Title: slow cook/beef/steam question
Post by: curly66 on October 04, 2012, 06:00:35 am
Was wondering if anyone could tell me if you can 'slow cook' by steaming stewing beef for a couple of hours rather than using the bowl?
Want to make pot pies and want to make the pie mix first with some chunky beef but don't want it broken up and was curious as to whether slow cooking can include slow steaming as a method..  has anyone tried?

thankyou for the quick response!
so you suggest having the stewing steak in a dish rather than just in the varoma bowl itself?

curly66, here are some examples of meat cooked in the varoma.

BBQ varoma steak (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3500.0)

Roasting meat in the varoma (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?action/topic=5692.15)

Sous-vide cooking (http://thermomix-er.blogspot.com.au/2009/04/using-varoma-to-gently-cook-meat.html)

I have never cooked the cheaper cuts of meat in the varoma for pies or casseroles as I have no problem cooking it in the bowl.  If you cut your meat 4 - 5cm dice and use reverse/speed slow or speed 1, it should keep it's shape.  If you come up with a successful method of slow cooking your meat in the varoma or try Uni's suggestion of cooking it in a casserole dish, please do make sure you make notes and post your recipe on the forum so that others may try it.
