Oh boy got your attention again. What next for me eh? Well after having my ANNUAL mammogram I got a call back for a small lump near the scar from my previous surgery to remove a Cancerous lump from my breast.
Thank you Breast Screen Queensland for picking this up. I am now in the coffee shop downstairs from the screening unit after having an ultra sound to determine it was just a fatty lump. Well imagine that. I am full of fatty lumps and not only in my breasts. This one was nothing at all.
So this is just another warning to those who have had breast Cancer. There are a few of us survivors here who need to remember their mammograms. There are many more of us here who need to get started on their bi annual check ups especially if they have a mother who has had breast cancer.
So I am having a celebratory cup of coffee and hoping all you gals will make that appointment. I especially hope those who live in remote areas to not neglect this important health check and make sure they get their doctors to book them into the next remote clinic.
I have has two health scares in three weeks and got lucky. What will be the third and will I survive? You bet I will.
Thank goodness I had my Kindle with me. Long wait.

Gert, you've got to stop doing this.
Great it's only a fatty lump - happens as we get older, fatty, lumpy breasts.
Excellent reminder girls - get yourself a bosom buddy and go get that mammogram together.
-
Oh my goodness Gert so glad it turned out to be just a fatty lump you are not having a good time of it atm :-\ Hopefully there will not be a third thing. How long ago did you have breast cancer?
-
Gert, you nearly gave me a heart attack! So glad it was good news. Take care, will have a coffee with you.
Marie :-*
-
I had breast cancer in 1997 . A lumpectomy followed by radiation therapy.
Just as well cancer is rare in bums. Imagine a bumOgramme.. There would have to be some pretty big machines and we would have bum buddies to call on. Talk about fatty lumps. Oh My!
Gert
-
:D :D :D Thanks for the reminder Gretchen, I always make follow up appointments when I receive my letter from the Breast Screen SA.
We go for our mammograms and just hope we don't get told there is something not quite right but those who have had lumps/breasts removed must be a little more anxious than those who have never had a problem. Glad you are enjoying that coffee :-* :-*
-
Haha Gert glad you still have your sense of humour. You take care :-* :-*
-
Oh you scared me Gert, as long as you are ok.
-
Oh you scared me Gert, as long as you are ok.
Not much scares me Robyn . Thank goodness for that or I would be a mess with a heart attack AND more cancer all in a month!
Did you get into town on Mon?
Gert
-
:-* take care of yourself, Gretch
-
No we were too tired, This saturday we are coming down.
-
You are certainly giving us plenty of scares and food for thought this month, Gert, but so very relieved to see that you are OK. Your words of advice re preventative examinations are wise.
I always go for my mammogram when I get notification - as I go for regular pap smears and colonoscopies as well. I always say the short periods of discomfort are much better than the alternative.
PS. Glad to read that you have your kindle with you this time!
-
Thank God is was nothing worse than a fatty lump Gert! You really need to stop scaring us like this :o

Gert
That is what my mum had late last year. She finished her treatment in May. We have our fingers crossed that nothing will come back.
I don't think I need to worry about mammograms for another few years. I hope not anyway ???
-
Thank God Gert that all was OK. Go out and enjoy yourself, you sure deserve it after your two scares!!!!!!!!!
-
CUT IT OUT Gert, stop scarring us. Everyone of us should get out and enjoy every day. I'll start tomorrow I have to go out in the garden and TRY and dig out a tree stump.
-
How is your chemistry AB? A wee bit of this a tad of that and boom there it goes.
Amy probably not yet but worth getting an exam from time to time. We all hope your mum does not have a Recurrence.

-
Glad to hear it was just a fatty lump Gert. Time for a champers to celebrate! ;D
-
Enjoy your good stuff Gert :o :o
-
Gert you have had a bad run in the last few weeks but thankfully with positive outcomes.. :)
Enjoy a nice bottle of bubbly and celebrate life :)
You have given us all a few scares but soooo happy that everything is fine :D
-
Glad you got the good stuff Gert. :)
-
Oh whew!
Okay, I haven't had a mammogram since I was 35 after mum was diagnosed. It was so horrific, I never went back. I've just received my letter as the van is coming to Katanning in October. You made me do it, I'm booking an appt.
NOT looking forward to it.
-
The things us girls have to do....
-
MJ good on you. I am sending you good vibes :)
-
Yes being a man is easy :o :o
-
Glad you are OK Gert... :-*
-
Gert, you've got to stop doing this.
Advice well taken and so glad everything is ok!! But ditto!! You're scaring the *%&^$% out of us all!! :D
-
Yes being a man is easy :o :o
You wouldn't say that if you worked in a urology ward.
-
Maybe Mich we have to go through more overall than men eg each month etc
-
Very true.
-
Gert I am only skimming the forum on 3G and you certainly caught my eye and made me stop. THANK GOODNESS ALL IS OK. I hope your pap smears are up to date.
MJ you are a naughty, naughty girl. I'm glad you have made the appointment.
I was with DH the other day when he had THAT examination. Afterwards I wished that the doctors could get that sort of information from females with the pap smear. He was able to tell size, smoothness and stuff which I thought was pretty good for a few minutes of discomfort.
With all Gert's scares I have been good and rung about my bumoscopy as it is well and truly due. I have something to look forward to when we return from SA.
-
Congrats on a close shave Gert - may they continue!
I'm all up to speed with mammograms, pap smears, skin checks but have been dragging my heels about getting to the bum doctor. I soooo hate the prep for a colonoscopy. Too busy with the conference organisation at this stage, but probably need to make it a present for myself in the new year. :-\
Gert - have you seen the new research on the impact regular mushroom intake can have on cancer? It's very interesting.

