As suggested by Uni....
40 bags in 40 days to give away, send to charity, friends, neighbors, somebody.
We could really clean and declutter. :D
Who else wants to join.
-
OMG Obbie 40 bags is alot. I just did a declutter and have donated alot of DS old toys to a little boy whose parents are doing it tough. Still have some baby stuff to give away when DH gets them from the top shelf int he storage (back) room.
-
I have kids toys, clothes to give away..
Even small bags Dizzy
-
I just did a reclutter before I started full time work, sent a car load home with my Mum to give to the op shop
-
How big are the bags?
-
This one is more up my alley than the $100 a week challenge. Count me in....I might start on my clothes. I still have a lot of size 24/22 and 2xl stuff in my wardrobe that are now too big for me......I mentally have a lot of garbage to get rid of as well. I am hoarding these clothes because when I look in the mirror I still see myself as the same size I was 22kg ago. I probably should have a look at what is in the kitchen as well...my tins fell out the other day and nearly gave me concussion.
-
How big are the bags?
I'm in.
Uni is using shopping bags and I'm using all those nice bags you get when you buy clothes, shoes etc.
I have a ton of them that I've kept but never used. Actually I would have several bags of bags just to start with.
-
what a great idea. I like the thought...
-
I have books, kids toys, clothes, all to give away.
Imagine what clean homes we will have, even 10 bags is great. :D
-
Haven't got much to get rid off because I have just dropped off a couple of big bags to the op shop. Have given away all the baby clothes and little newborn baby stuff to friends. Cleaned out the kitchen cupboards not so long ago. The stuff that really need a clean out is the garage but I don't think it would fit into bags.
Love the recycle of clothes, since having kids I'm always in the op shop picking up bargains for them. They just grow through the clothes so quickly. Also find some great things for me and DH too.
-
starting in the bedroom on friday
-
How big are the bags?
any size dede a few years ago i did only one item per room per day
-
I've tidied the linen press today and ended up with sheets, towels, tablecloths, picture frames and candle holders in 1 very large plastic bag (the type charities leave in your letterbox) and a very full shopping bag. So that plus the 72 items of clothing from the wardrobes yesterday is a good start for me.
-
Yes I did a clean out not long ago so don't think I could find much else to give away or toss. Although my wardrobe probably needs a tidy up. Might get a couple of bags there.
-
you have done very well JD
-
Did a GIGANTIC down size last summer before moving.
Way more than 40 bags.
We sold on eBay, but gave most to charity. They brought a small lorry to take it away, and we had lots of car loads away as well!
Will look through again, but doubtful will get much more. Maybe some thing in the clothes cupboard. Trouble with farming is old clothes are needed for outdoor work.
Good idea though. It was hard I threw things out that went way back... Trouble was we'd always lived in very big farmhouses... So had plenty of room. Now we livevin much more normal sized 4 bed house with no utility room.
-
I already have stuff to put on ebay. Am cleaning the rumpus room tomorrow, at least a bag of mags to take in to work.
-
I should do this, but I'm already doing the food challenge, and concentrating on making more space in my kitchen cupboards. Maybe this will be my next project.
-
I would love to do this but just don't have time at the moment. Maybe later in the year,it's a great idea.
-

ES, I obviously have way too much time on my hands. Am doing the $100 food budget challenge, pantry and freezer challenge, must start the weight loss challenge and will start the 40 bag challenge tomorrow.
-
Count me in on this I have taken a boot load today to the Red Cross shop, just from the spare/junk room. have cleaned out my craft room and have more to give away and put on ebay, then it will be the bedroom, its amazing what you collect over the years. And its only the 2nd day of holidays.
Loving all these challenges.
-
Jen, the craft room. I have boxes of things that I haven't looked at in 2 years since DH and I got married. Missed none of it.
-
I've decided to clean out my craft room and make some beds for the dogs and cats in animal shelters.
I've got lots of old washable wool doonas in varying sizes which I'll cut to size, then cover with old doona covers or some of the micro fibre pieces I've been hoarding. Should help to keep the poor babies warm till they find their 'forever home'.
I'll post some photos when I get a few done.
-
I have so much scrap booking stuff. I no longer have time to scrapbook. Might box some of it up and donate to the school. I just did the some of the linen closet and DH has taken some stuff to work to use as rags.

