Title: Ikea Spatula (w/PHOTOS) = perfect spatula companion
Post by: frazzled_mom on July 15, 2012, 02:36:39 pm
Hi all.
I am pretty sure the topic of the use of ikea spatula has been raised before. This is just my experience with some extra photos.

I dont know if tgere's anyone out there who is like me. I hate my tmx spatula from day one. I found it too bulky and i couldnt scrape food off the bowl efficiently. The only time i use the tmx spatula is to scrape something off while the tmx is on. Even then sometimes i just prefer to turn off tmx and scrape off the bowl with the ikea spatula.

Thus began my journey to find perfect spatula. Whenever i went shopping or anywhere really, i made a point to visit the kitchen stores/sections and checked out their spatula range.

Then 2 weeks into my spatula journey, i went to ikea with my son to buy some baking utensils. And lo and behold, there sat the spatula i wanted all along. It was bundled with the baking mat. $14.95 for spatula and mat. Very cheap.
And bery easily replaceable. I dunno if Ikea sells just the spatula itself. I didnt see any. Only the ones boxed together with the baking mats. :)

It is long enough to clean the bowl in one scrape. It is flexible enough to reach under the blade. And it is very easy to grip and very light and sleek.

I hope this help making your thermomix experiences more enjoyable :)

Looks good frazzled mum.  I also hate the TMX one and only use it to remove the basket.  I have a collection of spatulas and use different ones for different mixtures.  Tenina sells a particular one that may people love.

I particularly like the little brush that comes with Helene's spatula.

This looks really good, FM - thanks for the photos.  I use Helene's - fabulous spatula and the brush is perfect for getting into those little nooks and crannies but I'd like this one too - especially for getting under the blades . . .

Actually the one that Tenina sells is from Helene and is the one she uses in her  videos . Delivery seems to be pretty quick to Australia. I have  three now and have given several away as they are great for any one who cooks and bakes . The handle is particularly comfortable and the blade is strong but flexible and can get under the blades easily. I find it especially useful, when making butter so I don't waste any luscious bits. superkitchen.com and deliver is included.

That is amazing. I am still waiting for the seeds Stacelee sent me weeks ago the 28th June I think. Yikes.

Thanks frazzled_mum, I think I'm alone in that I'm  not a huge fan of Helen's and always on the look out for one that I like more than my small Aldi one. I have to go to ikea so will have a look. Am I correct that it's almost the same width all the way down?

Yes. It is almost the same with all the way down. The grip part is a bit rounded. And the end bit is flat and flexible. It's very economical too, which is a plus.

Can you buy the spatula on its own?

I am astounded Wonder.  What is it you do not like about Helene's super spatula?  I noticed it in some other you tube VDOs about the Thermomix including Steffs in Germany.  She got hers from Helene as well. Mara in Spain loves hers as well .  If you have one and don't like you could give it away or maybe Helene would take it back.

Gert,
I didn't realise they hadn't arrived.  I have more dried.....I'll pop more in the mail to you tomorrow when I go to work.  We are still waiting for Australia Post to deliver some gift cards that were posted three weeks ago.  I'm hoping they haven't gone astray again.  The police had to get involved last time because a post office employee stole them.  Somehow I don't think they would have stolen chilli seeds :)

Maybe the sniffer dogs got to them. Even if they did open the envelope they usually send a not to you.    Maul sometimes take two weeks to get here from Sydney. a lot comes by road as well.

I dont think u can buy the spatula on its own, halex. At least i didnt see it sold separately from the bakibg mat at my ikea. But i dont mind. Now i have 2 baking mats. The tmx one for myself and the ikea one for my DS4 whenwe're doing dough work for cookies and stuff. 😊

Gert, I know I'm going against the grain not being overly fussed Helen's spatula. I'm not exactly sure what it is I don't like, I do find the handle a little to short and a bit wide making it a little uncomfortable in my hand and find the flexible bit to wide. I guess just difficult to please :). I actually bought two plus the brush (which I hate to say I have never taken from the package  :o), I'm not dissapointed I bought them and they do get used because I never seem to have enough spatulas, but just not my favourite.

Oh wonder you should try the brush. It is great. Wish I had several more. I will look forward to what Helene is up to in the shop and I might just buy another spatula and several, brushes as well. I use one to clean the keyboard on my laptop. I really should not  eat over it. LOL!

Gert, I forgot I even had it until you mentioned it, I'll dig it out from under the kitchen sink.

Obbie, my favourite was a cheaper from Aldi which came in a pack of 3, the largest was huge and went in the bin but the smallest was fantastic, unfortunately I lost it and need to wait for them to come back on rotation at Aldi.

Actually I agree with Wonder.  I'm not overly fussed with the spatulas either, and find I reach for my others before I go for one of them.  I love the brushes though.  :)

I have the Ikea mat and spatula, and must admit that I have never tried using it in my TC as a spatula. I used it last week to slice up the pull apart bread on the mat. I will try it soon as a spatula.

I was planning on buying Helene's spatula and brush sets but now unsure after reading the above posts. They look great on the video but seems quite a few of you don't like them. Maybe I will go to Ikea and try their spatula as I really find the TM one very awkward to use.

Don't be put off MF just go to Helene' s web site and watch her VDO . Tenina loves it so much she is selling lots at her cooking classes.

I think it depends on how you use a spatula and the handles. I find hers very comfortable and in control.  tahe thin handles ones don't work for me but do for others.

Anyway Helene's  is pretty cheap for great quality.  The IKEA one looks pretty flexible but way to narrow for me. Horses for courses.

I can highly recommend then brush.
Had a nasty incident with my blade and a pate knife.

Yes I thought they looked great on the video and the brush looks perfect for getting into everything. Will follow my initial feeling and just order them as the spatula must be a big improvement on the TM spatula. I can't use it so have been trying out the few that I have in my drawer. Thanks for the positive comments Gert and mcmich for the brush recommendation. :)

For the little brush to clean the blade, i use the little brush that comes with baby's bottle brush. Normally the baby's bottle brush has this little brush that is used to clean teats. It is not as delicate as Helen's i admit. But somehow work for me.

Just an idea if someone already had the baby bottle brush lying around somewhere. 😁

I  have ikea brushes that I use to scrub the blades, they are quite big but I find they do the job - maybe I'm just not as fussy as everyone else??

You won't be disappointed as the wee brush also cleans the grooves on the TMX base and you can get around the lid as well.

I just HAD to go and buy one. I really like the mat (although I haven't used it yet). The shape of the spatula is fine, would be better if it was softer and more silicone based. But hey, another one to add to the collection  :D

The little brushes can be bought separetely at Spotlight in their cake decorating section. They are for cleaning the piping tubes and are around $5 to $6 each. I go through one every 2 to 3 months.
