Can anyone offer advice on how to get cooking smells out of my TMX lid. I have only had it for ten days and on the 4th day I made a batch of delicious onion jam but ever since their is a strong smell of this lingering on the lid. I washed it thoroughly immediately after use and didn't really notice the smell until the following day. Have tried lemon juice, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda but to no avail. Fortunately the smell is not transferring to any of the food that I am cooking but just wish I could get rid of it. Help please!!!

Mama Fergie, have a look at this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4545.0) thread and there will be links there for more advice.

Thanks Judy, lots of suggestions there so I will work on it over the weekend. Was hoping to cook another batch of the onion jam but will give it a miss until I see if I can get rid of the smell.

Can't remember what all the advice was but I have had the same problem many times. It goes away eventually only to come back with the next onion or garlic thing cooked. I have stopped worrying about it.

Ha ha I have no hope of getting rid of it then as I use onion and garlic often. At least up until now the onion smell is not transferring to the blander foods that I have cooked. Made scones and was worried they would taste of onion jam but they were fine.

It is interesting that. It doesn't transfer the smell into taste. But if you are worried just order another lid and keep it for the other stuff. Not expensive and no worries..

Mine does the same, I wash it normally and then store the lid and seal upside down on my thermy so they're facing up and can air off. The smell disappears but like Gert says, it comes back whenever you cook something with onions, curry etc. I've never had it alter the taste of any of my food though, I don't worry about it anymore :)

I'm sure it has something to do with the new type of seal they use in later models. My original black seal and a couple of spares I have never seem to hold in any smells or flavours and I seem to only use my second bowl with the clear seal for dessert type recipes, not savouries. I always leave the lid and MC off like Thermo Mrs.

Couldn't agree more, Gert. I used to bathe the seal in vinegar, etc. etc. etc. but no more. And you're right . . it doesn't seem to transfer into what your preparing at the time! So, like Gert, I don't worry about it any more . . . .

put it in the freezer ... just like you would with smellly tupperware!
-
Thanks Daisy . . never heard of that before, but will keep it in mind!!!
-
So what do you do with it before you put it in the freezer?

I also have a smelly lid and tried every suggestion to get rid of it. In the end (after several months) I got a second lid and use one with strong smelling ingredients and the new one for blander smelling recipes.

I had a similar problem so ordered a second lid with a view to keeping one for 'smelly' things only. The smelly one was put into the cupboard and when next I went to use it (maybe a week or so later?) it wasn't smelly anymore. I can't even tell which was the smelly one and which was the new one. Now I just rotate them.
My consultant also said to make sure that you remove the seal from the lid as soon as you are finished with it (for me that is usually after I have rinsed the Thermie) and to not store the lid on the machine (I hang it from the back with the hook on the lid). I also tend not to store it seal inside the lid either.

Will try all the above suggestions and then will start hanging the lid by the hook. Will consider getting a second bowl and keep the smelly one for onions, garlic etc. Do I order a second bowl through my consultant or online?

If you are after a second bowl, wait until they are on special for half price then organize a demo with a few friends. The second bowl is fantastic, you won't be so paranoid when Thermy gets a little older, as the others have said, don't stress..