What a lovely idea Merrilyn. It's great when you can do some good with your excess.
-
I could do with doing this, but at, too busy.
Is there a set starting date.
:)
-
not really H, i am starting friday
-
I'm in. I reckon I'd have 40 bags already if I take all the stuff out of the boxes I've got it in!
We put the boxes where we could see them, so we'd take them to the Good sammies when we went to town yesterday. Got half way down the highway and the kids I and looked at eachother at the same time and said "we forgot the boxes"! ???
JD - my linen cupboard is next, but I don't think I'll find as much as you!
-
I am starting Saturday, I could pack up alot on the weekend..
-
If anyone finds any old gaming consoles or games that they are dumping, my son has asked me to ask if he would be able to have them....he is happy to pay postage. He's apparently having a few nerd moments....he is getting a nintendo and a super nintendo for his birthday and is angling for an atari 2600 system that is currently sitting in a display cabinet in his favourite game shop.
-
Sure Stacelee.
I have a bag of items on ebay, I've binned a bag and nearly have a bag of magazines to take into work.
-
4 bags in the back of the car. Only 36 to go.
Gert
-
2 bags of toys to give away. So far 10 bags of toys and clothes have gone to this little boy. 2 pictures in frames off to Vinnies tomorrow.
-
DG - scrapbooking stuff........ oh this is about de-cluttering not getting more... ;D ...I'm totally addicted to scrapbooking. :-)) I love it!! Don't tempt me.....! :)
I have decided to try this challange, tho I'm not sure I'll get 40 bags as I have just done a HUGE clear out - if I could start from a couple of months ago I'd allready be 27 bags gone - from supermarket bags to big wheelie bin liner bags. :o Did get another supermarket size bag of old books off the girls bookshelf tonight - missing pages, ripped, etc. Or does rubbish not count?
-

I'm sure rubbish is OK. I binned a bag today. As long as one way or another you do 40 bags in 40 days.
I may be wrong though and making this up.
-
rubbish is ok Mich.
-
I am also culling recipe clippings and print outs - over 2 nights I have done 2 folders, was very proud of myself as I only kept probably 1% of them. My tastes seem to have changed from when I started saving all these recipes :-))
-
That's so good Judy. I'm going through my mountain of magazines clipping recipes. Still to go through my recipe folders.
I'm never going to be done in 40 days.
-

I think especially with a lot of old magazine and newspaper clippings the older ones especially used cans and packets of soup etc and we have really evolved these past 2-3 years. We are making things we never thought we would or thought we could be bothered doing. Sometimes when I go through recipe clippings I wonder why I ever saved them. Even touching the paper they are printed on repulses me :-))
-
Spot on CP, many of them were like that - others couldn't be done in the TMX so out they all went. Still quite a few folders to sift through but it will be one less job for the kids when the time comes ;)
-

Stacelee I will have a look for you, I think there was some nintendo games up in the cupboard.
-
when l read that items were beening sold on ebay my first thought ' was wonder whats beening sold '
second thought ' NO , dont even go to ebay to look
'
if you dont see it, you dont need it , you wont miss it
-
I love my cookbooks and magazines, although if I'm after a recipe I usually look here on the forum or google it. :-))
-
Good advice Nazar. Astarra I will send you all my scrap booking stuff LOL
-
Astarra, cute new pic
-
What size bags?
Thinking about starting this on monday
-
i will be using shopping bags H
-
Great idea. I have done a huge clean out of kids clothes and my clothes earlier this year. We are heading to Thailand in a couple of weeks and I am getting the kids to do a clean out of toys to take with us to donate to an orphanage over there, problem is everyone we know all has too much stuff and too many toys. I was very conscious of this while doing 'the toy sales' this year, stocking up on birthday presents for kids parties. Trying to get more crafty stuff rather than cheap plastic clutter.
Good luck with your challenge.
-
I'm slowly eliminating toys in this house as the 3 older kids don't have toys as such anymore, just the 2 little ones now.
-
Ok will do the 40 bags, Aaagghh I am a hoarder
-
My kids have too many toys. have stayed away from toy sales this year.
maybe a computer for xmas.

