Title: Advice when ordering breakfast
Post by: fundj&e on May 20, 2012, 10:28:58 pm
Please tell your friendly  ;D wait person 2 things

1. How you would like your eggs, scrambled, poached, fried, spoon some oil over eggs while frying  >:(, sunny side up, sunny side down, hard boiled medium boiled, soft boiled  :-))

2. Bread, white, whole meal, sourdough, Turkish, multigrain, thick or thinly sliced
I was forever going back to the table and asking. I wish could read minds but i cannot, so please tell us what the bloody hell you want.  ;D

I spent most of the weekend working, breakfast and lunch, thank god all of the dinner staff showed up
I don’t think i would have made it working from 7am to 1am on Saturday

OMG the breakfast shift was so bloody hard it’s so much different to the dinner shift

ps my legs are killing me  ;D

You made it through the weekend, next time it will be easier.
Standing on your feet for 12 - 15 hours is no fun.

Ok I want two eggs, one sunny side up. The other I want poached but no vinegar in the water. Put the poached egg  on mulit grain Turkish bread toasted on one side only. The sunny side friend egg  please put on sour dough  not toasted but warmed in the oven not the salamander.

A LARGE cup of strong black coffee with organic  soy non-milk on the side warmed in a metal jug .

And I do not want any bloody sprouts on a sad lettuce leaf with snail trails.

Or my usual, one egg cooked Any way the chef wants to . Toasted any bread with REAL butter and a cup of black coffee. And no lip from the sad hag serving me.

Pronto please.

Graci.

Gert

Uni, I don't usually eat breakfast as it makes me feel sick.

So I will just have a Mocha with no sugar thanks.

I will then have breakfast about 9am. Egg intolerance, so NO eggs thanks.

Pancakes (can be made with eggs) with chopped bananas, chopped nuts and a good dollop of thick vanilla yoghurt and and a swirl of passionfruit pulp would be nice please  ;D

When they're paying for it Robyn they want it exactly how they like it and the world is full of fussy eaters  ;)

If I was eating out, give me an egg, cooked anyway you like on a piece of any sort of toast you want to give me, some baked beans and a piece of bacon followed by white coffee.  Easy to please.

Try and stick to the dinner shift if you can Uni, it sounds a whole heap easier for you.  Let the young ones do for the fussy eaters, they'll tell them where to go.

When I was waitressing many many moons ago I used to make pretty good tips but in one restaurant the owner kept all the tips. I soon grew big boobs on the job.

Once in a club I served a party  of 25 by myself. Each person put in a couple of bucks or more for "the waitress who did such a good job" but the b***h who was collecting the money from her club mates kept it all then announced she was putting the overs in the kitty for next time. All the others, who knew  me ,  were mortified. I just shrugged my shoulders.

In an  wanker yacht club the commodore's wife was showing off her skills on how to humiliate the waitress when said waitress accidentally spilled  steak Diane down the back of her white sharkskin suit. Cost the club a lot of money to pay for the dress but the waitress never got the sack and lived to tell the tale. She also got a standing ovation from the kitchen staff. Well ok they were Already standing but i did get applause. Do not mess with the waitress. She has power over the diner.

So true Uni.

Title: Re: Advice when ordering breakfast
Post by: keiramax on May 21, 2012, 04:20:51 am
Uni, you need to given them a little sheet like you get when ordering your breakfast from room service or when in hospital.  Just check off the options you want, then hand back to the waitress.

Or better still, surely there is an app for an iphone/ipad out there where you just select the restaurant, view their menu and select what you want to order, add the table number and send it directly to the kitchen.

Maybe there's a new concept to explore, hmm might have to look into that one.

working in the food industry is a lot different to making good food at home. Everyone is an expert when they have to pay for it. Thankfully I'm not a coffee drinker so I don't know all the different variations. Us tea drinkers have to mostly put up with a pot of boiling water and a tea bag, and milk on the side so we can make our own so we have learnt to be grateful if we get real tea leaves in a pot

Ah cp you come to my house and there is not a tea bag in sight nor instant coffee. In fact I have never even bought a jar of instant coffee and only tea bags for my DIL who likes all those fake teas.

OMG what to do in Gracetown?

I ain't sitting on any cold rocks!  I saw an espresso machine in one of the houses. I am gunna go early and steal it. Most places these days have plungers at least  so I can bring tea leaves and real coffee anyway.

