Title: Dishwasher advise please??
Post by: astarra on January 27, 2014, 06:46:25 am
Hello all...
well, I have a problem in my kitchen - my dishdrawers have died. :(
DH pulled it apart today to see if he could fix it and what he found was rather scarey - would have only been a matter of time before we could have had a fire (and TM lives just above the dishwasher - we can't have him hurt!!  ;) )
So... now what??
I loved my dishdrawers apart from the fact they never dried properly and we have had minor things go wrong with them off and on the whole time we have lived here - so have decided to go for a dishwasher rather than drawers.
Budget of approx $1100, but dunno what.  ???

Tried to look on Choice reviews but couldn't see the results as we have not subscribed and were not sure if it would be worth the money to do so?

TIA  :-*

I have a bosh and have been impressed with it. You need to go for the expensive Bosh that is made in Germany though and not the cheaper ones. I only wish that I had spent the extra couple of hundred and got one with the cutlery drawer  :-\ :-\

Good luck Astarra it is one of the hardest choices to make as there are so many to choose from and also the price range is huge  :-)) :-))

Apparently F&P drawers aren't very reliable (much to the annoyance of my kiwi DH). We have a regular F&P dishwasher and it is brilliant, washes and dries the dishes well.  :)

When my F & P drawer model died, I bought a Miele, love it to bits.  I'd spent enough fixing the F & P several times and had had enough.

I have had Asko for many years with no problems and love it. My first one lasted over 13 years so when that died I bought another one but agree with faffa that you need to spend a bit more and buy a good one.

Thanx, there are so many options.  ???  We really liked the look and feel of the base Meile model which is on special ATM for $899 - but know nothing about them  :-[

Michele - maybe that is why I loved my dish drawers, just cuz of the kiwi factor!  ;)

We brought an Asko about 12 months ago and I LOVE it.  It washes and dries really well. We just brought the base model which I think at the time was $899.

We have a Miele with a cutlery draw in the top and it's great. We've had it about 6 years and apart from our plumber having troubles installing it we've never had any problems.

Forgot to add try the library for choice, in the past I've been able to review the articles at the library without the need to subscribe to choice.

Yep, that would have been it  ;D. Consider the Asko - I have had one but found it difficult to service on the Central Coast.
Love my F&P dishwasher as it washers and dries really well.  :)

Whatever you do do not buy an Ariston. I like my Bosch which is quiet. It is the basic model because  we cannot have anything  with a computer board due to geckos eating it. Just a simple dial.  With your family I would want something with a bigger capacity and a fast cycle.

I've had a Miele dishwasher for 18 years and it's just about at the end of its life ( getting noisy) but until it does give up, I just keep loading it.

I have a ariston, why wouldn't you buy one Gert? I have never had any mechanical problems, it been a great machine had it for nearly 10 years, but the shelves have started to rusted under the plastic coating and the cutlery container is broken. I'll need to either replace the shelves or buy a new machine.

Trouble from day one Jeninwa . Under warranty I had the  service man out frequently. I Eventually gave it away while still under warranty giving my  service guy's number. I had all Ariston products in my house. I replaced the oven and would dearly love to replace the  hob . Utter crap in my opinion . Nothing but expensive trouble . Service men have nothing good to say about them.  Could be the climate as they are a European design not suites to tropical climate.

The oven was so noisy it drove me to drink ......or maybe it was DH.....not sure.

I have had a Miele for 20 years it has never missed a beat.
The only service call was from Miele as they replaced detergent dispenser.
We even moved it with us when we moved house and it has been working in the shed on a hose during kitchen renovations!
We are going to retire it to a friend's shack by the river.
We now have a Siemens which works well so far (4 Weeks)
I would suggest getting a bigger Miele if you can so you can fit more in for a bigger family

I also have an ariston oven and gas hob, never been that happy with the oven, expensive to get repaired and takes so long for parts to get here 4 or 5 weeks last time, next time it needs repairing it's going out in the rubbish. Love the hob it's a 6 burner, plenty  of room not that I use it much now I have thermi.
Maybe it was a mix of both that drove you to drink Gert lol

Don't know much about dishwashers, sorry, but it is worth subscribing to Choice. We have been subscribers for years and have used the Choice Shopper to purchase items from digital cameras , a fridge to a vacuum cleaner and a dryer and we allways get a great discount . Hundreds of dollars in some cases. I dont have any affiliation with Choice other than being a subscriber.

TIA  :-*

Siemens for me. With cutlery basket, not extra cutlery shelf on top as too slow.
Has quick wash 29 mins for china.
Timer delay.
Speed up washes to half time. Mist used washes are just over hour or 1 hr 20.
This is it. Not the cheapest but am very good machine. Cheaper than a miele. Miele are supposed to last 20 yrs.

Good luck

Definitely a Miele - had mine for 4 years cannot hear it working and the cutlery drawer is amazing - much better than a basket - a little slower to put in but much quicker to take out and put away as always dry and no staining. My Miele fridge freezer also the best I have ever had.

We don't get the digital version of Choice. Only the hard copy. Perhaps someone else can help or I could scan the pages and send you a pdf version when I find the right issue.

I just have the basket & have been happy with it. My friend has the tray & it looked like it would take up some space. I like to put in as many glasses & plates etc as I can. I also thought that the tray looked like a bit of a hassle to lay everything out, but I haven't actually tried it, so I could be wrong.

I guess it's a personal taste Astarra.  Mine has the basket and DD's has the tray and when I load and unload hers, I always think mine is better.

We have the tray and would never go back to a basket again, I find visitors never like it and it did take us a while to get used to it, but once you get the hange of it I think it's quicker to both pack and unpack and cleans much better.

We have a Westinghouse and I can highly recommend it. Have had it for over 4 years with no problems. It's the quietest dishwasher I have owned/used. Prior to Westinghouse, we had an Ariston and again had no problems, even after 7 years of constant use. Gert, I think you may be right about the temperature and humidity in Cairns affecting the Ariston as we've had no problems with ours. I would also go cutlery tray over basket as it cleans much better.

I had countless problems with my whirlpool dishwasher from the day 1, had to change several parts and at the end I had to change the dishwasher entirely!.
I have a long story behind it, I was very upset that I posted my experience everywhere. I don't want to bother you with the details.
So, for me whirlpool would be a no go.

After a very long research period I decided on Bosch an I am very happy with it
It has a third drawer on the top which works great for me
It is extremely silent
It has flexible and foldable shelves and racks which is a must for me
It has 6 programs including glass program for our wine glasses ;)
It is ecofriendly but also gives you the option to halve its eco program. There may be times you don't have 2 - 3 hours. The eco programs usually take longer as you know. You can halve the program by pressing a button. Of course this would mean that you would be using more energy to wash dishes... however sometimes you may need to do that. It is nice to have the option anyway.
I have this fully integrated model (http://www.bosch-home.com/it/prodotti/lavastoviglie/incasso/lavastoviglie-da-incasso/SMV69M30EP.html). The model numbers usually change from country to country. You may have it under different model number or something similar.

I hope you get something that would make you happy and satisfied for a long time...

Ended up going for the basket,  :D
I load and unload it up on the bench so decided it was the best way to go for us. As my cutlery drawer is the opposite side of the kitchen to my dishwasher, I take the whole basket across to that bench to unload into the drawer. :)
I am very happy.  :D
