Title: I'm so excited!!
Post by: MamaMix on June 11, 2012, 03:45:27 am
Hi everyone!!
I've just placed my Thermomix order after having a demo on Saturday - I'm soooo excited and can hardly wait for delivery!!! Thrawling through recipes to figure out what I'm going to cook first  :D

I'm in Auckland, New Zealand, though originally from Denmark, and living here with my 3 young kids and army husband - I'm sure the Thermomix will be a life saver when hubby is away and I've got to get dinner ready with 3 kids demanding my time and attention at the same time.

Anyway, nice to meet you all :)

Hello MamaMix, welcome to the forum.  I don't think we have many members from New Zealand so I'm not sure how well known the TMX is down there.  You will certainly enjoy your new purchase and it will be handy having time for the children whilst the machine is cooking and stirring their meals.

Welcome to the forum Mamamix.
I'm married to a Kiwi - From the Sth Isle (shakey Christchurch) go back for visits about twice a year and for rugby matches.
I'm sure you will find TMX very helpful with three young children and DH away at times.
Lots of great kid friendly recipes too.

Welcome to the forum MamaMix.  I don't know how old your children are but you may like to get them involved with your new machine if they are old enough.

Yeah I don't think Thermomix has really taken off yet over here - I first heard about it through an Australian blog. There are only 18 consultants in the whole country so far, mine had only done two demos before mine.

My girl is 4, and my boys turn 1 and 3 next week, so still a little too young to help out. I've got my fingers crossed that the Thermomix gets delivered in time for me to create some yummy birthday dishes with it :)

Hi Mamamix and welcome.

Congratulations on ordering your TMX. I'm sure it is going to be a big help for you and your family. And if you ever need help this is the best place to visit as everyone is friendly and helpful. I only hope the wait for its arrival is not too painful for you.

Mamamix you live in such a beautiful country. We love coming on holiday to NZ from Tasmania and I can't wait to come back as we always have a great time there.

Cheers :)

Hi Mamamix - and a very warm welcome to the forum.  You really will wonder how you ever lived without the TMX in your kitchen!!  Have you  ever given some thought about becoming a consultant yourself with so few there at the moment?  Good luck and let's know how you're going.   :D

Hi mammamix :)

I've only had my Thermie for a week now but he's made himself at home. I've made so much already with a lifetime to go - so excited for you:)

It's so cool to meet all you fellow Thermo-enthusiasts on here :) Been the longest two days ever, waiting to hear when my Thermomix will be delivered!  ???
I was wondering if anyone have suggestions of what to cook first once it arrives?? I can see that quite a few recipes from EDC need tweaking, so I'm keen to try a fool proof recipe  ;D My hubby needed some convincing before I was able to put my order in (our demonstrator is quite new and probably didn't sell it as well as she could, I was more convinced by my own research than her demo) - so I really want to impress him and convince him it's a great investment!!

I am not a real risotto fan MamaMix but this creamy prawn risotto (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=7006.0) is a real winner in this household.

Welcome.
It is exciting.
I've had mine since April and my second bowl came this week. I found one bowl was not enough.

It is such fun trying new things after a lifetime of cooking and there are so many good things in this forum, lovely recipes and lots of help from so many lovely people

Enjoy !

I like the sound of the seafood risotto, and pumpkin soup too!! I'm still waiting IMPATIENTLY for the arrival of my Thermomix, no word on when it might arrive. I ordered on Monday (seems like sooo much longer ago) and the consultant said it was meant to take about 5 days but she'd been waiting 10 days for one... so who knows!!
My husband is going overseas in a couple of days, gone for 2 weeks, so hopefully he'll be coming back to a Thermy confident wifey :) Can't wait to make some nice lemon custard for dessert when it arrives, I'm finding myself not wanting to cook anything while I wait for its arrival, wanna save it all for then ;)

Dear MamaMix,  Just a tip to make your lemon custard perfect:  Try this tweak to the EDC recipe:  60g raw sugar, 30g cornflour, peel of one lemon (zapped for 20 secs), then add 2 eggs and 500g fullcream milk and cook 7 mins on 90 deg, speed 3.  See if you like it better than the plan flour version.  Good luck with your Thermomix journey and welcome to the foum.  :)

That sounds delicious cecilia, I will definitely give that version a try!! Do you think, when making it for kids, that I could cut down on the sugar without having to add more corn flour?