That is a great idea to donate. When we travel we always load up on pencils and pens, and other small school items . When out and about we just drop into any school to drop stuff off. It is amazing the welcome you receive an d the people you meet ,just being casual. Some children actually have to share a pencil in some places. Eye opener when I see kids here going to school with their I Pads. Often inThailand we are invited to talk to children so they can practice their English which they learn from an early age. We get to practice our Thai and we all get to giggle.
Donating even small stuff opens a whole 'nother world.
Gert
-
Yes Gert, we donate all the kids clothes, toys ect, to friends, playgroups, kindys.
saves on storage and great to de clutter.
-
Done another bag now...miss 5s play clothes, she has alot but wears a uniform 5 days/week!!! She still has plenty, just bagged ones I don't particually like, so won't miss for the younger girls! :)
-
...and another bag from the linen press....
-
Thank you for that Jen, my son will appreciate anything game related......he is following in my nerd footsteps.....he was complaining the other day that I didn't keep my Apple IIe.
I've decided that I will do a massive clean out of my wardrobe when I break 80kg....I'm about 2kg away. Gives me something to aim for. In the meantime, I'm starting to go through the cupboards in my family room that have not been cleaned out in about 5 years. I'm sure at least a couple of bags will come out of them.
-
Oh, this is bad, bad, bad ;D - I can't stop now - I've just done ANOTHER bag from 1 kitchen drawer...and to think I thought I had already done a major clear out...! :)
-
LOL stacelee, I found a nintendo game in my clean out but I don't think your DS would want this one.....
Barbie - Jet, Set & Style. ;D
-
Probably not....he was definately never a Barbie kid....in fact he once tried to bury his sisters baby born doll cos he hated it so much. He wanted her to play Thomas the tank.
-

LOL!!! :D
-
I can understand that....
-
There are now 6 bags in the car. Only 34 to go.
Gert
-
Going good Gert
-
My kids' school will start collecting soon for the school fair so I've been hoarding clothes, toys, books & household items for a while. They make pots of money from their 2nd hand stalls & we parents get rid of unwanted stuff, so it's win-win!
-
Deedub, great idea, wish my kids school did that..... :)
-
It's amazing how much stuff we have that we don't use. I've just sorted/cleaned off my sewing table and filled a huge bag of stuff. Might have to split it into a couple of bags as I now can't lift it up. The sewing table has been a dumping ground, now I need to get to the sewing machine to make some curtains.
Have also filled a nappy box with paper, envelopes, cardboard boxes etc - will use this to start the fire with.
-
i been out all day so i will start tomorrow
-
5 bags down, 35 to go.
-
. . . we moved from one full house to another full house . . .can't begin to say how much stuff we've gotten rid of over the time . . . the recycle/buy back section of the local tip (which is huge and extremely well organised); the op shop; the Freecycle website; the recycling bins that are collected each fortnight; the sorting/keeping/shredding of documents, etc. from previous generations; - and we're still going! I'm sure there is an end in sight somewhere!! ;D ;D But will add the 40 in 40 to keep up the momentum! :D
-
While Judy and CreamPuff are culling their recipe pages, I have been going through mine and have found that I want to cook most of these forgotten recipes. Stumbled upon a parmesan and pinenut damper. Having it with dinner tonight.
-
Oh please be carefiul of pine nuts. http://conversation.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/pine-mouth-nuts-bitter-metallic-taste/
We suffered this for about 8 weeks last year, it ruined our holiday. We'd never risk pine nuts again.
-
Thanks for that link DJ . .very wary of buying any foodstuffs imported from China . . .a very sad situation and one that our govts don't seem to want to address in a hurry . . if at all.
-
Ok, DJ will be very careful.
-
Ooh I am going to give this a try! We need to get our house ready for sale so I can't see my DH complaining about a bit of decluttering... If anyone knows of a family in Perth who needs baby clothes (girl or boy, from 0000 to about 0) let me know I have a whole heap to pass on. I have already cleared one bag of old recipe books :)
-
would u believe only 1/2 bag from the bedroom :(
-