All the tests available now are so valuable. I'm so glad we have them even if they are uncomfortable. They must save thousands of lives every year.
But my mum and I are very frustrated at my SD because he threw his bowel screening kit in the bin without even opening it >:( >:( >:(

This made my day MJ. A mammogram is nothing these days. No film. All digital. About 7 minutes all up. Your breast is squashed nor more than a few seconds and the discomfort is minimal.
Now that is sorted is your PAP smear up to to date! LOL!

I loved urology sessions in the OT!

That is the silliest thing I ever heard. Non invasive, totally private and so easy even a man can do it ALL BY HIMSELF? . That is selfish and stupid to boot. Tell him Gert said so Amy.
And every taxpayer pays for it. Shame on him for wasting it.

Very interesting Amanda . Thank goodness Imlove mushrooms and we eat them frequently.
I love the idea of a gift to yourself of a colonoscopy. The prep,is not so bad these days. My daughter has one every 6 months for her Crohns.

You know whats even more silly Gert? He has a strong family history of bowel cancer. He just says he doesn't want to know >:( >:( >:( F***!!!
That is selfish and stupid to boot. Tell him Gert said so Amy.
I will tell him as soon as he gets home from work. And I'll tell him no more cakes until he does it!! >:(

Gert
Urology would be a lot better when the pt's are asleep.
I like rad prosties but hate TURP'S. All that irrigation and big catheters....the worse is the men are fiddling where they shouldn't be and then have to touch your arm or hand while asking you a question...YUCK!

It is a bit of a head in the sand attitude Amy but your SD does have the right to decline a test, even though it's a simple one.
He does have to stay off red meat for three days before getting three samples - my DH is due for another one but hasn't stayed off red meat for 3 days yet :-))
-
I know DFM... but especially after mum has just had a big scare with her cancer, it just makes me angry! And sad too, because I know mum is frustrated :(
No worries about the red meat, he will be living on baked beans and toast until he gets his act together!

Well a vegetarian diet is a preventative against bowel cancer. :D

SD will be thinking "now whose been influencing Amy and putting a bee in her bonnet? Must be that forum she's on all the time"
-
At the end of the day Amy you can only advise (as much as it is a frustration, especially with loved ones) the choice is up to SD.
-
Gert your headline scared the b****** out of me.
-
Good to read you are OK Gert. :-* :-* Up to date with mammogram and had a pap test last week, just waiting for the result. :)
I'm so pleased MJ you have booked yourself an appointment for the mammogram. :)
-
I have my bosom buddy Jane, we do our mammies every 2 yrs. Don't need the pap smears - don't have a cervix ;D
-
Same as me Michele, nice one to not have to have ;D
-
Gert, glad you are OK. Nasty fright. I think you have had your 3. Heart, Sour Dough and now this horrid little lump. MJ, you must follow up your test. No breast C, in our family, but I had it. I have all the test when required, and HATE them all. You just have to do it.
-
Right on chookie. Woman up !
Gert
-

I agree mcmich.
Gert
-
Mcmich and JD, Me too, as of early this year, yeh...
-
I think everything happens for a reason and Gert's scare and her willingness to share it is helping a lot of people to remember their mammograms and other tests as well, Thank you Gert.
I am a breast cancer survivor of 20 years and I never need a reminder for my check up, recently on our travels my DH bumped into a lady while he was walking around the campsite who told him she had just been told she had breast cancer and was camping now in case she never got chance again, he told her that I was a survivor and she said I was meant to meet you today because I need reassurance and I was able to chat to her, and I hope help as it is a scary time, :) I thought it amazing that she told DH just on a stroll around a campsite, but it was meant to happen that way xxxx
-
The universe hays mysterious ways of making us sit up and listen to what we need.
You were meant to meet that lady rainbow.
-
Are you around today Gert?
Hope all is OK.
-
I want to say in defence of men that my DH is absolutely fantastic with his health checks.
I don't have to nag or plead. Every 12 months he has blood tests for cholesterol, diabetes, PSA.
He does the bowel screen. Very sensible really. :D
-
Are you around today Gert?
Hope all is OK.
Yes I am. Just playing with my new iPhone.
Gert
-
Glad you are back Gert :)
-
