I had to start this topic as I'm sitting in the van, with it shaking like crazy, because of the wind. It started about 5 last night when we had a ghastly squall come in and nearly rip the awning off. So we took that down and had to cover our freezer and Engel with boat raincoats so that they wouldn't get wet. Then about 2am it started to pour so DH has put the awning up again to protect them. So it is now daylight and it hasn't let up at all. We are only about 20metres from the oceans edge and it is quite beautiful in its rage. I just wish there was no wind.
I usually have a port or two when the wind comes up, but it is still very early to do that. I think I might though, followed by a mint so no one can smell it on me.
So what are you terrified of? Bet you can't tell that with me it's WIND. I've been checking the weather and it is supposed to ease later today 9or tomorrow which is great. But Sunday is supposed to be even worse.
I am one big very scaredy cat at the moment.
Thanks for listening reading. :-*
-
I can sympathise. We used to have a holiday house on Moreton Island and we commuted back and forth by boat. I used to lay awake on Saturday night listening for the wind because I knew that unless it was really really EXTREME weather, my father would be putting us on the boat on the Sunday and heading back to the Mainland. It could be blowing 30 knots and we would still head back. We had a jet powered boat and I can still remember the howl of the engine when the boat leapt out of the water. My sister and I would be crouching in the bottom of the boat hanging on for dear life to our two dogs and praying that we made it back in one piece. Even now, twenty odd years later, a strong wind makes me nervous. The things we do to kids!
Thinking of you today and hoping that everything is going well and that the weather is easing.
Take care of yourself and yours
Stacey

We experienced some wild weather at Easter at Wilson's promontory. Camping in tents at the southernmost point of mainland australia with 130km/h winds is not something I would recommend! Needless to say the camping trip got cut short - at least our tent survived, many others didn't. Can't say I was terrified though - but if a spider had sought shelter in the tent it would have been a different story!
-
Aww, hugs cookie :-*
I am quite a scaredy cat :-[ Spiders, sharks, horror movies (or even just crime TV shows), strange noises when I am alone at night, axe-weilding psychopaths....
I'm not as bad as I used to be though :D
-
Small spaces.
In my youth i wanted to go to a solarium and get a tan but everytime i would freak out at those sun beds. Lucky i didnt now though!
-
You will e fine cookie, have anther port :D
Home invasions, they scare the pants off me, ever since I was regnant with cp. I wanted to & still do build a panic room.
There was one recently in our suburb & the next night I coukdnt sleep.

I've got to admit, I love a stormy night when I am nice and snug in bed or in front of the fire, not so keen on it in a tent or caravan. I sympathise with you, and hope your van is well lashed down to some good strong anchor points.
I'm not sure that I could say I am terrified of anything in particular. There are heaps of things I hate and would not like to meet down a dark alley at night (spiders for one) and I would hate to lose any of my faculties - I couldn't imagine not being able to use my hands or to be able to see things, etc.
-
I also love a good storm but it would be unnerving in a caravan or tent.
I'm scared of the things that grow in the back of the fridge and also gelatin. Every time I use gelatin I end up with rubber balls and it never mixes through properly, especially with cheesecakes. So now I'm scared.
-
Take care cookie.
I am not scared of anything. Be positive...
Fake it till you make it, so tell the wind your not scared.. :)
-
I remember you mentioning this before Cookie and if a glass of port helps, you go and have it ;D I am not fond of wind either but not to the same extent as you - always feel safe inside the house. Big hugs Cookie, try and stay calm. :-* :-* :-*
My fear was spiders but I seem to have become less terrified these days unless they are big and furry like a huntsman. I can kill any spider bar one of those and I have to get someone to do it for me whilst I make sure DH keeps his eye on it so that it doesn't disappear. I could never sleep knowing there is one in the house.
-
Like Cuilidh, I also like a good storm as long as I am safe inside. The thing I hate the most are snakes. When we lived in an old farm house and the children were small I saw one on the front verandah. Told the kids to stay inside and I attacked it with an axe only to discover it was dead anyway, the cat had killed it and brought it home to show off. I'm also not too fond of huntsmen but can cope with them.
-
Poor Cookie, hope the wind has settled. And you are safe. I was once,in a cyclone and understand your fear. Simply terrifying.
Snakes are my big fear. I grew up on a property and snakes were a daily occurrence in summer. Should have made me tough, but didn't work that way!
-
Don't think I will know until it happens.

