Thanks fundj, yes do have room in the freezer but hadn't thought of all those things I could do with ricotta. Thanks again
-
Good one Uni, ricotta uses up a lot of milk.
Can you make bechamel, cheese sauce etc & freeze?
H :)

Have spinach growing, were having problems with chooks getting out and they love spinach but have been able to keep them in

I"ve just had a look and it is the same recipe. I will try making it without the cream if thats the way you do it. Everything you make looks really great.
-
SJ if u have the cream use it and it best to follow a recipe if u have not made it B4
-
Hi jundj
Just made my first batch, tastes great. Will make up the rest of the milk now.
When I had a good look at the bottles they had about 1/4 of cream on top so just tried the first lot without adding cream.
I guess if you get good milk you don't need the cream added.
This milk came from Jersey cows.

Looks good, sue-jen. shame I live so far away, or I would be over for a taste😃
-
Does the yellow look happen because you used raw milk SueJen, mine is always white as ;)
-
looks really good SJ
I hope u kept the whey
-
Didn't keep whey, so stupid, didn't think.
Guess it is yellow because of being raw.
Drained it on veroma bowl(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/09/16/ena3e5u4.jpg)
-
Just weighed it all, 1.5kilos from 8litres milk and no added cream. Good mornings work, no play. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Stupid not to keep whey though. :( :( :( :(
Will have to get more milk. ;D ;D ;D ;D

It's really been fun Jeninwa, wish you were here. :) :) :) :)
-
Hi Sue, by raw milk do you mean not pasturised?
The ricotta looks really good too.
-
milk straight from the cow mcmich, not pasturised (jersey cows) nice and creamy milk
Ricotta tastes really good too, have citrus ricotta cakes in oven now
-
I get fresh jersey milk from a nearby farm but it is still pasturised.
-
will they give it to you unpasturised?
mine comes from a friend who milks 3 cows, she makes cheese. Sometimes she has too much milk ssoooo....

No, unless you have a friend, it's illegal to sell unpasterised milk. The jersey milk is still really nice.
-
Lucky you SueJen. The ricotta looks lovely.
-
How weird that a deli can sell cigarettes however it's illegal to sell unpasturised milk :-))
-
It is silly isn't it
-
The ricotta was great cookie made citrus ricotta cakes and still have 500 grams left to make spinach and ricotta triangles
-
Hi
Just popped in on my phone.
When we had our cow we used raw milk all the time. Just as milk. I made cheese, a semi hard Caerphilly type, then made ricotta from the whey.
Always made yogurt. None of these things were made with tmx though. Raw milk is good.
-
hi DJ have never used raw milk before but am really loving it now, would really like my own cow.
-
Suejen,
I am so jealous! I would love to get my hands on raw milk, it's so lovely and creamy and tastes amazing. Completely different to homogenised and pasteurised milk. Unfortunately having my own cow in the city is really not an option. :(

I buy a Margaret river one from C*les - I think it's raw ??? - its unhomogenised (well as raw as they'll sell I suppose, but not as raw as straight from the cow
-
If you purchased it at Coles CP it would be pasturised. Illegal to sell unpasturised milk.
Love unhomogenised - Like when I was a kid and the cream is on the top.
-
Yep it's pasteurized