Having a break from cleaning the bedroom. Getting rid of all my size 6 & 8 clothes. I will never be that size again.
Hanging onto to the 10's (still hopeful).
After Dizzy bumped the wedding photo thread, I new something i can get rid of out of the freezer. The wedding cake from my first marriage. 32 years I've been moving it from home to home. Time it went.
-
Definately time it went Michele.
I didn't keep any of my cake.
-
Have nearly finished the bedroom. 3 bags of rubbish. A bag to put on ebay. 2 bags to donate.
Haven't done the dressing table yet. That's 11 bags all up.
I'm so annoyed with myself for having all this excess.
-
Michele, I'm sure that old wedding cake wouldn't have tasted any good. Good for you for hanging onto it for so long. I am not so sentimental and in my latest cleanout of wardrobes, out went the outfit both DH and myself wore on our wedding day, a couple of weeks shy of 25 years ago. Old fashioned and would never be worn again so my head ruled my heart this time. I'll post a photo of a photo in the wedding photo section. (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10687.30)
-
Five bags down for me! But I went to ikea and brought home 2 bags :-/ does that offset my 5 thrown out/donated?
-
Kath :-))
you are doing so well Mich
-
So Uni did you find anymore than the half bag in the bedroom? ;D ;D
-
just a few more sarongs Mich
-
Maybe you need to try another room. :D :D
-
i did have a look at the other rooms not much in there that i can get rid off. last year on gumtree there was a woman who what to swap i cant remember what it was i think it was 1 toy for some blankets :'(, i called her and she come a picked up about 4 box full of blankets sheets towles jumpers etc etc
-
Today I took another couple of bag so 10 so far. DH kindly did a big clear out and found he could get rid of 2 whole shirts. Not even a bag full. Now if I had gone through his stuff........
I am going to struggle to find much more but I have not tackled the laundry yet. So still some hope.
Gert

LOL...2 shirts. My DH got rid of a pair of shoes and a years subscription (2002) of better homes and gardens magazines.
He doesn't know about the latter.
-
Mcmich he has more clothes and shoes than I do. I could get ten bags outta his closet in about 2 minutes flat.
Gert
-
i would not even dream about touching franks things
-
frank is a hoarder for sure, but a super tidy and clean one :-)) do you guys want to see what he does with his fav t shirts
-
i would not even dream about touching franks things
Yeah it is a bad idea but he is going to Melbourne in Wed. I am thinking..........
Gert

i dare you Gert ;D
-
I think I could get away with a couple of things. Show us what Frank does.
Gert
-
As long as I don't touch the shed, DH is happy for me to throw out anything of his. Most of his torn shirts become rags, or painting shirts for DS.
-
and you should see his office, more of a show room than an office
-
What a great idea Uni.
-
Good idea, are the framed t.shirts in his office?
-
in the lounge room Mich :-))
-
Would that be with his paintings of the Queen?
-
:-)) yes
-
I would not be game to throw anything out of the shed...
-
The shed is a no go zone. I wouldn't want to go in there anyway, god knows whats in there LOL
-
Our 2 sheds are very clean, cars, machinery, and tools, workshop.
But its cleaned every week.
-
frank is a hoarder for sure, but a super tidy and clean one :-)) do you guys want to see what he does with his fav t shirts
I would be too embarrassed to show my DH fave t-shirts. He just keeps wearing them until the collars are ragged and there are holes.
-
I've got 2 more bags of magazines to get rid of. Not even going through them anymore, straight in the bag.
On the bright side I found $100.00 in a card my Aunty gave me. Seeing I haven't missed it I will donate it with the money I make off ebay.
Actually only made $16 so far with ebay. Every little bit helps but I wanted to be a bit more helpful than $16, glad I found my birthday money to put to it.
-
i just knew it that someone would have found money ;D
-
$100 great find...
-
Okay, I'll be in on this challenge. I'll start tomorrow and clean out the old notes and files from my study bookshelf. I still have a lot of stuff from the last course I did, so I need to make room to put files and notes for the courses I'm doing now ;)
Then I will investigate under my bed and in my chest of drawers. There shouldn't be anything too scary because I rearranged my room not long ago and had a bit of a clean up.
From there I think I will venture into the games room.... :o
I'd love to find $100 but I'm not holding my breath :-))
-
I would love to find $100 too Amy.
cleaning up and giving away kids toys this week..
-
Starting my bags next tuesday, school is back then.
H :)
-
Well my ebay sales are now up to $24.35. I wish i had just given the stuff away. Less work.
Glad I found the $100. Still have a few days to go with some ofthe auctions.
-
Two bags down today ;)
Good luck with your other auctions Michele, sounds like the ebay sales are a bit tedious :-\
-
does it cost you much to list the items mcmich
-
does it cost you much to list the items mcmich
The first 30 are free for the month, if it's auction a small fee for buy it now.
-
thats good , my husband a while back looked into selling some stuff we had here and he decide it would cost to much to list with a photo might have to look into it again thanks
-
first photo is free nazar.
-
Nazar if you have a local Gumtree site where you live it is free itch photos and is dead easy and very effective.
Gert
-
Gumtree is a very good way to sell stuff, it's local so no postage .
Gert how is your pantry going?
-
what do you sell under on ebay Michelle, My friend goes to op shops, buys designer fashion and sells it on ebay..
-
At the moment I have minkpink denim shorts, 2 cue dresses, 1 basque dress, portmans tops. etc.
I start the auctions at .99c. Don't know why they don't do better. They are size 6 and 8 though.
-