How about waking up to go to the toilet and finding a snake on the floor between you and the toilet? There is no one else in the house bar two sleeping doggies. What do you do?
Gert
-
I would have to agree with you cookie, I hate strong winds as well. Not as worried now as I used to be at our old house where we were surrounded by big gum trees. I wouldn't sleep at night waiting for a gum tree to fall on our house. We eventually got some one in to fall all the gum trees that were close to the house. I made sure I wasn't home when he fell the massive one that was the closest to the house incase it went the wrong way :)
Wind and fire would have to be my biggest fears. Other than that would definitely be something bad happening to one of my family members :(
-
Gert, hopefully the snake was asleep, then run fast. :)
Winds don't scare me, as we are so used to cyclones here, but I understand.
Everyone is scared of different things.
Cookie take care.
-
Nope the snake was wide awake.
Gert

Sink?
-
I was born and raised in western Kentucky where every year there are tornadoes - not as many as on the plains to the west but near enough to "tornado alley" to be scary.
I now live where earthquakes occur every few years but not every year like tornadoes. I much prefer this place.
-

Sink?
I tossed a towel over the snake, went to the toilet, removed towel and picked it up and took it out the door to the grass outside. The doggies never woke up and I never get out of bed without looking for it.
Gert
-
Wow Gert, I would never have the guts to do that :o
You've sure got balls courage! :D
-
Gert you are brave....
-
Nah it was a small snake and we are used to them here.
Gert
-
You must see plenty up there Robyn.
At least with towel over it I was able to keep my eye on it . I then dragged the towel near the door lifted it and grabbed the snake and let it sort of slither out. I confess I did not sleep so well after that. Ted was in the hospital so he had an early visit.
Gert
-
Yes Gert, we see alot of snakes, in the garden, vege patch, and in the shed.
Often sunning themselves on the road too.
Its part of where we live.
-
We are lucky we don't get many snakes here ;) We get a lot of bob-tail lizards, but they are only scary when you don't realise they're there and then they move really quick and scare the bejeezus out of you :o
-
Im terrified of snakes and dh is phobic lol.. Says its not normal an animal on land has no legs lol!! They creep me out.. Just something about them ... Even harmless pythons creep me out.. They are often at my parents place in summer.. Eeek wrapped around pots or sunning themselves on the long driveway etc ... I always check under the beds and all over when im there... I broke my funny bone because of a snake.. Horse freaked out and threw me into a tree... Anything else i can handle..
-
We have had a snake each year along our drive way that has scared the kids a couple of times when coming home from school. But now I have removed all the old shrubs along the drive way I doubt we will see it again as there is no where for it to hide :)
Forgot to mention that I absolutely hate mice, can't stand the horrible little things. I have never seen any sign of any in the house since we lived here. Very happy about that :)
-
I just remembered that I do actually have a true phobia: needles. The thought of them makes me cringe and the sight makes me feel physically ill. Lord help anyone who comes at me with a needle... :-))
Lol how on Earth did I forget that when I posted earlier? ??? Must be one of those days...
I'm not a fan of mice either Mandi :( Evil little things they are!
-
We live opposite to an environmental park so we get quite a few snakes visiting. Most of them are harmless greens which we just ignore, but the pythons sometimes get to go for a drive. We have chickens and breed budgies which the snakes like to come and snack on. We have removed snakes from breeding boxes, laying boxes etc and also around chickens bodies. My husband gets the honour of doing that.....I'm not scared of them but after growing up on acreage prior to the protection of snakes, my first inclination is to find a nice sharp shovel. My husband catches them, puts them in a hessian sack and drives them up to the Koala park about a kilometre from where we live. My mother had the dubious joy one Christmas day of driving up our driveway at just the wrong time...my husband had just caught a snake. She blocked his car in, so he just hopped in the passenger seat of her car holding the hessian bag and told her to drive. She wasn't overly amused.
-
Hugs Cookie, have another port or 3.
Snakes, when we lived up north I ran over a hug snake, was too scared to get out of the car and see where it went, worried for weeks that the snake was under the car and going to pop through the aircon vents, drove around in the heat with the aircon off, vents and windows closed.
Spiders in the car, pushed the sun visor up and there is a giant spider on the wind screen, (that I hadn't seen) DD's saying mum I think you need to pull over NOW, I was in my PJ taking DD to a party.

