What are you cooking today?
« Reply #35655 on: June 04, 2021, 07:23:56 am »
I'm making a plain cake this afternoon. I guess you call it a butter cake. It is a recipe from my Aunt and makes a big one.
When I was shopping on Wednesday I saw a cute little, two layer butter cake. It was about 10cm in diameter. It was $7, so I have made part of this butterrcake into a 10cm cake. I think it wouldn't have cost me $7 for the large cake I'm making.

Excuse my crappy icing. I happened to have some of the green in the fridge.

Yippee, today I have made and did the calories and carb numbers for my Chicken meat loaf.  I used 2% fat turkey mince . It made an extremely tasty loaf with 6 serves at 217 calories and 18.5 carbs. I cost less than $10.

I’ve seen those little cakes at my supermarket cookie, I guess they’re OK for people who don’t cook and want to spoil themselves on their birthday if they live alone. Your idea is much more cost effective and there’s nothing like a home baked cake as far as taste goes.
Marina I love reading your weekend cook up plans, it all sounds so tasty.
Great meatloaf Chookie.

Generally I don’t  like bought cakes.  There is something commercial about the taste, except for the Passionfruit Sponge from a Cafe in Ballarat.  I think it is made by a local lady. I think Cookies cake with the green icing would taste very nice. I made a Diabetic Zuchinni cake.  It Is very nice but pretty high in calories.
Yesterday we eac had a serve of the Turkey meat loaf.  It was extremely filling.  I think I probably should have made 8 serves instead of 6.

It is a pretty big piece Chookie, I certainly couldn’t eat that much.
Today I made a batch of quiches in the pie maker but the recipe was terrible, too much flour made them gluggy so into the bin they went.  Not to be beaten I remembered Chookie had posted a recipe that everyone loved, including me!  Why try a new recipe where there is an existing recipe on the forum with so many positive reviews, whatever was I thinking.  So of course it was successful and I was able to eat it quite easily, I had half of the little one so there are plenty more serves in the big one for the freezer. Thanks Chookie, maybe I should  refer to the tried and true forum recipes more often.

I like the look of your turkey meatloaf Chookie. I’ve made a Classic loaf today and it has taken all day to rise. I also tried a rye SD loaf from the book I bought. I think it may be a 24 hour rising for that. It is cool here.

Today I made some Spinach & Ricotta pastries, a big pot of vegetable soup to use up some sad veggies from the fridge, a batch of date scones and a Beef Stroganoff for dinner for the men.
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.

I copied everyone and made
Chookie's quiche for dinner last night. I had run out of bacon so made do with what I had.
I have made a rye SD to go in the fridge overnight and have Chookie's No Fuss roll recipe going to make into the cheese and ham rolls.

I love the way it looks when it’s puffed up.
Nice cooking Katie.
