On Sunday, I am in charge of providing the desserts for about 30 people at a special birthday lunch for my parents.
I want to make a special cake, big enough for everyone, as well as other desserts. I am also limited by the fact that I will be out almost all of Saturday and need to do the cooking tomorrow.
I made some macarons yesterday that i will fill tomorrow. I was thinking of making brownies, Tenia 's Crio Misu , maybe cupcakes and/ or a blackberry and apple crumble. Maybe those yummy Portuguese custard tarts. Any suggestions would be warmly appreciated.

This is a great too easy cake you can make a couple of days in advance and leave in fridge. I fed 15 at a birthday party. The servings were generous. If you put it into a square pan you could feed 30 as it is soooo dense and rich. There is a pic of it too. I am not a cake baker but thesis one I have made many times now. Takes about 10 minutes.
My DH requests this for every "occasion".

The portugese tarts would be yummy. What about mini lemon tarts as well just using puff pastry and filling with lemon curd?

I have had great success, from both children and adults alike, for the Almond cake from Santiago/Galicia. It's in MWoC.
Basically it's 250g of almonds, ditto of sugar, the zest of one lemon, four eggs. Coarsely chopped (only 15sec), ground to icing with zest, and beaten respectively. Then all added together, into a b.paper lined springform, and 40ish mins at 180 or 160.
I have lent the book to someone so I can't give the exact details but that's roughly it...

Cheesecakes have always been a winner in my family. I have a cheesecake book which I just convert recipes from as I make them, which is quite easy. Cheesecakes are also good because they can just sit in the fridge.
Sorry I don't have any specific recipes though :-\

Thanks for your ideas. I might have to visit the bottle shop tomorrow and buy some stout. I have made a stout chocolate cake many moons ago and may still have the recipe lurking somewhere. From memory, it was really rich and chocolatey.
I also love cakes with almonds and citrus, but don't have the cookbook with the recipe. I could make the whole orange and almond cake too - I think Nigella has a chocolate version too.
I've got lots of limes at the moment so I could make some curd or a cheesecake. I don't know why I didn't think of cheesecake Amy. I've got a book just on cheesecakes too. So many possibilities

No, it's called "100 fabulous Cheesecakes" and is on old Australian Women's Weekly Golden Press book, first published in 1971.

With mandarins in season at the moment, this Almond and Mandarin cake (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=9963.0) is quick and easy and can be made a day or two in advance as well. You should get approx. 10 to 12 portions from it and probably more if you made it as a slice as opposed to a cake.
Sorry, you were looking for desserts and this is more of a cake, but you could easily get away with it if you added cream / yoghurt / citrus sauce, etc. with it.

Amy, I have one big box of lemons to juice tonight off my tree.
I have been juicing lemons for about 3 weeks now.
I froze about another 8 litres last nite.

I did a double batch of sticky date muffins (from EDC - well I just put it into muffins) and b.scotch sauce for my vis on Sun, they seem to go down well with young and old alike, very quick and easy too. :)

Thankyou for all the suggestions. We had a lovely lunch today with some lovely desserts. I ended up making the Guinness chocolate cake as the birthday cake and it turned out really well, so thanks Gert for the suggestion. I used Coopers Stout instead of Guinness.
I also made a lemon cheesecake with a raspberry jelly topping (thanks Amy), Tenia's Crio Misu, Macarons, Chocolate Almond clusters, Easy Apple Tea Cupcakes, and Crio Bru Brownies. There wasn't much left over - one cupcake, some brownies a couple of spoonfuls of the Crio Misu and some birthday cake
