old yeast
« on: December 19, 2012, 12:05:23 am »
I have yeast in the fridge that is 2 yrs past its best before date. I proofed some in some warm water + sugar and it has foamed up fine... would it still be okay to use? It's mostly been kept in the freezer, however I think it's been in the fridge for the past 6 months (I needed freezer space!).

It's half full, so seems a shame to make it. Will make the kids a pull apart loaf to go with spag bol for dinner.

I had some shallots cut up in the fridge, so added some garlic and made that as a herb butter. Will sprinkle with some sharp vintage cheddar and/or parmesan too. If it does work I will make some dairy free (will use coconut butter) cinnamon scrolls tomorrow.

It sounds like the yeast is still fine, good luck.
