Suggestions and Complaints / Re: Australian Thermomix in the USA
« on: August 17, 2014, 07:36:31 am »
I am assuming Australia has 220-230V like we do here in Europe. Since the outlets in the USA give 110V you will need a "step up converter" that takes the 110 and gives out 220. I have used European 220-230V appliances in the US that way.

You must make sure the booster can handle the Thermomix Wattage (W) i.e. can handle the max need of 1500W

I have packed away my booster, but can check when I get home.

Ps: this page has useful info: http://www.voltagesuperstore.com/choosingrightconverter.shtml

Thank you for the warm welcome!!!

I first heard about Thermomix a few years ago - OK more than a few... Maybe  20 years ago, but I was a poor student back then and couldn't afford one. Even though it would have been handy in my tiny 18 sqm student apartment with one cooking plate and no oven. So I got a crock pot instead.

Then I somehow forgot about the Thermomix, until a few weeks ago, when I saw a glimpse of one (I think) on Masterchef Australia (yes, it is on TV here in Finland!). So went on line to google for "all in one, self stirring cooking thing" until I found the name and read up on things.

Then finding a seller over here was the next hurdle - fortunately I found a blog by a Finnish expat living in Germany, who is a rep, and sold one to me! :)

I am a 'gadgetgirl' who prefers tinkering with gadgets instead of doing the chore. That's why I have a Roomba and a Scooba for house cleaning - doesn't save much time, but I can  pick up the stuff, switch on the vacuum and go do something else. And then clean out and tinker with the vacuum while watching TV. Makes vacuuming fun instead of a chore! And that what I am thinking Themomix will do as well. I dislike standing by the stove, or washing out lots of pots and pans.

What else about me.... I work outside the home, my work takes me on business trips fairly often. I have a hubby and one kid, an almost ten-year-old son. Whom are getting tired of macaroni and fried mince. So I guess I need to get back to cooking and freezing food for them when I'm out and about... Or maybe the son can learn to make a few simple things in the Thermomix.

Thank you for the hints, and with links included. I just sent off an email to the UK site.

Hi there, from across the world (I'm assuming many from Australia here?)

I am a total Thermmix newbie, never seen one in person and don't know of anyone owning one.... Mine is in the mail though, from a distributor in Germany! :) hopefully I'll have it early next week.

Meanwhile I've been reading everything I can find... But one thing that seems impossible to get, since there are no distributos in my country, is the Everyday cook book. The Australian site let me put it in my shopping basket, but there is no overseas shipping option. Well, maybe one will show up on ebay with international shipping...

I've already decided to start off my Thermomix experience with making rice milk, and a mince&rice meal :) I will be saving lots of money if my son drinks the home made rice milk :D
