Title: Pleased to be here
Post by: Grubbybub on May 23, 2012, 11:21:08 pm
Hello

I am a recent new TMX owner, wife, mum to 10 month old son and a part-time senior manager. We live in beautiful Sydney, Australia and frequently travel interstate to see our families. Visits from the grandparents are also happening more often now.

Life has always been pretty busy but these days I have so little time that I'm looking for every time saving idea.

I like to keep the freezer stacked with heat and serve meals. I try to plan ahead well enough to have one grocery order delivered every two weeks (I buy fresh meat and fish locally more often). I would like to stop buying some things in favour of making them, like ice cream to start with (we are addicted to Homer Hudson chocolate rock). I'm looking for smart ways to keep organized with yummy, healthy meals and snacks for my son.

I'm hoping I'll learn lots of this and more from all of you!

So far I have made vegetable stock concentrate, vanilla custard, chicken risotto, orange and almond cake, chocolate cake (most from EDC).

Hi Grubbybub, welcome to the forum.  Your life certainly sounds very busy but you must be managing your time well so the TMX is going to be a great helper for you. New babies are magnets for grand-parents so that's not surprising that they are dropping in more often - this of course means you have to have snacks for them to have with their coffee and nothing whips up a batch of scones more quickly than this wonderful machine.  Try Nay-Nay's family scone recipe here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2344.0) on the forum or one of the many countless varieties of biscuits or cakes. The beauty of our recipes is that people try and generally give the recipe a review, post photos, make some changes or substitutes of ingredients to suit their family's likes and dislikes and you therefore end up with a more comprehensive feeling for the recipe.

Hi grubbybub - Welcome!! I am a newbie too who has little ones so am looking for healthy, time saving foods. I LOVED the orange almond cake! And technically its a healthy cake. My kids really enjoyed the 'best coconut cake' EDC book

Hello too - from another Sydneysider - on the northern side!
You sound as if you're brilliantly organised with how you are doing your groceries and using your freezer!
Regards
Gillian. :)

Thanks everyone. Great forum - wonderful recipes and such friendly people.

I didn't mean to sound like I've got everything under control - certainly doesn't feel that way! I really hope to learn how other people juggle busy schedules and keep eating well at the same time. We've got a tiny freezer (and everything else - living on sydney's LNS) so everything I do has to be both time and space efficient. How perfect is the TMX for me?!

My freezer meal 'regulars' include bolognaise sauce and slow cooker beef stew. Sometimes I also have pork casserole, chicken casserole and soups. I also keep some chicken breasts and lamp rumps in the freezer because they can cook in 20 min without any fuss.

I've had a big restocking day today. Starting from the time I got up I've made:
Porridge
Apple purée
Pear purée
Apple baked custard (not a huge success - curdled I think)
Bacon, leek and tomato risotto (as posted by Thermomixer)
Minestrone soup
Bolognaise sauce (incl making my own pork mince)
And I Love Bimby's chocolate cake (in the oven now - thanks for the tip Robyn!)

I also found some frozen cookie dough so am having a warm cookie and milk while I type this and my little boy sleeps. What a wonderful day!

Tomorrow I will be looking for chicken casserole recipes... Any suggestions?

There are pages and pages of chicken recipes on this forum Grubbybub - click on Main Dishes then type 'chicken' in the search bar, they will all then be listed for you. I'm sure something you like will jump out at you.