The pantry is going well. I have rearranged it so I can see more stuff so I have been using more stuff. DH is down in Melbourne for 2 days so nothing doing today.

My pantry is looking good, still a long way to go with the freezer.

That takes me up to 9 ;)
I have done 15 bags and I doubt I can find many more.
Gert
15 is a good effort Gertie :) If you do too many you will have nothing left in your house :-))
-
I just filled a bag - with 1 thick wolley jacket, does that count?
-

Use smaller bags Uni ;) ;D
-
:( i have done only 4 bags
How hard are you trying Uni?
having said that I've only filled 17 bags and keep looking at all my stuff and keep looking.
-
Uni, why don't you just knit 40 bags and give them away? ;) ;D
-
lol amy
Mich i have tried :(
-
It seemed like a good idea at 10pm last night ;D
-
I am giving more clothes away...
-
Have the all the children here today so I'm hoping to get rid of as many bags as possible.
-
how many children do you have Michelle. I have 2 ... :D
-
I have a married daughter 25yrs, son 22yrs, married stepdaughter 30yrs, stepdaughter 19yrs (about to start flatting, hope to help her out with lots of items) and stepdaughter 15yrs.

As many as you want Mother Mich ;D
-
I'm up to 13... oh dear, I just realised its the unlucky number :o I'm not superstitious but I'm going to find one more bag right now ;)
-
The school has put out the collection bins for the fete, yay! Got rid of one bag of toys yesterday, also have about 3 bags of clothes to donate once they've emptied the clothes bin. Also chucked out 1 bag of broken toys.
-
Great idea. I am still going through toys...
-
Deedub, sounds like you're doing great! :D
-
I've come to a bit of a stand still with the bag give away. Not that I haven't still got a lot to get rid of, just lack of time and I don't feel motivated when I get home to do it. But I'll get back into it.
-
I just do not have any more stuff. Took the 16th bag to the Sallies today and brought home a bag of goodies. Go figure ???
-

Gert - I think that might be a case of "gotcha" . . . ;D But then look at this way - you just applied the principle of whatever comes in, something's got to go out to make room and not clutter . . . :D
-
Yeah but.......
Anyway it was a dress and a top plus a pair of crop pants. New they would have cost about $200 due to labels but only $9.50 . So you gotta do it eh? Love it when ppl like me toss their clothes.
Gert
-
You do well with your label shopping up there Gretchen. On the odd occasion I was in op shops looking for something to wear on the dress up day, I couldn't find any really good labels. Some of the better shops yes but not the top end of the market shops. I wonder if they stay in the more affluent Eastern suburbs op shops.

In the major cities buyers comb the op shops for their up market second hand boutiques. They can make a lot of money. Lots of socialites sell their stuff in recycle shops too.
Just lucky I guess. You have to be there on the day .
Gert
-
I've never really found any great clothes at op shops. Have found Meakin China and loads of cookbooks. (that now I'm giving away).
Can you get medication for hoarding?
-
Can you get medication for hoarding?
If you find any, send me some :D :D
-
I have just done 3 more bags to go to the Salvos. :)
All clothes we had in storage since miss 5 grew out of them, now fit miss 18mths but are so ugly I don't know why I kept them...maybe they were cute 5 years ago. :-))
-
i dont know why we do that astarra
-
I keep giving kids stuff away. :)
No point in keeping it..
-
With DH away for at least the weekend I will really get stuck into it this weekend after work.
-
Got rid of 7 more bags over the weekend. Very happy ;D ;D ;D
-
Have just started on this. Got rid of 3 bags over the weekend. Now have to start on my recipe books.

