Title: Help with accommodation in Adelaide
Post by: Wonder on November 20, 2014, 09:25:27 am
I'm hoping some of the lovely Adelaide ladies might be able to help.

DH and I are coming to Adelaide for Dh's brother in laws 50th birthday. They live in Golden Grove and the only accommodation idea they have given is at a caravan park 20 mins away. If it's 20 mins away I'm thinking we would be better off getting a hotel in central Adelaide so we at least have somewhere interesting to have a walk around. We get in at around 7am on Saturday morning and leave at 6am on Monday morning. I've only been to Adelaide once and I must admit I don't think I really saw the light of day  ;D  All ideas and suggestions appreciated.

I like the Stamford Plaza in North Terrace Wonder, the tram stops close by if you want to visit the Central  Market and it's easy to get out of town to the north eastern suburbs. It's probably only a 5 minute walk to the Rundle Mall. Geoff and I used to stay there quite often for our wedding anniversary.

I'm sure others will come up with some suggestions too.

Hi Wonder

I just had a quick look on wotif & two I came across are:

Sefara's Park Suites & Convention Centre - this is close to Golden Grove I have only ever been here for formal dinners so can't comment on accommodation but got rated 4.2 out of 5 on wotif

Mawson Lakes Hotel - about 15 mins away, rated 4.3 out of 5. Again I haven't stayed there.

Both are located near shopping centres, with Sfera next to a Westfield & o-Bahn (bus on tracks) transport into the city.

I should be heading up to my in laws on the weekend who live next to Sfera & keep an eye out. Funny even though I grew up in the area never had to look for accommodation so had to think about it.

Hi Wonder, I agree with kmw.  Sefara's is a good place to stay.

Thanks for the help everyone. We decided to stay at Crown Plaza purely because I could get a night free with points and even through the second night was expensive over the two days it's end up reasonable. Also decided that we would prefer to be in the city as we get in so early we would like to have places to walk around ahead of being able to check in and have an afternoon nap.

Thanks again. I was seeing this trip as a bit of a dreaded one a few weeks ago as we really don't get on with BIL whose birthday it is but are obliged to go as their entire family came to DH's birthday in May, but really looking forward to it now.

Wonder, the crowne plaza was great for the forumfest and central. You will enjoy it.
