Title: Copied recipes
Post by: maddy on August 22, 2012, 04:17:31 pm
Am I being a little precious?   ???
http://www.recipecommunity.com.au/recipes/chorizo-and-capsicum-risotto/51870

Although there is a couple of slight alterations, it's almost verbatim of my recipe and instructions I posted here
http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6578.msg86131#msg86131
Got the better of me and I commented.
What do you think?

Isn't this the second time someone has tried to copy your recipes Maddy. >:( >:( I know the first was your Cheese and Bacon Rolls and they even used your photo...cheeky devils.I think you did the right thing and post a comment :) Let's see what happens ;)

I know the first was your Cheese and Bacon Rolls and they even used your photo...cheeky devils.

LOL...yes, using my photo was overstepping the mark  :o
Will be interesting to see if the link to this forum remains  ;)
It just bugged me a little....if I make a variant of someone's recipe, I acknowledge it.

I reckon when you know that people blatantly copy your recipe you really get cheesed off, even though its supposed to be the highest form of a compliment. I mean --- out of all the recipes in the world... I've had that too on that website and I will never post again and never go on it again cos its cheesy and in my opinion its pathetic. They should check for authenticity being a Vorwerk website.

That is the downside to putting anything on the Internet, it is there for all to see and some to copy  >:(

I had someone copying my knitting for a while, even using my descriptions word for word, I didn't find it flattering!

I am pleased that you commented, see how long the post stays up?

Very strange.  I mean, why would they even bother?  I know before I put up my recipe for the baby food comp, I did a quick google search for the recipe to see if there were any thermomix recipes out there already before I put mine up.  It doesn't take long to do that to just check that you're not copying someone else already.

I see she's only a new poster, so maybe she doesn't understand how it all should work yet?

Maddy, I think it is a Bl...y cheek.  Glad you replied.  They should say where it came from and give the developer credit.  Several of mine have been copied by different TMX people without credit.  I think one way around it may be to do what Quirky Jo does and call the recipe,  Maddy's ..........

Maddy is there anything on the recipe communiity on the policy of copying others recipes ? If there is, quote the policy to the offender ! Otherwise maybe start a new topic on copying of recipes, then it might not get buried within other topics.

Love your recipes, my kids favourite all time TMX recipe is "Cheese and Bacon Rolls"

That is really rude, especially the issues that are at V??? Regarding this forum.  I am glad you replied Maddy. As you said Jo has a good idea. I believe she is doing a book.

Well this one is a tad different....as she said to roast the capsicums first (which is really a pointless time consuming step, particularly if smoked paprika is used), there is 4 garlic cloves instead of 2 (which personally I think is way too much), and the rice, water content is halved....but apart from that ingredients and instructions the same.
That's why I decided to leave a comment.

Love your recipes, my kids favourite all time TMX recipe is "Cheese and Bacon Rolls"

Thank you Debbie  :)  but if you notice, I did list the source of the recipe inspiration  ;)

I also noticed that there's no way to report the recipe. I think that's irresponsible of the company - you need to be able to report copyright and offensive material, especially in an environment where people are encouraged to share recipes.

I have contacted them before regarding copied recipes, and the cheese & bacon rolls one was removed.  I have noticed that some posters there, do credit the source....which is great.

That is really rude, especially the issues that are at V??? Regarding this forum.  I am glad you replied Maddy. As you said Jo has a good idea.

Well it's now re-named Maddy's chorizo & capsicum risotto  ;)

I believe she is doing a book.

She will do exceptionally well  8)  Good on her....hope she has enough printed.....they will be a sell out!

I made a complaint to the recipecommunity about another issue, and have not even been given the courtesy of a placating email!  I doubt anything will happen about copied recipes.  I really am thinking about taking my recipes off and just posting them here.

I too would be so peeved with it myself.I have had a few of my photo's "stolen" with the person having the cheek to claim they took the photo themselves. I now only post photo's with some  sort of watermark on them to make it a little harder for people like this. I would be reporting this to the higher authority Maddy if I were you. Its just not on.. >:(

Interesting that the person hasn't noticed this thread and come out and apologised.

I agree, but it would be hard for her to acknowledge this now.  It is the right thing to do and would take a strong person to do so at this stage; I guess the best we can hope for is that she feels the weight of our disapproval and never does it again.
Title: Re: Copied recipes

Title: Re: Copied recipes
Post by: Wonder on August 24, 2012, 12:36:17 am
True Marina, but it's much easier to admit a mistake and apologies online than face to face. I just worry that she will feel like she can't contribute here in the future for fear of being "found out", if she was to admit her mistake I'm sure everyone would be happy to just move on and forget about it and it would surely be a weight off her shoulders. I guess I'm assuming the individual does acknowledge that she has done the wrong thing which maybe a big assumption on my part.

Maddy I read the comments you put down the bottom and thought they were actually too diplomatic.

I would probably have made a comment that this recipe is very similar/the same as one you posted here.  Whilst you have no problems with people being inspired by your recipes you are offended when someone plagiarizes your work completely and unedited. One of the greatest things about the Internet is that it encourages free sharing of recipes, information, etc but when people steal ideas that someone has worked so hard to develop and given freely on the Internet it leaves a bad taste in people's mouth.

Copying is not cool

I think it would be good to say (under the recipe) why you have taken this action.  Not everyone on RC is a rogue and the honest ones must wonder what is happening.

Doesn't matter now, I have deleted everything.
On my recipes I clicked "edit", go to the second page, and down the bottom there is a pink button "unpublish".

Not everyone on RC is a rogue and the honest ones must wonder what is happening.

yes, that's true.....I don't wish to have those recipes there anymore, and the majority of those members will be on this site anyway.....as we know....re: the risotto-gate   :P

The link to the risotto recipe works http://www.recipecommunity.com.au/recipes/chorizo-and-capsicum-risotto/51870
but there is a chorizo pasta in latest comments, that won't let me access it either....obviously a different issue there.
I have removed completely the 6 recipes that I had posted in 2010.
