Title: Mould!
Post by: courton on June 22, 2012, 12:19:37 am
I have mould on ikea cotton canvas chairs which are the porch. I have tried the vinegar treatment but it has not budged. Any other solutions?

Would mould kill work that you buy in a spray bottle?

Can you take the covers off and soak them in laundry detergent somewhere like your laundry trough or bath?

Can you take the covers off, that is what I do, and then wash with a bit of bleach.

give clove oil a try.  I have a solution made up in a spray bottle (1 litre I think) and have about a dozen drops in it.  You'll need more if you were to soak in a bucket or your washing machine.

Almost impossible to remove from cotton canvas I have had  to recover my outside furniture  several times and then just had them covered in canvass outside blind material. That works so long  as I keep the backs from getting human sweat on them. I use colourful, sarongs  and wash them frequently.

Good luck. Let me know if you find a solution. I never have.

My DH used most of a bottle of oil of clove for a tooth ache before he eventually went to the dentist to have it pulled out :( I remember him being in a lot of pain.

Well the oil of cloves did make a dent on the mould. Might repeat it next weekend.

Glad to hear it, courton.  My DD is in Bangladesh at the moment and just two weeks in to the monsoon season has had to contend with her clothes, shoes and accessories all going mouldy while she's out at work, so I'm very sympathetic with your problem right now as it's worrying her too:
