I'm looking at getting a 4 slice toaster and didn't realise how expensive they are. If anyone has bought one recently I would appreciate your thoughts - good and bad.

I have this one wonder. It's a great toaster, expensive but works. We tried a few other brands but they never toasted evenly.
I like this one for its brushed metal finish, the buttons for lift n look, longer, cancel etc., it has wide slots for thick pieces of bread and can be used for long breads like ciabatta. You can have four slices of ordinary at once as well.
-
We have a Sunbeam one that wasn't too expensive. It has two slots for bread but they are long so can fit 4 slices of regular bread or two slices of irregular bread (iykwim). There are no fancy settings, it's very basic but the only one we found that could fit larger slices. It works well too.

Wonder, we have one similar to Mrsb. Ours will take 4 slices and is the only one that we have tried that copes with SD bread. We bought our daughter one also.
Gert has a state of art one, but it was $500 and I couldn't quite allow myself to pay that much.

I too am interested as our last toaster which went out on the vege collection a couple of weeks back was bad, it kept tripping the power in our house ???
-
I have the Cuisinart 4 slice toaster (http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/products/cuisinart/cuisinart-toaster-cpt240tna-4-slice-brushed-steel-titanium-na/toasters) and am reasonably happy with it. Not perfect as it won't take wider slices of home made bread. I find very few home made breads toast well in this house and it's trial and error to get the settings right - my smoke alarm has gone off many times in my attempts to get the perfect toast, no matter which toaster I've used :-)) Bought bread/fruit bread though is perfect.
-
I also have the same as mrsb and have been very happy with it. I particularly like the fruit bread setting and the fact that it takes almost any size and shape of bread.
The 'automatic' part is a bit fun too.
If I had to buy another toaster I would buy the same one again.
I can't comment on longevity of them because I've only had it for about four months. No signs of decomposition yet though!

Thanks for the fast responses everyone, I went out and bought the Breville one that Mrsb, Chookie and consumer ate have. I manged to get it a few dollars cheaper at the good guys and breville have a cash back of $25 at the moment so didn't end up too expensive. I love that I won't have to cut bigger pieced in two to toast them. Hally, I'll let you know how we find it in a week or so.

Hows the toaster, I am getting desperate to buy one :)

Sorry keep meaning to reply. We've found the toaster great, I love the look/see function and that you can put pretty much any shape of bread and they fit well. I haven't tried fruit bread or crumpets/muffins yet but I'm sure they will work as it should. the only thin I don't like is I wish the controls were along the front panel because it's quite a long toaster and you either need to have it sticking out on the bench or the controls are a little difficult to see on the side - only a minor thing and it's because we leave the toaster on the bench all the time so I would prefer it to be horizontally rather than vertical IYKWIM

I was in the market for a new toaster too, so after such good reviews here of the Breville, I've found the cheapest price from Myer on-line ($79.20), for anyone else interested. :)

Julie the one I got is the BTA830, not sure what the difference is apart from price. I paid $143 which was the cheapest I could find and there is a $25 cashback from Breville offer.
-
I think the only difference is it doesn't have a specialised crumpet setting, I can live with that for the price difference. :)
-
I love my Breville toaster,it fits perfectly in the cubby hole.(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/21/ema5ujy3.jpg)

Looks good Bedlam, looking forward to getting mine (even if slightly different). :D
-
If I had of found the cheaper one JulieO I defintely would have got it. We only have crumpets a couple of times a year.
-
I've just blown up my breville toaster >:(
Some bread had fallen down and caught on fire which tripped the safety switch. :o
I've turned the power back on, but the toaster won't turn back on
Sounds like I'll be looking for a new toaster, and I really liked this one.
-
Thank you, just ordered on line :D

Picked my toaster up last night from the PO and opened it this morning. It does have a crumpet/fruit bread setting etc so I'm really not sure what the difference is between this one and the more expensive one Wonder bought, but for the price I paid I'm not complaining at all. Will test it out in the morning but on looks alone, I'm very happy. :D

Mine came a few days ago, very happy with it :)

Good to hear Hally. :)
