faulty machine?!

A very good friend of mine bought a TMX from one of my demos and she has had lots of trouble.  She was constantly getting error messages (i think the numbers were in the high 30s) and then I think the machine stopped working.  Anyway, HQ were very good about it and they had it back to her within a week after she sent it in for repairs.

The sad part is that it has happened again and I was over at her place this morning and she was forlornly packing the TMX back up to have it looked at again.  More error messages but this time it was 20-something.

Has anyone else heard of this happening?  Does it sound like a dud machine?  She is very disappointed, as you can imagine.  She has asked for a replacement machine but apparently the policy is they will only replace if, in their opinion, it can't be repaired...

She has had the machine a couple of months, tops.

That is a real bummer. In my opinion it should be replaced, the dud one repaired and sold at a discount. There would be plenty of buyers for it and not a big loss to the company.

Similar thing happened to one of my friends who bought after my demo - the machine started to smell like it was burning during use - sadly the consultant wasn't overly helpful, and wanted $60.00 for the machine to be returned and looked at (it was only a couple of months old).  My fiend refused to pay.  Overall, the customer service here was not good.   Although after much ill-feeling and heated discussion I think the machine is back and working.  although my friend doesn't have the same level of confidence in it.

I think Thermomox should simply have replaced it.  Its not as if its a 70.00 stab blender from Big W!  Its made me a bit wary about recommending to others that they should buy at this price given our poor experience in this case.  Thoughts?

I can fully understand that Catherine. People don't expect cheap things to give problems much less things that cost $2000. I have been wondering if things have been slipping up because of the huge number of machines being sold. Perhaps Thermomix need to set up a specialised 'fix it' section. These are purely my thoughts. I tend to go into a bit of a panic if mine does something out of the ordinary. I would be really lost without it and also very angry if something went wrong after paying so much.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Speaking of the cost of the TMX reminded me that someone told me they saw the demo at the Farmers' Market in Wayville, Sth Aust a couple of weeks ago and the price of the TMX was being touted as $1750 - how can that possibly be?????? If the person who told me that got it wrong, his wife didn't contradict him at all. Anyone know anything about these demos at the market. ???

I'm very disappointed for my friend - I don't think it's good enough to pay that amount of money for something and to have to return it twice in as many months!  The Australian reps need to realise that a product like TMX will rise and fall on the experiences and word of mouth of each person who has a machine - and if any of those experiences are negative, the word will get around.  I know if I had read on the internet about this type of thing prior to having a TMX I would have been much more wary.  She gets it back today, so will see how it goes...

I'm really sorry that Australian TMX can't take a leaf from the UK TMX people.   They are remarkably helpful (as  I've mentioned on a few occasions here) and extremely customer-focussed. 

Just recently, my MC fell apart in my hands whilst I was washing it (sheared into 2 - most bizarre :o) so I rang them up and I had a replacement in my hands within 2 days, no questions asked.

Oh dear....... not feeling to good now.   I am currently try to get a problem sorted with my machine.  My machine has an intermittent whistling noise.  I am borrowing my consultants bowl for the day this week to try and figure out if it is a bowl or base issue.  But the noise is intermittent and I can't be sure it will do it anyway!  Frustrating!  Need to get it sorted out though!

Mine sometimes whistles/whines on speed 4 when cooking custard, etc. I'm sure someone else has had this same problem (can't remember if it was a forum member or a friend) so I haven't stressed about it.

A whistle that comes and goes on speed 4 is normal & nearly all machines will have it

yep mine has the whistle on speed 4 too and moving the speed dial just a fraction generally will stop it :)