That's when you need to be wearing your depend undies Gert.
DH being a Kiwi is terrified of snakes. Thay don't have any snakes in NZ. Living in the bush we have the odd snake or two.
I'm not overly fond of them myself but want kill them so my Harry the cocker spaniel doesn't decide to play with them.
-

Good idea Michele. Doggies are good at playing with things they shouldn't... :-\ I've got a labrador x kelpie that chases bees :-))
-
Hopefully he doesn't catch any Amy, could be nasty.
-
Not terrified at all, but we just had a loose cow at the back of my shop.... :)

I know :-[ Its very worrying, especially when we are not home and the bees are about...

Like me Frozzie you will have to be the brave one and learn to use a shovel.
-
I love a good storm but am terrified of spiders and especially snakes after I had one slither over my foot after dark on Fraser Island when I was putting some rubbish out- what's even worse is that I had one of my twins next to me and I just scooped her up and stood like a statue, petrified that the snake (which I couldn't identify in the dark) was going to bite me or worse, my daughter. Fortunately, the snake moved on and all was well. I am also petrified about the thought of one of my kids jumping into water and drowning- I know the sound of that is awful but I am very nervous whenever we're near water even though my DH and I can both swim and my twins are having swimming lessons but it just terrifies me!
-
I've thoroughloy enjoyed reading about snakes, mice etc.
I'm scared of snakes too, but the wind fear is almost beyond that. I think it has calmed down a bit, but I'm scared it will come up again. I'm stupid I know.
I think it stems from a few cyclones as a child when we crouched under the table and I watched entire windmills concreted into the ground just fly away.
I'm usually fine if it's someone elses house or caravan though. so if it's windy in Gracetown I should be fine. I'll just smuggle a ;port to bed with me. It will give me a reason for snoring.
-
I hope you have a good nights sleep cookie
Yes jd he will be with us lol
I have chopped up a snake or two with a shovel..... If i didnt i wouldnt sleep....my brother finds it hilarious to hide those lifelike fake snakes in u expected places.. Told him if he does that to dh he may end up flat on the floor...to be honest indont like any pests... But snakes send a shiver down my spine..
-
Snakes and rats :o :o I hope the wind dies down soon Cookie :-* :-* :-*
-
Cookie, I'm very jittery when it is windy. I love listening to the rain, but not when the wind is howling as well. I also am terrified of snakes. They make my skin crawl.
-
Kezza we could be good friends.
-
Hmmm that's an easy one ....... heights. I discovered my phobia the day we took our kids to Luna Park and they wanted to go on the ferris wheel. Hubby had the two boys in one car and I had my 4 year old daughter in another. All was fine till we got to the top and suddenly I looked down. Was sure the darn thing was going to fall over, but couldn't show Miss 4 how terrified I was.
I was thinking, Ok, just hold on, the ride only goes for 2 minutes. I can cope with that. Well that was fine till it came time for people to get off. The operator left us up the top while those in the cars below got off, then he turned the darn thing around and seemed to let everyone else off before us. I was so scared I nearly threw up. Since then, anything past the second step and I'm gone :o
Spiders, insects, even snakes I have no problem with. I was even sitting in the milking shed milking one of my goats, when a red bellied black snake poked it's head through the wall, not more than 4 feet away from me, slithered into the shed and out the door. I didn't bat an eyelid, and just continued milking. We were always taught that snakes don't really want to have anything to do with people, they'd rather just get away. So if you don't bother them, they'll just move on.
But ask me to climb a ladder, and I'm a quivering mess.
-
I am scared I will never ever get off this forum. I just can't seem to close down the laptop :-)) ;D
-
Lol bubbles...
-
Well, when it comes to heights, I am very affected - but only if what I am on is attached to or part of the ground. My first notion of this fear was when I took the mule trip to the bottom of the Grand Canyon back in the early '60s. It's a long story, won't bore you with it here.
I have been up in a hot air balloon and that did not bother me all that much. I have flown in small planes without going wobbly but have a intense fear of flying in large aircraft - I think it's being shut inside with so many other people.
Also can't go into a cave or underground - have an extreme phobia about underground garages.
I kill the occasional rattler here, snakes don't bother me all that much - I grew up in a place where we had rattlers, copperheads and cotton-mouth water moccasins, all poisonous and many non-poisonous. There were several king snakes that lived in the various barns to keep the rat population in check. They are friendly and we kids used to crawl up in the hay loft and lay quietly and after a while we would have the king snakes clustered around us. They will kill poisonous snakes too.
-
How are you today, Cookie? Has the worst of the storm passed over? How is the bottle of port - any left??
-
Loved reading your stories girls - they would make a good book. So you are definitely packing a bottle of port for the retreat Cookie?
Unlike Andie, (I could never go do some of the things she has done), I prefer a big plane. If I have to go down it would be nice to know I had company. My Dad once told my Mum ' if the plane goes down, go down with dignity' - in other words don't you dare start screaming!! I also threatened DD1 on a long trip to the States, if we are hijacked don't look at one of them. With the looks she can give, she would have been shot instantly.
-
Loved your story Judy and yours Merrilyn.
Today is lovely and calm, although raining. The wind died down about 5.30pm yesterday. It blew up a bit in the night from the North West but was ok. It's only the NW winds I hate here as wind from any other direction drops down after a few hours. The NW wind comes in straight from the ocean. I took some photos at high tide yesterday and the wind had blown the water up to the boardwalk here and of course brought heaps of sea weed with it.
Sunday is predicted to be another bad day so I hope they are wrong.
I have a little port left Judy. Hopefully I won't be needing it. The wind possibly wont worry me at Gracetown as it isn't my house to blow away, so maybe I'll be not too bad. Still a nice bottle to share would be nice.

