Title: Help with mud stains
Post by: dede on May 27, 2012, 12:24:31 am
My DS 16 come home from football yesterday with mud caked all over his footy gear. I have washed everything but his white (yes white) shorts (2 pair) are still really stained. I have scrubbed them with SARD soap but there are still stains. I don't want to bleach them as there is a red stripe down each side (he wouldn't be impressed if they turned pink) ;)
Any other suggestions.

Dede . . try soaking them in a bucket or tub of water with a good dose of Napisan , , leave them a few hours or even  in a day or so!!  Then put them through the washing machine (I don't use any soap/detergent for this) . . .  Worked a treat for DS grass stained cricket gear . . and now any gardening gear that gets caked with mud, etc.  Hope this works for you!!

Tip:  Teach him what works and how to do it . . . then he's responsible for keeping his own sports gear in good order!! ;D

Well I think that's the next step. I will soak them over night and see how that goes. Don't want to send him to football with stained shorts. We have had heaps and heaps of rain the day before so all the players were covered from head to toe with mud. On the up side my DS's team won by 5 points :)

Well done DS.  Sounds as if there will be plenty of Mums in the same predicament then Mandi - it wi'll be interesting to see who ends up with the whitest of whites  ;)

Thanks DG, if only I read this first before doing anything :(
Well shorts have been soaked and washed (after sard treatment) I need to get some more napisan before I can do an over night soak. They are still stained. Won't give up yet.

Mandi I have found the best solution for my stains is soaking in nappysan and then hanging in the sunshine. The combination of the two seems to be the winner ... hope you have some sunshine this week  :D :D

Dede, we use nappysan or similar for all our out door clothes.  Needs to soak for a day.

Well I kind of tried that today Faffa after a scrub with sard and wash then hang in the......(cloudy overcast day/sun at times). Once I get some napisan I will give them a good soak and out in the sun hopefully :)

I think I'm now an expert at getting stains out of really really muddy football shorts. I have had to scrub and soak, scrub and soak DSs white football shorts 4 times now thanks to wet muddy grounds :(
Firstly I rinse off as much mud as I can then use sard to lift the stains. I was them. Then soak them over night in white king stain remover powder. Then another scrub with sard, rinse and another soak in white king again. Then one last scrub with sard and a final wash. (all nice and white again)
The last time he come home his shorts were caked in red mud and that has been the hardest to clean.
No football team should have a white uniform :(

I have a good photo of a before shot dede!.....this is my boy last week

a face only a Mother could Love  :P

LOL....I know exactly what your going through  :P....your just very unlucky your boy has white shorts!!!...clearly, a male designed their uniform!  LOL

the best method for me so far is to dunk them in warm water straightaway, and get the mud off.
then spray all over with preen oxy action spray, leave for a while, then soak in nappysan.....some times you have to repeat the soaking  :-))

Coke is only good for washing.  Never ever drink it as it can dissolve the enamel off your teeth.
Maddy,  love the photo.
Dede, white shorts look good.

Well they have now had a rinse then scrub with sard then another rinse, another scrub with sard and then I sprayed them with miracle spray then a wash through machine. Look much better but still not clean. So now another scrub with sard and soaking in a bucket of napisan :D

Very impressive mandi.. If stainsare too tough i just give p.. Get sick of rewashing and scrubbing...

Re coke yes very bad.. Forgotbo mention re dh and the doctor saying he has diabetes etc.. We gotba second opinion from our gp who did a thorugh testing.. Blood, urine etc with every test known to man and turned out the culpurite was coke.. Dh used to drink 1.5 l a day min.. Anyway after years it pushed his sugar levels through the roof.. At fasting levels. After a very strict diet of no form of sugars and a fourth test the results strangely came back to normal so no diabetes like the first doc said.. So yes coke is very bad and dh very lucky.. He still hasnt touched a drop of coke since.. Think he got good and scared..good to know it gets stains out though..!  Also good o get a second opinion..
