dead camel today about 100km east of Norseman. It has been quite warm travelling until about 1 pm today when we came into rain. It is still just over 700 km home. We will break it into 2 days otherwise you hit the heavy traffic after a long day driving.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/04/uje3uza4.jpg). Isn't this lovely. There were 2 vintage Bentleys travelling back to Perth.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/04/se3ebave.jpg). This is our GPS.. On the top left ( at the bottom) you can see the current time, and then on the right you can see the time we will arrive at our destination. Very funny, as we will arrive before the current time. It was as we were coming into the WA time zone.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/04/uva8e3ad.jpg). Fruit check at the border.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/04/e8eqa9y3.jpg). This is taken just near Madura.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/04/2a7y2e7a.jpg). A burned out truck. Poor blighted, way out in the middle of nowhere.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/04/mudesu8a.jpg). Our bush camp.

Thanks for your comments on the trip. We have appreciated them. Even DH now says 'hey, that is an iPad shot for the forum'.

Took me a while to work out the Bentley picture Cookie.  He looks as if he is driving in the same direction as you but on the wrong side of the road then I realised he must be coming towards you :-))

So you will be home tomorrow or Tuesday?

The Bentley had just passed us Judy. They can move for old cars. But then they had to fuel up pretty often.
We will get home Tuesday morning. We thought we'd camp out tomorrow night and leave about 200 km to do Tuesday morning.
We have sticky sap from the trees we were under in Nuriootpa all over the car and van. We will be able to scrub it off before we put the van away in the shed.

Cookie your DH is about old cars and mine was into war museums (when we did a 5 month campervan trip as far as Cook in Qld 21 years ago).  I stopped at every single museum I came across all the way up north until one day he told me I didn't have to stop at any more as he had seen enough.  Yes!!!  The things we do for our DH's and as I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in war museums that was music to my ears

I thought that was funny the Ettamogah Pub being in WA then Mr Google told me it is now a chain. The first one was a figment of the imagination of cartoonist ken Maynard and the first one built was in Albury NSW.

Gert, I was sure this pub was in Albury as we saw it on our way through with our DS quite a few years back now.  When Cookie mentioned it was in W.A. I thought perhaps I had imagined it with old age etc  :D :D :D
Now I know there are more of them.

Glad you made it home safely Cookie. It didn't take you long to get a loaf of home-made bread baking!

It was lovely to meet you & your DH here in Adelaide.

This morning DH admitted how nice it was to get a decent loaf of bread again. He actually said he hadn't realised shop bread was so bad. ;D ;D

There's no place like home. Of course DH would say that, I've tasted your bread and it's the best Cookie.  :D