Just heard from my consultant and my TMX will be here tomorrow afternoon or Wednesday morning. Yaaaaay!!! :)

Haha Aussie Brenda, I feel like I've been saying that line on repeat for the last week!!!  :D
Nope, will be here tomorrow at 10 am!! Counting down!!! Still haven't worked out what I'll be cooking for dinner in it, my husband left for Europe this morning, so I've just got to please 3 kids. Thinking some sort of pasta dish. And will probably have to try some baking too. And porridge the next morning!!
Totally excited!!!  ;D

MamaMix, I make porridge nearly every morning, I make it with half Almond milk and half water it is delicious. Then top with Almond milk and honey.   Straight after dishing it up I put water in the TMX and give it a quick wizz on 8 or 9 to get most of the residual porridge out then just soak until I'm ready to wash, it is really easy to clean then, I hope your consultant gives you a brush, mine did.  Also buy your self some silicone spatula's they are the best for scraping the bowl out.  But look for firm ones I got some soft ones and they don't work as well.

Hi MM
I am getting my TMin about 2 hours.   Don't be scared ... There are a lot of us newbies... At least you know that whatever time dayor night there will be an answer on the forum, if the Aussies are in bed those in the N Hemisphere may be posting... 😄

I faced my fear Greyhoundmum, and started cooking.
Tomato soup, bread rolls, spaghetti carbonara, and pear and banana sorbet... I think we'll become good friends pretty quickly.
My only problem - I'm SO full!!!!  :o

Welcome to the forum Mamamix  :)
I am an ex-kiwi, moved over to beautiful Tasmania when we got married (DH is a Tassie - ex-Melbourneite), My family is all still in NZ and I agree, TM doesn't seem that well known over there. My mum and little sis have one each, SIL is getting one sometime, I think once they are in the family everyone wants them!! ;)
My Miss 5 and Miss 3 enjoy using TM, (under my supervision of course, TM is MINE!!)  :)

Hi astarra!! How long have you been living in Tasmania? Do you like it better than NZ? I've never been to Tasmania, traveled for a year in Australia (met my Kiwi husband in Melbourne), but didn't make it down there. I think most Danes would love to go though - because of Princess Mary  :D

My DH was born in NZ and come to live in Tassie when he was 18 months old. His mother is a NZer and his dad born and bread in Tassie.
One day we would like to go for a holiday in NZ. :)

Been here 7 years now, I love it here! Think you should come to Tassie and see how wonderful it is!  ;) :D Yeah- Princess Mary is referred to in the Tas papers as "our" ...

Glad to hear that you've been having fun with your TMX.  What has your family enjoyed eating most so far?

Still loving my Thermomix, but my freezer is so full of food now I've had to take a bit of a break  ;) Still doing smoothies most days though, and baking when we need it. Made Quirky Cooking's fried rice last night, which was lovely. Tonight it's mashed potatoes. And thinking of making a peppermint slice now while my baby boy is sleeping...

I've had a couple of problems so far - I couldn't get my hummus smooth enough. Used a standard can of chickpeas and I wizzed and wizzed, but it would all just spread to the sides of the bowl in a matter of seconds, where the blades couldn't get to it. Tried adding more oil, but the amount was getting ridiculous... Any tips??  ???

Also, when the TMX consultant made the lemon custard during the demo, it was smooth and beautiful. When I make it it's tasty - but has little lumps of lemon peel (even though I wizz it longer than it says in the recipe book)... Again, any tips?

My husband is finally home from overseas so looking forward to making more main meals in the TMX. He's also come home talking about transferring to the Australian army (he's a captain in the NZ army)...!!! I'm keen on the idea, I loved Australia when I lived over there. But must say I'm terrified of the spiders. TERRIFIED!!  :-\

The spiders aren't so bad ... I can't stand the snakes!!! (We need a scared face thingie to put here!!)
DH has lived in Aus all his life and he still hates the spiders tho -  :)
Glad to hear your DH is home again safely.  :D

So pleased too that DH is home safely. I am glad you are taking a break  and have lots in the freezer.

I have learned to love snakes up here in Cairns. Spiders not so much. It is the gekkos that drive me nuts.

Hope DH can make the change easily. Good men are worth their weight in the military.

A belated Haere Mai, MM from a Kiwi Granny living in Perth. I've also visited Denmark where Princess Mary is well-loved. It's a beautiful country.

Glad to know you're enjoying your TMX. I'm making wonderful marmalade these days with fruit from my own trees and looking at dried apricot jam next.

Hi MamaMix glad to hear you are enjoying your Thermomix. Seems like you have been cooking up a storm. I am loving it also and constantly thinking what to cook next. My DH can't believe how good it is. Made my first complete meal using the Varoma and was very pleased with the way it cooked everything.