Remember last week when i said that i lied to a customer about GF bread was homemade, well ,he called yesterday asking if he could buy a loaf for me, but spoke to DIL, >:( i could have killed her she told him  that he  could make it himself its very easy she said, just mix with water and bake it, she even told him the price at C and where to find it.   >:( >:( >:(

Anyway he still wants me to make it for him, but now i don’t know what the price should be
If he didn’t know the price, i would have charged him $30.00

We have had salespeople do exactly that in the past....they tell people where we get certain items and what we pay...argh...I think sometimes they think we are a not for profit organisation....but I will quite happily tell people where to get things that we don't sell or don't want to sell.....it is a difficult line in the sand to draw.

I wish someone was around to sell breakfast to me this morning...its cold and wet here and it was an effort to get up....breakfast was egg and bacon on the ciabatta I made last yesterday but apparently neither of the mere males in my house were able to make it.  Although they both inhaled it when it was made...complete with complaints from the husband about his latte being cold.  I responded suitably to that complaint...its so easy to fry bacon & eggs, slice bread, make a banana smoothie and a coffee all at the same time whilst others lounge in bed :P.

Dont be embarrased uni - we have all followed recipes but not had them work out.  It could be the same for him and the bread because it does still take skill to know when it has risen enough etc.

I would still charge $15-20 for the loaf - pkt mix, time, electricity etc.

Hahah!

Uni, just tell him that you were mistaken, you thought it was a home made loaf. You could always try to make Cyndi's Bread (http://www.recipecommunity.com.au/recipes/gluten-free-bread-cyndis-modified-supersized/27432) Supersized! There's also a nice GF loaf (http://www.recipecommunity.com.au/recipes/gluten-free-rice-bread/40731) on the recipe community.

For breakie, I adore a good Eggs Florentine with Smoked Salmon on the side, but none of that bought Hollandaise! Love a good slice of sourdough or rye bread, but on the side, not all soggy with the eggs on top.

I refuse to drink instant coffee, I normally drink tea but allow myself one cup of percolated coffee per day. I have a little Breville percolator that's been going strong for about 10 years.

I agree, Amy, it's hard to find a good coffee in Albany. Dome is passable, but their breakfast is boring.

So true! I have only been to Dome for breakfast twice, but I swear I am never going again. Its just not worth it :P I usually go to Dylan's for coffee, but they have a few different barristas and not all of them are good :(
One word of advice: never buy coffee from Solomon's. They only fill the cup halfway. Rip-offs!

Better bring your Breville with you MJ. I am bringing a plunger and coffee for my house just in case.

Can do. I use Yahava coffee, which is just lovely.

Thanks for the warning Amy! I usually go to Dylan's for breaky. They're so busy though!

The very worst coffee shop in Albany is that one in the Chester Pass Rd Shopping Centre. Their food is horrible.

Megajane,  I'm with you on the tea.  I'm addicted to the t2 teas, at the moment my favourites are the Artic Fire, Really Russian Caravan and the Chilli Kiss (really has chilli in it).  I also like some of their chai blends.  Breakfast for me yesterday was fresh ciabatta with capsicum chilli jam and an enormous cup of chilli kiss tea.  Perfect for a cold wet morning.

Yeah but it tastes sooooooo good.  I'm just having my first chilli kiss for the morning now :).  It's $13 a packet but I normally get 30 cups out of a packet and I would spend that much on a bottle of average wine....it's even cheaper per cup than the coffee pods for aldi (or about the same....it's too early for maths)

Yeah, they do get very busy don't they? It was packed on Saturday morning when my mum and I tried to get a coffee! We ended up getting take-aways but still had to wait nearly 20 minutes :-)) They do really good pancakes though. I would be tempted to say the best in Albany...
Do you know of any cafes down here that do porridge for breakfast? The only one I know of is Tonic, but I don't like their coffee :(

I have never been to that one MJ. And I'm definitely not going now! Thanks for the tip ;)

Sorry, no, don't know any that do porridge. Probably because it doesn't keep, really has to be made and eaten straight away. They should do Bircher Muesli, but none seem to be that adventurous!

Never mind, I'm sure no cafe could do better than TM porridge anyway! :-)) ;D
Yeah, Bircher Muesli would be good! Dome does normal muesli, but I had it once and it was pathetic. I had to go home and have some cereal afterwards because it just wasn't a satisfying or filling breakfast. I'm starting to get very bored with breakfast menus. There's always plenty of choice in the egg department, but I don't like eggs :(

Maybe I should open a breakfast cafe with my TM and serve all the good stuff, like porridge, pancakes, crepes, muesli, granola, yoghurt... I suppose eggs would have to be on the menu too...