I'm not exactly terrified but what is a bit creepy is the little boy a few properties up from us.
When ever I walk Harry he tends to jump out of nowhere, scares me every time.
Even when I say hello he puts on a scary voice Heelloo Mrrss Maacc.
-
He does sound creepy Michele.
Kezza, that tornado looked dreadful. I just watched the ABC news of it on my netbook. Really horrid.
It is a beautiful day here today and all my fears seem silly now. :-))

Well Cookie your high winds have decided to make an appearance here, blowing a hooley outside my window :D :D

Great you're having some good weather Cookie. DH can get back to fishing.
-
Maddy, you could have warned us before putting the ATO symbol on your post! I am more terrified of them than anything else!
I WOULD RATHER BE HOLDING THAT HUNTSMAN!
Agreed!
Loved reading all the posts and glad you're safe cookie.
I'm not scared of spiders or snakes, as long as I know where they are. My mother taught me to like spiders when I was young. We holidayed at Garden Island, off Rockingham and the shacks were full of giant huntsman spiders. She would give them names and talk to them.
I am scared of having to drive or tow big machinery. I hate it when I have to drive anything large or tow something. My worst fear is DH asking me to tow the truck with the ute so he can jump start it. The truck has to get at a certain speed for the brakes to get working. One day I slowed down too soon and the truck went straight into the back of the ute. All he was worried about was that the tow bar of the ute went through the radiator of the truck!
From that day on, I told DH that I was never going to tow him in the bloody truck again and buy a bloody battery that works! Except I think I used worse words than that....
-
Just when I thought it was all over we have had the police out here and the SES telling us that around midnight tonight (why is it always night??) there will be a tropical low and a low interacting over Exmouth to KALBARRI (we're in the middle) causing gale force winds, torrential rain and king tides. We had to pull the annexe down and put everything from it either into the car or van. All the rubbish bins have had to be moved inside etc. I guess cyclone people are used to this, but this is June and they should be gone.
I was ready to head home and DH said 'don't be silly.' Men :-[
Oh well, surely this will be the last time this holidays. At least the SES and police are here to help. They are even filling sandbags. Not sure why as it will be low tide when it happens. Another adventure for us all. :'( :'( :'(
-
Stay safe Cookie. If I was driving, you and I would be halfway home already ;)
-
Bloody hell - I'd be on my way home too :o
-
Cooke, take care, stay inside the caravan & dont go out.
H :)
-
Oh Cookie, I hope you have that bottle of port handy.
Stay inside, warm and safe. Hopefully it might turn out to be not as nasty as predicted.
-
Stay safe Cookie :-* :-*
-
I'd be sitting in the car, with the keys in the ignition, ready to go :o
Stay safe cookie.
-
Oh dear! Hope it doesn't eventuate. I just checked the BOM site and it looks pretty rough where you are cookie.
We also have a severe weather warning for the Great Southern tomorrow.