Marie
Good luck on this challenge Marie, its a big one! :D
-
I gave away another 2 bags of kids clothes... :)
-
I'm wishing I had kids so I could give away their stuff :-))
-
You will Amy, kids are fun though...

You ever finished that sentence. Kids are fun.......sometimes!
>:( ;D
Gert
-
Ok Gert, Kids are fun sometimes, :D when they are asleep, :Dnot trying to hurt each other, while they Want something.
Kids can be Bad too >:(
If you can handle kids, you can handle pretty much ANYTHING..
-
It was always my thinking that if you can handle parents, you can handle anything :-)) ;D
-
Took 4 more bags to the salvos today ... very happy! :)
Is so easy as I drive past them every morning when I take DD to school, so I can stop and drop each time, instead of having them piling up all over the house! :D
-

Kids are a life sentence.
So what can I off load on you DFD and DFS?

That looks interesting Jadey.
-
I'm using up lots of bags at the moment because I have to tape them over my knees to have a shower :-))
-
Don't think that counts Amy ;) - how are your knees now anyway?
-
I am going to join this challenge next week, as I have a few days annual leave. I might have to condense the 40 days down to 4!
When my partner (who is now my husband) moved in together a couple of years ago we had to fit 2 households worth of things into 1 house. Of course it didn't fit and we had to get an offsite storage shed. Even though we have given heaps & heaps of things away and to charity, the storage shed is still full. I'm going to be ruthless and get rid of as much of it as I can next week. It's all got to go!
-
Good luck with that challenge Katie, it sounds like a big job.
-
That's great Katie. Storage is expensive.
DH and I had to get a storage shed too when we first got married. Combining two households is a challenge.
I have lost count of the bags (not that it matters) and haven't done any in the past week and a half due to all the extra shifts I've taken on.
Will have to get back into it.
-

Aww!!! :-)) ;D
They are getting better thanks Astarra :) They have nice thick scabs on them, which look pretty gross, but I can see the skin healing around the edges. Its still very pink and tender though.
They'll get there :D :D :D And I have learned a valuable lesson, that is if you're going to trip while running on a treadmill, try to fall off rather than stay on the thing!
-
I have 5 bags of toys, and 5 bags of clothes going tomorrow. Yeah
-
Well done Robyn :)
I haven't even made it to my storage shed yet and I'm already half way to my 40 bags. Amazing what you can find to get rid of when you really start looking.
-
Shoot, I'm really behind on this challenge... :(
-
Very inspired by this thread to de clutter some of my clothes. My DH and two of DD's are going to visit our family in UK next week. I will be home alone most of the time. I probably won't cook for myself while they are away, unless my other DD is home. So I plan on cleaning out big time. I wish I was going with them now..... I decided not to earlier in the year when they got tickets 😒they will miss my birthday and fathers day! But great they Get to see family Nan turns 99!
-
my total # of bags so far 8 :(
-
I was only thinking about this thread over the weekend. Since DSD moved back into the granny flat (minus the cat, thank goodness) I have had to start clearing out the wardrobes etc.
Unfortunately she wants closet space as well as somewhere to stay. :-))
-
How rude Mich :D :D :D :D
-
how dare she :D :D :D :D
-
Jeez, teenagers don't need clothes! What is she thinking?! ;D
-
And shoes, giving me a run for my money. A bit of an Imelda Marcos. Sadly we aren't the same size :(
Maybe I could get DSD doing the challenge?
-
Gosh, we gave away more toys, cars, rocking horse last weekend too.
-
That's the trouble when someone moves into our home Michele - we have taken over all the wardrobes in every room of the house and it means a giant cleanout. Hope things are working out for you, where did the cat go?
-
I forgot, and 3 computers too

