Chit Chat / Re: THE SHOPPING THREAD :-)
« on: December 15, 2020, 10:45:13 am »
I have only shopped locally in my little market town. To keep me busy in the dark evenings with no social contact I have made the majority of my presents for the wider family and friends - cold processed soap and wash cloths, and only bought raw materials, (bamboo cotton, oils and lye) and a few things for the young from their lists. Two online purchases, and one from an artisan maker. Things are challenging in the uk, in every way, but I’m determined to be cheerful and make the best of it all.
Today I bought a few grocery things inc linseeds for my bread.
Wishing you all a very sunny happy Christmas time xxx DJ

Yes thanks so much Denise, brilliant Just what I wanted I am making it and taking to London next week. As I’m being careful and they are too, we all work from home and I’m in a single bubble with them. I’m only going to their flat so it should be fine. We all work from home and I went for my last food shop today, apart from one pick up next week. Strange times. Hope all well with you and DH, DD and GS. Xxx

Hello all from the Uk.
Hope you’re all managing? Those photos are amazing of the jetty and dolphins, a tonic in wet grey December for sure.

Can you help me please I’m seeking the chocolate fondant recipe (melting middle puddings) and can’t find it anywhere... going to take to my son’s for Christmas along with the easy sticky toffee pudding.

Considering a deconstructed choc soufflé eg make the roux here and take it and the egg whites to mix there. Am going to experiment this week.
Hoping I will get there as we are all being careful and the risk is low, and all her family have already delivered their presents for me to take!
Have a wonderful time, and sending good wishes to you all xx
Sarah

Family here tonight and as I’m struggling with a chest infection they’ve gone for fish and chips, for pudding I’ve made a syrup sponge. Almost forgotten how to make puddings as I only eat fruit when I’m on my own. !!

Popping in to say I hope all the Australian members and their families are safe and ok. The news is so scary and we are all thinking of Australia right now. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Xx

Lots of good breadmakers in here.
Happy baking

Hello, hello I posted in the what have you been doing thread too.
Can anyone tell me about the new blade thing for slow cooking or sous vide, I had an email about it and wondered if it is any good? I tend to use my Everhot for slow cooking and not sure I need it but would like to know more if you lovely lot can fill me in on that and any thermie news I've missed in my long absence.
I have the normal one is it a mark 2? I got it in 2012.
Thanks so much. DJ

Hello all, long time no visit/speak etc.
I'm finally getting unpacked in my new location and today unpacked all my thermie and other cook books so I wondered how everyone is doing?
I'm gradually getting used to my change in circumstances and location and today I baked 8 cakes for a friend's freezer. 3 chocolate, 3 ginger and 2 coffee. Still got apple ones to do and lemon muffins. She's having a big operation and we're filling the freezer for her and her family. I've got a big cooker so 3 cakes at a time in the oven and used my big Kenwood. It only took two hours. It's good to be baking again.
It's wet here but we're not flooded.
Xxx

Thank you Cuilidh for your kind words. I think you are right, but nothing can be done to change it, believe me I've tried. Xxx

Hello my friends.
Long time no speak!
Once again I'm likely to move house, and once again have to restart my life. Just considering all my options after the one thing I did not expect has happened. As many of you know my husband has been bravely fighting incurable cancer for 5 years and very thankfully so far has outlived 2 poor prognoses. There is no timeline to work to any more, just repeatable lung ablation and monitoring via scans every 3m. It's very tough for him and also very tough for us. Sadly to add to all this he has now left me and says he wants to live on his own. I have no words, and after the six house moves we've had and everything else it is beyond my comprehension. Xxx

Hello all, from a very snowy Britain. Moving farms MJ that sounds like hard work. We moved last year too and long way to go to get sorted. DH still on fortnightly immunotherapy and has an op on Monday to a late his lung mets in the left lung. It just goes on and on.
Currently been resting my leg today after a little knew procedure yesterday to remove a foreign body after a fall in January. Few stitches in for ten or more days and all will be fine. Thought it was time to say hi.

Happy Christmas everyone, hope it is a good one. Thank you CC for you wonderful clotted cream, a real treat and we started it tonight with Mj's sticky date pudding as we were 8 for dinner. A fun evening and good food and drink makes it very special.
Wishing everyone a very Merry and Happy Christmas, and may 2017 bring you joy, and may the world find peace,
DJ xxxx
