When grinding spices, I place a 23cm round parchment paper (cake tin liner from Lakeland) under the lid before I snap it in place. All the ground powder stays in the TM, nothing sticks under the lid and there is no lingering smell. You can use any size of parchment paper, provided it is larger than the lid so the edges are secured by the lock.

Thanks ChowChan, I've also used cling wrap, that works well too.

A great suggestion. Thanks for sharing.

A really good suggestion, thank you for sharing, never crossed my mind because I do get annoyed when everything sticks to the lid and also discolors it..

I put a piece of paper towel under the lid if I'm grinding spices or sugar. Stops the big cloud from floating up when you take the lid off!
