I adapted my favorite old recipes for American biscuits and sausage gravy for Theromix. Warning: This is NOT a diet recipe! :) I also did a first attempt at a demonstration video of this recipe.

Oh, I just hate that white floor!! It's a nightmare to keep clean. Thank you for noticing I actually gave it a scrub before videotaping. lol.
-
Joyce are you using US size measuring spoons ?
-
Love your "Aussie" Apron in this video too!!!! ;) :)
-
So if we translate your recipe to Aussie language Joyce, would we would call that recipe scones with pork sauce? Is that right fellow Aussies. I've not seen scones served like that before but I am expecting many 'different' recipes from your country now that you have joined us. I will follow your blog with interest.
-
Think you are about right JD ... that's what I would call it :)
-
Thanks Kathryn :-*

Joyce, that recipe looks delicious! Being from Texas originally that is comfort food all the way to me!
Gert, The Homesick Texan has a recipe for breakfast sausage which is that style of pork sausage. http://homesicktexan.blogspot.com.au/2008/02/breakfast-sausage-to-begin-day.html (http://homesicktexan.blogspot.com.au/2008/02/breakfast-sausage-to-begin-day.html)

I'm not sure if I could eat that for breakfast, but I know my family would. You are so clever putting up a video, well done.
-
Yep, scones JD. Did you read at the end of her story her Dad enjoyed one with butter and a sweet syrup. Joyce you will have to try one with Jam and cream.

Thank you for all the comments questions! You guys are great! And this is so much fun.
Re: Measuring Spoons
As far as I know, the teaspoon (tsp) and tablespoon (TBL) measure we use in the U.S. is the same as Australia. I have a couple of cookbooks from Australia and they use teaspoon and tablespoon also.
Re: Scones
Yes, the American biscuits are very similar to scones, except that the breakfast version don't have any sugar in them. Also, for an evening meal, we might make biscuits as the bread and make them savory, like with garlic and oregano, or even cheese. Biscuits are so quick and easy because you don't have to wait for dough to rise.
Re: Apron
I got the apron from my grandbabies who live in Dallylup (near Bunbury in W.A.) I got to visit them last Fall and I had a ball in Australia!! Can't wait to visit again soon.
Re: Pork Sausage
The best way I know to describe pork sausage is that it's just pork mince with seasonings added to it. When we eat it as a breakfast meat it comes two ways--fried in patties or fried in skinny links (with casings). You don't need pork sausage to make my recipe. Just grind some pork in TM with the seasonings below for breakfast sausage, and you're good to go.
Here are the seasonings added to pork to make several different kinds of sausage popular in the U.S.:
Breakfast Sausage:
Salt
Pepper
Thyme
Allspice
Garlic
Rubbed sage
Italian Sausage:
Fennel Seed
Anise
Pepper
Red wine
Mexican Chorizo:
Ground chili powder
Cumin
Cinnamon
Onion
Garlic
Red wine
Brats: (simmered in beer then browned up on the barbie)
Marjoram
Coriander
Nutmeg
Celery seed
Milk

Good one Joyce, I can see the Brats SIMMERED IN BEER being very popular over here. As you know most Aussie men love a beer.
-
Joyce a lot of us would have almost driven past your grand babies doorstep last weekend on our way to the weekend retreat. What a small world!
-
Wow, Joyce what great ideas & recipes.
Thank you
Halex :)

I just had to make this. The memories came flooding back.
I made several mistakes as I keep getting distracted. The first thing I did was make the sausage mixture using the recipe sara suggested.http://homesicktexan.blogspot.com.au/2008/02/breakfast-sausage-to-begin-day.html I uses I 900 gms minced pork.
First mistake was I tipped too much white pepper into it. Second mistake tipped too much sage into it. Never mind.
I then followed Joyce's recipe except when adding the flour I forgot to set the temp . Third mistake followed by the fourth mistake. I added the milk and forgot to set the temp. After about 10 minutes of stirring I realised what I had done so added some more flour, put the heat on and kept it a stirring on reverse. Very bad mistake number 5......... But would you believe that after another 15 minutes with the temp actually on the damn thing came together. When I opened the lid there was a small round circle or the flour which had not combined. It looked like a little cake. I have not seen that before. I just picked it off and dumped it.
Also made a mistake when making the biscuits by adding the butter too early. The biscuits did not rise as they hold have but no matter.
I made the rest of the sausage mince into parties.
Delicious meal Joyce. The THERMOTHINGY is very forgiving and my Aussie DH didn't know the difference.
See ifi can insert a pic with Tapatalk. Not as an appealing photo as Joyce but just to show.

I have some pork sausage patties in my freezer. We made biscuits and gravy when my BIL was visiting. I found a recipe online. It was not hard to make just pork mince, sage cloves and some other spices.
-
Gert--I'm so excited you made my recipe!!! That's a first for me. [Smiling from ear to ear.] Re: the biscuits, did you put both baking powder and baking soda in them? Just wondering. :-)
Cook on!!
-
Loved it Joye. I will make it again. Still some gravy in freezer. I did add both but who knows how old they were!!
Thanks for the recipe.
