Title: What to put in a Gift basket
Post by: obbie on September 01, 2012, 07:21:40 am
Ok, so I want to do about 60 small gift baskets.....

Please help me with ideas of what to put in. ;)

I thought.....

lemon butter, or lime butter
Jam
seasoned salt / herb mix
fruit cake
muffins
biscuits of some sort

anyone that can think of something else  ;)

I am doing 60 small baskets for Oldies that don't or can't bake anymore.

Its a present from me...for them.

Thanks, Robyn ;) ;)

I have a couple of oldies that I make sweet chilli sauce for. Just use mild chillis or take out some seeds. 1 has a bottle each week the other monthly

That's nice of you Robyn jam is a good idea what about something like fruit or whatever you have on your property. Where you picking bananas the other day or nuts.

I wouldn't do anything too different Robyn, a lot of the oldies don't do much cooking so I'd go for cakes, muffins, biscuits, jams, tomato sauce, mustard, worcestershire sauce, that type of thing.  Things you know they would eat without introducing them to anything they are not sure of - they would probably end up in the pantry of their adult kids otherwise.  They will really appreciate your kind gesture, well done to you.

Maybe some of Tenina's flavoured sugars?

Or TMX lemon cleaning goo, laundry detergent for non-food items.

Maybe mini banana bread (or similar) loaves, they can be eaten fresh or sliced and frozen  :)

What a thoughtful and kind gesture. How about a couple pieces of Johnro's Cookies and Cream Fudge?

I agree with JD. Keep it simple. Oldies like things that are familiar.
Your lemon butter would be a hit and biscuits. Maybe the chocolates that Dash made for our goodie bag?
Amy's gluten free brownies wer yummy. Amy's housemates had them for breaky.

I would also recommend Rara's cherry bites too. I think Dash put brandy in his :)

What about Chookies Malt Loaf.  I make it using dates and walnuts instead of the dried fruit.  I think oldies would love slices of this with their morning coffee - and I have found it keeps ok for about 5 days.  Bake in small individual loaf tins.

Obbie,  what a thoughtful person you are.  Cookie Nuts and Bolts would be nice,  and 1 mix makes a lot.