You should be worried, very worried, she says in her best impression of a stalker on the phone. 😄
No, won't be moving any time soon. It's our retreat for now. Hope to semi retire in a few years down there.
-
Well it's over and I live to be scared another day. It was pretty scarey there at times. We droped the roof of the van, we have a pop top van and then it was a matter of riding it out. About 3.30am it was horrid, poor DH has the bruises on him to proof it. I only needed 2 glasses of port :P and I'm no drinker so it helped to zonk me out.
This morning we are just gooing roound with others to help people who had things ripped etc. Lots of people left when the SES came out yestrrday.
It's now moving south so be prepared everyone and go into your house, not in a caravan.
DH decided this morning to test if it had been really windy. We use a satellite dish up here for tv and he said if that had been moved in the wind, it would be the true test. Of course it had been moved quite a lot. Now he has to agree about the wind.
We pack up tomorrow and leave on Tuesday and will be home lunch time Wednesday.
xxxxxxx to you all. The forum kept me semi sane in the last 24 hours or so.
-
Yay, our Cookie & her DH are safe - bet it was a long night, for you especially. I'm glad DH was convinced the wind was more than just a puff ;D :-* :-* :-*
-
Glad that you're safe and nothing untoward happened to you or your van.
We had gale force winds here just after I got home from doing a demo. Very scary. I was worried that the house would get water coming down the walls again since they've on,y just been repaired. Had a little water but not much to worry about. Still waiting for someone to come and fix the roof.
At least we had some rain as well. We've been worried that it was going to be a drought as we haven't really had our opening rains.

Are you in Perth MJ? I saw some news coverage on one of our local TV channels about damage in Perth from the winds. I think it said that a crane got blown over at that hospital thats being built! :o
-
No, Amy, home in Nyabing.
-
Well that sounds like a dinky like place! Is it one of the little farming communities?
-
Glad to hear you are safe and sound Cookie, and MJ too. I have just been reading about the storms and was wondering how you were getting along.
I'm afraid of wind too, as a teacher! Cookie you know what a windy day is like in school, I'm sure!
-
Ohh the storm in Perth today was scary. We still don't have power 6 hours later.
-

It looked horrific on the news medusa. I didn't hear if there were any injuries. I hope not! :(

Lelly, wind and school children just do not mix.
We had a saying 'Wind and rain affect the brain.'
I hated duty on windy and/or rainy days.

Oh me too! Kids are just nuts on windy days.

Wishing I had some of Cookies port right now. It has been pouring cats and dogs out here today.
There is a river running down the street and through the back of our property.
I've been up and unblocked one drain and that has diverted the water away from the house a bit.
Wish DH would get home. Looks like I might have to go dig a trench to get the water to run the other way.
And it's DH's birthday and 16 people coming for dinner.

Oh my Michele, that doesn't sound like much fun at all. And being DH's birthday as well :o
Hope the rain settles soon for you.
-
Uh-oh Michele!! Good luck with DH's birthday celebrations in the rain :-))
-
It's so hard trying to do things on your own Michele, I do hope DH gets home soon to help you. Please be careful climbing the ladder and I hope things don't get too much worse and that the birthday bash goes off well for you. Happy birthday to your DH. :-* :-*
-
And to think I have been whining about the drizzle that we are getting....I hope everyone on the west coast is safe and dry. You are all in my thoughts.
-
wow! Have seen the devastation in Perth =certainly hope it all settles down soon there!!! . . here in Sydney it simply has not stopped raining (and sometimes very heavily) for two days and cold as!! . . Saturday was beautiful so it was one day out of three for a long weekend . . :-)) ??? >:( >:( >:(
-
Finally got power back on after 26ish hours but for how long I am not sure, made sure we all had hot showers and are set if it goes out again. Apparently the worst is to come, fingers crossed for us sandgropers.

