Is this noise normal?
« on: January 19, 2010, 11:17:36 pm »
it doesn't sound nearly as bad on my camera as it does in real life, but this is the noise i've been worrying about. it's making it more and more.
it sounds like a really metallic grinding noise, like the blade is hitting the edge of the bowl (not possible i know)

Mine has made the same noise once or twice. I'll be interested in what Steve says it is.

Yes, mine does this too - but mostly when I am making things like sorbet and I had assumed it was when the mixture has moved up the bowl and the blades are mixing "nothing" - more of a ?vibration sound.  Maybe it isn't though and I'll take more notice to see if it's happening at other times.

What did you have in the bowl?  or was it empty?

yep I have had this before as well. I was told to clean under the grey seal beneath the blades. This solved the problem for me. Any sort of moisture, food ect can make the seal not work properly thus the noise.

Mine only does that on Turbo, and not quite as bad. Hope it's just the seal Karen!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

ok, i will try cleaning under the seal

at the time i took the movie i had just finished chopping the chocolate and hazelnuts to make the nutella recipe in the ECD

when it happened earlier that morning i was making rice milk

it was definitely still chopping, you can hear a different sound when the blades are spinning in thin air.

Mine makes the same noise when I make sorbet, or strawberry foam and all the ingredients are up in the top of the bowl and the blades are doing very little. I think it's always done it.  After you had your problems Karen I am now very conscious of all the noises the machine makes.

Like alioop, mine makes this noise when whatever is in the bowl has moved up and the blades are moving through nothing but air.