Yes I had taken over the flat in a big way. The built-in robe has lots of shelves and I have years of magazine subscriptions stored there. Got rid of the lot.
DSD is hardly ever home, between working, taffe and her social life. She's keeping the flat nice and clean, paying board so all is well.
The cat went to her mums place.
-
Lucky mum. ;D ;D
Gert
-
LOL ;D
-
look what i found whlie cleaning/storing/throwing/giving away
brand new beach/shopping bag i bought it in bali about 5 years ago :-))
-
Lucky you had a clean out then Uni ;D ;D
-
I had a clean out in my wardrobes before I came away. Loaded up3 large bin bags with tops and jumpers and two linen baskets of shoes and bags plus 2 bin bags of jeans, pants & skirts. DH did the same as my DD's friend is moving to Zimbabwe and has a container going so lots of clothes going where badly needed. Been needing to do it for ages but needed a push :D
A good feeling when it's done.
-
it is a good feeling when its fianlly done
i have 2 suitcases full for next time we go to bali to give away
-
I used to that every time I went to Bali Uni :)
Lots of the stuff was things I bought in Bali and never used LOL
I don't know how it all accumulates ???
-
my DD is moving out 2morrow cant wait to get in that room and see how many bags of rubbish i will get ;D
-
Good luck Uni ;D

Wow, better go clean my draws out then :)
-
lets look in our drawers for money.
-
:D :D :D
-
Nice finds Uni and Yvette. :)
-
All I find are odd socks and things we don't wear!!! ;)
-
Don’t you just hate odd socks? ;D
-
I have no idea where the others disappear to. ???
It's an unsolvable mystery :o
-
Either the washing machine monster or the wall side of bed monster seem to eat our other socks, never eat a pair tho! :-))
-
You are right Astarra never a pair in my house either :-))
-
ok, I'm procrastinating....but I thought I'd bump this thread...
I've started by making three listings on gumtree :) Would love to have a garage sale, but don't think I can deal with the effort involved! With the money I collect I'm going to put it away...haven't decided what to do with it- seems silly to buy something!
-
Christmas is coming Jamberie, extra money always comes in handy then.
-
I think all missing socks go to the "odd socks home". The one near here must be about at capacity as I have plenty of socks with no partners here.
I wonder if they miss each other. ???

Are you coming to Hobart?
Gert
-
Now there's a good idea!
I can't commit for a while though...lots going on here
-
Today, I have given 3 bags of clothes away, mine and the kids, that we don't need. ;D ;D ;D
-
I just took another 3 nappy boxes to the salvos. :D
And I have 2 boxes of newborn nappies leftover from the baby that I am giving to a pregnant friend, and 1/2 box of infant girl nappies that I am giving to another friend who's little girl is just one day younger than my bub but about 1/2 the size (poor thing has had medical issues.)
So I feel lighter already!! :D :D :D :D
We don't have room for excess! :)
-
It must be spring!
I took a boot load of clothes and shoes to the Salvo's on Saturday and I have another boot load ready to drop off this week.
It's such a good feeling to clear out the things you no longer want or need.
-
I'm on my second round of 40 bags in 40 days. I've been doing this to make my decluttering more fun. I'm up to day 28 of the second round. I started o the 1/8/13. I decided to document my progress this time as in previous times I've just lost count. The "bags" are items of furniture, 70 Donna Hay Mags were counted as a bag, tea chest sized boxes to donate and sometimes just a shopping bag of rubbish was counted as 1 bag.
So after 68 days I (and DH) have rid our home of 114 "bags" of things plus yesterday as we have council pick-up have put a box trailer load of things out for collection (which I haven't put into the count). I'm glad I've written it down and when I look back there isn't one thing I regret giving away or have missed. ;D
-
You are doing so well Michele, I applaud and admire your tenacity and determination to get the job done.