Oh dear :o Good luck to you medusa! We've had a lot of rain today too and I think there's more to come tonight... :(
In fact, I can hear the thunder now.
-
Hi to people in WA, NSW and Victoria,
I hope everyone is well and not too much affected by the recent wild weather you have been having.
Best wishes to all :)
-
I'm almost embarrassed to say this, but in Guildford we had stunning weather all weekend. Froze each night, but beautiful mostly cloud free days on all three days. Had a huge bonfire to get rid of all the prunings from the summer / autumn, then started a new pile of our winter rose prunings the next day!
The weather in Perth sounds fierce and all that rain in NSW .... it's hard to believe we were all in drought just a couple of years ago.
-
Oh my!! a bonfire!!!!! We used to love these, especially around "cracker night" . . . . you daren't even think about having a bonfire now in NSW . . . you'd cop a very hefty fine and be totally drummed out of the Brownies. There's no "backyard burning" allowed at all. :-))You can't even buy fireworks here anymore - but I believe you can in the ACT . . .go figure!!
-
They were the days GF - I remember them well. The same rules apply here in Sth Australia but as far as buying crackers is concerned, people are somehow getting their hands on them as you often hear them going around the streets at night and letting a few off. I know where I'd like to place one ;)
-
Yes, I heard about the weather in WA when we were driving home from a fantastic time on the York Peninsula in SA. We had calm days and cool nights for the long weekend. We built a bonfire on the beach both nights and it was amazing. We could hear the waves lapping on the shore, and when we looked up, the night sky was breathtaking. The milky way was really dense and there were so many stars visible. The kids toasted marshmallows amd we cooked potatoes in the fire. It made me realise how lucky we are, but i really feel for all the people in WA battling the harsh conditions. I hope you all stay safe.
-
Hope everyone is staying safe in WA. Weather on the Lake today has eased off.
DH had a lovely birthday celebration and we only got some moderate water damage in the granny flat.
-
Great to hear the day was a success Michele.
-
Here comes the storm... :-[
By tomorrow I might have to add "severe storms" to the list of things I am terrified of! We'll see how we go tonight :-\
-
Take care Amy :)
-
Its here too. Very loud, had to rurn tv up very high.
All together, still watching tv. Warming from school, coud be closed tomorrow.
Hopefully all ok, they say worst 10. -12 tonight.
We are safe for sure& warm.
Stay safe everyone,
.
H :)
-
Keep the updates rolling in girls, stay safe :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Take care Amy :)
Thanks Mandi :) I just hope my doggies don't get too scared with all the thunder. They are both 11 years old and it would be devastating for us if one of them had a heart attack :(
I think I will also have to move Jo Blo Bubbles because his little tank is right next to a window and the lightening flashes through the curtains. I suppose fish can get scared? I don't know, but I don't want to risk him having a heart attack either! :o
Hally, hope you are still okay. I always worry when the weather gets like this. It can be so unpredictable :-\
Best wishes to all our fellow WA-ers too :-*
-
Oh wow Jo Blo Bubbles is still alive :o, thought you would of killed him off by now lol..
And I can understand your concern with your older dogs, we like to take extra care of our older pets. My dog is almost 12 and my cat is almost 15 and we do tend to spoil them more :)
-
Very funny Mandi.... lol :D
There have been a couple of instances when I thought I'd killed him, but it seems that he just likes lying down in his tank. Lazy little bugger!
Yeah, pets become part of the family don't they? And they are most certainly spoilt, sometimes I think they have a better life than me! But then I remind myself that they can only play with balls and ropes, not TM, so the thought vanishes pretty quick :-)) I suppose 11-12 years is probably about grandma age for dogs, and I think a 15 year old cat would have to be prehistoric ;)
-
I read somewhere that my cat would be somewhere between 75-100 years old. Apparently that depends on of they are inside or outside cats. My old boy spent his first 9 years outside and the last 6 years inside and outside as we felt sorry for him in winter :D
So I'm not sure how old he would be. But he is starting to really show his age now.

