Name of Recipe: Chicken, Bacon & Cheddar Sausage Rolls
Number of People: Makes 24 or more if you cut them smaller
Ingredients:
180g cheddar cheese, cubed
100g stale bread, broken into pieces
75g bacon, roughly chopped
2 spring onions, cut the whole onion, green tops as well into 5cm batons
130g carrot cut into 5cm chunks
140g apple, cut into 1/4's and cored
handful parsley leaves
500g chicken mince
2 tblspn tomato chutney
1 tsp salt
good few grindings black pepper
3 sheets puff pastry or butter puff, thawed
1 egg whisked into 60mls milk
Sesame or poppy seeds for sprinkling on top
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 200oC. Line 2 trays with baking paper.
Place cheese and bread into the TM bowl and grate 6 sec/speed 8. Set aside into a large container.
Place bacon and spring onions into bowl and chop for 3 sec/speed 6. Add to other ingredients.
Place carrot, apple and parsley into bowl and chop for 3 sec/speed 6. Add to other ingredients.
Add the chicken mince, chutney, S & P to the other ingredients and mix in by hand, squishing it through your fingers to mix thoroughly.
Cut pastry sheets in half. Take a handful of the filling and shape it into a log. Place it along the centre of each piece of pastry. Brush the eggwash on the side furtherest from you and firmly roll the pastry over the meat, pressing to seal the edge.
Cut each length into 4 rolls. Into 6 if you want smaller rolls.
Place the rolls onto the lined trays leaving a 4cm gap between each one. Brush with remaining egg wash and sprinkle with your seeds of choice.
Bake for 25 - 30 minutes until golden and cooked through.
This is a recipe from Dairy Australia's Dairy Kitchen which was in our daily paper - easily converted to make good use of the Thermomix.

Thank you JD, lucky duck I have all the ingredients apart from the chutney, so will just leave it out.
Excitement ;D

Any sort of relish could be added Hally - even the garlic paste .
-
They sound lovely Judy.
-
Judy, sounds like a good mixture. Thanks.
H, could use tomato or chilli sauce to replace chutney.
-
Thanks, I will be making these for the weekend either today or tomorrow.

I added in a crushed garlic clove also.
I liked that they didn't seem as fatty as a regular sausage roll.

Ooh these look lovely, another one for my to do list

Made a double batch of these for a function and there wa plenty for our lunch too. Bumping because they were yum and I think you should all go forth and make them .

Glad you enjoyed them Coops. Thanks for the review.

These look and sound great - just might have to make a batch for the freezer for after bub (of course I will have to try
one some before freezing!!) ;)

I love it when people make something I haven't made for ages. Thanks for the reminder about these, they are lovely.
-
Made these today for when the grand children arrive tomorrow. They love them and always ask for them.
-
Thanks for bumping this. We love them and I haven't made them for ages.
-
Miss 12 and I made these the other night - and they get the "tick of yum" in our house.
Will be making these again and what a ripper recipe to make extras of and freeze uncooked for those nights when you want something easy for tea.
-
Nice to see DD involved in some cooking with you Nikkit, nice review thank you.

Judy, Miss 12 is my cook. She loves it. She bought a Jamie Oliver book for herself the other day saying that it would "last forever, because I'll always cook" and she has made about 5 dishes from it so far for us.
She is menu planning at the moment as we've bought ingredients for recipes - and then can't remember what we were going to cook!
I just love it when she says "Mum, I'll cook tea tonight".
Can't say no to that! :) :)
-
When I buy ingredients for a specific recipe these days, I write that recipe alongside the ingredients but also have a list of 'to do recipes' that I have bought ingredients for. It is so easy to forget. Your 12 year old is wonderful, lucky you and isn't it great that she has so much interest in cooking at her age.
-
Will try that tip Judy - thanks :)
Yes I am lucky that Miss 12 loves cooking, Miss almost 17 is not interested at all. She just eats when she is hungry! If she offered to cook tea I think I'd fall over!!
