Title: Chest Freezers
Post by: Tasty on June 22, 2012, 03:25:17 pm
I'm finding that my normal refrigerator freezer is filling up a lot lately and I'm thinking of possibly investing in a small chest freezer (maybe somewhere down the track) and was wondering what the smallest size would be and also what kind of things you put in yours (there's the standard 'leftovers' or preprepared meals but what about things like flours, nuts, etc)

Tasty I just bought a chest freezer for the same reason. I like to be able to buy meat in bulk and can now do that.

I did a lot of research and found the Haier model at Harvey Norman to have the best energy rating. It was also the cheapest with the same warranty if not a year more than the other more well known brands.

LMT, looking at getting a 2nd chest freezer. How much was the one you bought cost to run?

Lovemythermo - had a look at it and it's a good price.

I think I might compile a list of what I would use it to freeze and then go from there.

must admit I didnt look into the cost Halex, just the energy rating. Guess I'll find out when the next bill arrives!

Now you will have a freezer for every type of meat on the market H - where are you going to put this one?  You probably now qualify for the title of Freezer Queen  ;)

I wouldn't buy one from you until they were grown up Hally. I don't think a little baby freezer would hold much.

Hally, Problem with chest freezers is you will fill them all and then want another.   This is experience talking.  I love your challenge as I have been using up stuff in the freezers,  but I can't seem to get anywhere fast.  On hols now,  but when I get home will be making a BIG effort.

Haha JD & cookie. Actually cookie if its a male & like my boy well you would do well. Cp is quite tall.

Yes chookie, of course I will fill it up ;D but in an organised manner :)

It comes today. This weekend defrost old dog & put all meat left into young pup. Then I will have 2 clean freezers.
Chookie I mainly want it for bulk meat, as we save somuch money. With regards the challenge, this week & next I am using up all left over & bits in the freezers.

Also when it was full of meat, i didnt want to eat out as I felt bad that I had spent so much money on meat & couldnt justify going out for a meal
 :)

I would love a chest freezer. Can you buy them like frost free fridges whereby you don't have to defrost them etc. I've only ever had frost free fridges and I still have visions of mum defrosting the fridge and chest freezer when I was little. It was such a chore for her!