-
Nawwww, what a cutie!! Does he have a name? He's definitely showing his age with all those white patches though :-))
Interesting what you say about it being different for inside or outside cats. It makes sense, but at the same time it doesn't lol ???
At least you know he's had a good life with you Mandi. That's what I think about all my pets. No matter how short or long their life turns out to be, I know I have always cared for them as best I can and treated them with the love that all living beings deserve ;D
-
Dozer is his name Amy, my eldest son was 2 when we got him and he loved trucks and bull dozers and big machinery at the time so he called him Bull Dozer. But I shortened it to just Dozer :)
Glad he didn't call him truck :D
-
Dede, Dozer is gorgeous.
We are all fine here, have power & a roof. All 3 of us bed together last night, LOL. Boy it was soooo loud, not much sleep. Dread to think whats in our pool.
How is everyone else?
H :)
-
Can't see much outside yet but we are all fine, have power and appear to have a house intact :)
I don't think it was quite as intense as Sunday but was bad enough to keep me awake for most of the night too.
Hope everyone else fared well :-* :-*
-
Yes I agrre I think sunday wasworse, they really hyped up last nights.
Faffa Was wondering how you were as waikiki got hit badly on sunday.
Hopefully school is on.
H :)
-
Good to hear you are safe and sound.
-
Glad you are all safe and sound. :)

How adorable Mandi! :D Truck would have been a bit weird, but not as weird as Forklift :-))
Is the storm all over up in Perth? We had howling winds and really heavy rain all night, like you did Hally. The thunder wasn't too bad so our doggies didn't get too upset :) The wind is still very strong and it was pelting hail a few minutes ago, but I'm hoping it will ease off soon. I didn't get any sleep last night but I'm just glad nothing got blown through my window.
-
Glad to hear you are all OK albeit without much sleep last night - no storm here but I only had 4.6 hours myself so there are going to be a lot of tired people around the country today.
-
H i think one of niece live near waikiki and there was no power there
-
My DS (16) just got is motor bike license a few minutes ago and rode to work just now. I don't like motor bikes much and that scares me.

Oh no dede, I feel for you! I'm sure you've given him the lecture on safety etc. Motorbike riders look so vulnerable on the road with all those big vehicles. Sorry - probably just made you feel worse!
-

Don't blame you dede.
It will be scary for his girlfriends mother when he's allowed pillion passengers.
-
I hope he takes notice of what I have told him :)
It's only a 125cc so that's a bonus (not to much power)

Oh dear :o :o :o
I'm definitely not a fan of motorbikes. At all. Too many horrible stories :(
-

That's a good thing dede.
I know boys do silly things and are risk takers but on the bright side....he won't have any passengers that he will want to show off to(like in a car) and you raised him. Have some faith in your mothering skills.
I know you can't predict other drivers mistakes.
-
Luckily his work is only a couple of minutes away. He has been riding bikes all his life, but sharing the road with other drivers is so much different.
He's not overly confident as yet so that will make him be more cautious for awhile I hope.
-
Get him to contact the MRA (Motorcycle Rider's Association) or some similar organisation who teach defensive driving courses for motorcyclists. When I first started riding motorbikes I did one of these courses and it saved my life when some idiot turned right in front of me without looking - I knew what to do .. dropped the bike - it went under the car, I went over it. Still ended up in hospital, but at least I was alive.
The courses are excellent, though, they teach you to watch road conditions, pot holes, oil, etc. and generally how to be more aware of what is going on around you and what to do if you find yourself in a potentially dangerous situation, such as the one I found myself in. They also give you a lot more confidence, i.e. teach you slow riding control and so on. You are more vulnerable on bikes so anything you can do to keep yourself safe is worth learning.
-
He had to do a 2 day course before he could get is motor bike license where they taught him lots of different things and what to watch out for. I think it's compulsory now for everyone to do these courses first.
-
That's very good - very reassuring. So long as he remembers to treat every other driver on the road as a complete and utter moron / idiot, he stands a good chance of riding safely and staying upright.
