Title: Gravy
Post by: djinni373 on December 11, 2014, 10:30:26 pm
I thought I had posted this gravy recipe but couldn’t find it, so hope I am not duplicating it. The original recipe came from a TV show a long time ago–Burkes Backyard maybe?

Gravy
This is a tasty, quick and easy gravy that's great for leftover roast meats. Vary ingredients to taste and the preferred thickness of the gravy.

Ingredients
1 small onion
2 heaped T wholemeal flour
1 heaped T tomato paste
1 T soy sauce
1 T Worcestershire sauce
1T fresh herbs or 1 t dried herbs
¼ t vege stock concentrate or to taste
ground black pepper to taste
500 ml water

Directions
1.   Chop onion for 3-4 sec speed 5.
2.   Add rest of ingredients.
3.   Cook 5 min Varoma temp speed 3. This should bring the gravy to the boil.
4.   Whizz speed 7 or 8 for 10 sec to get rid of most lumps.
5.   Cook 20 min 90 degrees speed 3 with MC off or until it is the desired thickness. Time and temp here depend on how much time you have. I have cooked this on Varoma temp in a big hurry, but it’s best done a bit slower on a lower heat.

Tip: Make a thick gravy and freeze in small containers. To reheat, add to thermie, saucepan or microwave with water or stock to thin.

Thanks Gayle, I had a search and couldn't find your recipe anywhere.  These type of recipes from scratch without pan drippings are often sought after so thanks for sharing with us.

I think uni must be having us on.  After seeing all the things that come out of the Uni kitchen, a roast would be easy peasy

We rarely have gravy for the simple reason that I cook our roasts in the Easy Cook. Now we can have gravy.  Thanks djinni the mob will be pleased.

Have you ever bought a cryovaced piece of pork or lamb and followed the cooking directions on the packet Uni - you really can't go wrong if you can find one of them.
