We have a cheaper one (no idea of the brand) and have it hooked up to the house gas line - so much easier than gas bottles. we also have a weber but don't use it very often because it uses the heat beads and I find them a lot of work and quite expensive.

To get char grilled you need a charcoal BBQ. You will not get it with a gas  BBQ. Very messy.

I bought DH a voyager 6 from Bunnings about 5yrs ago. Not top of the line and it's fine. DH cleans after every use and I heat it up every now and then and clean with Mr Muscle. I have a cover for ours it was only about $30.00 and it has kept it in top condition.
I know your DH has a thing about Webbers. We have two A large one and a babyQ. The baby is great for small bbq's.
Together all three work really well at Christmas time and parties.

Oh and joy of joys look what DH built.
Being a B Double driver lots of things fall off the back of a truck. DH likes anything for free. He wanted to build a bbq. The chimney is a truck muffler and exhaust. He got a palate of bricks for free from somewhere.
The actual colour isn't quite that hideous. It sits at the end of the carport/entertaining area off the granny flat where we do the majority of our entertaining.

mcmich - I love it when people can turn stuff that's meant for one thing into something  totally different  - I certainly admire your DH's ingenuity!!! :D

Love that BBQ, I need a truck muffler and exhaust for my Chiminer what a good idea I'll have to source one of these.

Really?? You think it's OK?
It's an eyesore. The exhaust pipe is very shiny and I even though it's right up the back I have to wear sunnies because of the glare.

I haven't cleaned it. DH had a bbq while I was in WA.
Apparently it works.