Me too. You and DH are amazing.
-
I love it. Makes ya feel good .
Gert
-
It does make you feel good ;D I've read Peter Walsh's (Aussie on American TV show Clean House and Guru to Oprah) book
"Does this Clutter make my Butt look Fat?" borrowed from the library. Well I certainly don't have near what I use to although my butt is exactly the same size - BIG!
-
I sold some clothes rails this morning...it was easier for me to put a super cheap price on them than to drive out to the second hand drop off :)
Yes, it does feel so good! McMich, you are the inspiration :)
-
Getting ready for a garage sale. ..I have at least one dining table worth of um 'stuff' that I've collected in the last hour.... I'm going to search a room every day until next Saturday when hopefully it will all go!
-
We have also been de-cluttering since the start of the year, but more seriously over the last three months and it feels fantastic. Have donated many bags of clothes, toys and baby stuff to charity and friends with newborns and have also sold some pricey items on gumtree etc. Money made from the sale of goods is going into DS4's bank account so it's nice. So nice to be rid of stuff...still more to go though.
-
Put more stuff out the front for council pick-up next Monday. I'm hoping a lot more will go before they come to pick it up. It's only supposed to be one trailer load and ours is about three now. Some has been taken already but still way more than what is allowed. ???
-
Wow, Michele, sounds like you are doing amazingly well.
I've done the 40 bags challenge a couple of times now - once about a year ago, and then about 6 mths ago. Starting to struggle now to get more than a few bags of stuff. Hopefully that means I've gotten a bit better at not hanging on to everything...maybe.
We still seem to have loads of stuff - would love to be able to clear out the kids' rooms more, but they are down to stuff they do actually play with. Will have another rummage through around Xmas time though, as they are sure to be well and truly inundated with new things. I've asked for a zoo pass or similar instead, but I am not holding my breath.
And my own weakness is craft supplies - I have wool and fabric stashed away, but sadly little time to do anything with it. I do make/sell the odd thing still, but put it on the back burner these days as I found it too stressful at this stage (did some craft markets last year, and was more actively trying to sell things. Now just get occasional order).
Good luck with the garage sale Jamberie. They are a great way to get a heap of stuff out FAST. ;D
-
It's funny really - everyone that knows us keeps saying "where on earth are you finding all this stuff? Your place was fairly minimalist to start with." The actual house hasn't changed that much apart from the storeroom, which has very little in it now. The biggest changes are in the granny flat and shed where we still had loads of things from when we got married and combined households nearly 4 years ago. The timing is right for both of us now and we are ready to pass things on or sell them. :)
-
Helped my Mum clean out a very small part of her very large shed yesterday and we chucked 5 boxes of rubbish, found 2 very smelly dead rats :o , 3 boxes of odds and sods to go to good sammies, a small box of glass and crystal came home with me ;D and about 3 boxes of stuff went on to the back of the old truck to go to my brothers place. He is setting up a museum (which basically means he is a hoarder and can not throw out anything and "it will be old one day")
Not 40 bags, but it was rather cleansing and Mum's shed is a little tidier.
-
There's always one member of the family that has to hang onto everything much to the horror of their partner. It's even worse when one of their children's marriage breaks up and their son sends things home to store in their garage :D I know one family that is happening to at the moment and DH is not a happy chappy as his wife still has so much stuff from her Mum's place.
When we cleaned out my Mum's place for her to move into the nearby retirement village here, a lot of stuff was put on the footpath for a council pick-up. There was hardly a thing left for the council truck - in the area she used to live, it was gone in a flash. Here, we live in a cul-de-sac and any piles of good rubbish left for pick-up used to stay exactly as it was put although I've noticed of late that some chap has obviously been allowed to come around with his trailer and take what he wants. He has probably had to pay for the privilege of inside information as to where the day's pick ups will be. I was washing the car when he did it last time and not a word was said to me as he went about his business. He took a nice little bounty from our last pile.
When DH & I had a clear out from his place before we moved here, one person actually knocked on the door and asked if he could have the 2 bikes - he was going to make 1 decent bike from the 2. How refreshing that was - we were very impressed. With the tall fence DH's place had, we would have been none the wiser if he had just taken it.
-
That was really nice for them to ask Judy. I don't care if anyone takes the things once there on the curb. What I think is very rude is to toss things any old how and the neat pile is spread all over the place.
-
I can't remember where I heard this but...a guy was moving his lawn and went inside for a toilet break. When he came back the mower which was left on the kerb had gone!
-
For goodness sake courton :o
That's just out and out stealing. >:( Surely they realised it was still hot.
-
The school is starting to collect goods for the school fair, so I will finally be able to get rid of the growing pile of toys/books/clothes/knick knacks which has been cluttering up my study for months. They usually collect earlier in the year, but due to building works they're short of storage space this year so I've just had to hang on to it, although I did give a lot of stuff to the salvo's as well. Still a long way to go - I need you to come to my place Michelle!
-
Another 30 or so items today all ready for the sale.... that brings it to nearly 300 items and I'm nowhere near done!
From the sounds of that you must think I'm a hoarder, but I told some friends and they can't believe I'd have that much. .. I've searched every nook and cranny, its amazing what you find :)
