Title: My home away from home
Post by: cookie1 on May 27, 2012, 09:46:51 am
Here we are sitting at Monkey Mia and doing very little for a month.

The little dinghy is what we put on the top of the car to travel. When we go east we leave the boat at home. The trees keep the afternoon sun off us. Note the wonderful flag flying in the breeze. That tells us when it is too windy to go fishing. (as in the photo)

Looks great Cookie.  My parents used to go away for months at a time up through NSW and Queensland in their caravan.  Absolutely loved the life they did.  My mum still talks fondly of their times away.  :D

I used to love camping, never graduated to a caravan but loved tenting - that was all in another life though.  A great set up you have there Cookie.

Oh cookie what a wonderful little home away from home you have.

My parents dream was to do that but unfortunately God had better plans for dad  :'(

One day I will live their dream for them.

That's sad Mandi, many a dream has been curtailed by illness having it's way. Hopefully you can take your Mum away with you sometime in the future.

There is no time like the present to do whatever it is that is your dream - make the most of every opportunity as the day will come where you just cannot do it.  We were lucky in that we did all our travelling from the day we were married and although it was hard at times, we had many wonderful holidays before it all became just too hard and with no insurance company prepared to cover DH, we have had to accept the fact there will be no more cruises for us.

Some sad stories there.  :-* :-* :-* :-*

My DH has had the policy all our 44 years together to do it now, then in later years if we can we do it again, if we can't we've already done it and have the memories.

CC you are welcome anytime.

looks like you have a perfect little set up there cookie, and housework probably takes you about 5 mins a day if you can be bothered. Would love to be eating some of that fresh fish also.

Cookie, I am jealous. We used to go camping a lot when the children were smaller (mine). We had a Jayco pop up. Recently our business has kept us too busy so power holidays have been the go. My DH wants to get a new VW combie van customised and travel with that, when we retire I think.

Cookie, what do you about food, it costs a fortune up there. How much can you take up with you.

Looks very nice and everything you need.
Love the idea of the flag.  Quick look out the window.  Fishing yes/no.  Good book  yes/no..    :)
We had planned to travel but suddenly having full time care of DGS put that on hold.
We are now in the process of changing to home schooling him and that may give us a bit of freedom.

Hally, we bring a lot of food with us. We bring a freezer that is stocked with meat and pre- prepared foods and vegies. All I buy in Denham is lettuce and tomatoes. We have the bread maker.

CP you are right about the housework. Wipe over the shower and toilet, sweep the floor. Once a week wipe over the surfaces for the dust. No ironing. DH puts the washing on while I'm still goofing off in bed. We have a tiny twin tub machine with us too.

Talk about taking the kitchen sink with you Cookie  :o  Surely that doesn't fit in the van somewhere?

No Judy, it goes on the back of the van in it's own little box. DH loves making boxes for everything.

Everyone singalong now -

Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky-tacky,
Little boxes, little boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.
