Is it a scratc or a dark circle?

I have a dark circle just at the edge of where the seal sits but have had no luck removing it. Its only one one of the bowls. ???

Mine is not a full circle although i have only done one batch of the dishwashing goo. It is not the same as when you get a small amount of residue from say cooking custard. It definitely won't come off, I have tried scotch brite smooth steel wool pad.

Just checked mine ILB, it is quite smooth so I don't think it is a scratch but more like you describe - a dark circle which cannot be seen when the blades are in place but is the exact size of the outside of the o-ring.  Like Meagan I have tried the non-scratch scotchbrite pad and used Gumption to try and remove it.  Doesn't affect anything so I am not bothered about it.

WARNING - THIS RECIPE MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR MACHINE
« Reply #79 on: January 22, 2010, 01:58:30 am »
Hello everyone.

I really feel I need to send out a word of warning about the Dishwasher Soap?

Someone really needs to tell people NOT to use this recipe, please don't shoot the messenger.
Firstly, you all should be aware that this recipe definitely isn’t endorsed by Thermomix. So any damage won't be covered under warranty.

I have seen first hand the damage that can be caused by this several time now, again just yesterday. I am not sure if it is just the ingredients, a variation in the quantities or if leaving it in the bowl for an extended period that is the cause of damage at random times. I do know I won't be testing it to find out either.

I am really surprised that people keep trying it even after reading previous posts in this thread about marks left in the bowl etc.

It obviously has a very high acidity and it really can cause serious damage. I must add I certainly wouldn’t put my machine at risk by trying it.

Cheers Steve

I think that this recipe should have a warning in BIG LETTERS.  I scratched my bowl when it was only a few days old.   The mix was not good enough to persist.  I think it is a combination of the acid (lemon) and abrasive (salt).   It doesn't seem to have changed the function of the machine.

Definitely agree on that one.  These longgggg threads make it even harder to notice something like this.

I think in many ways it is better to leave it with warnings - if people can read that it is going to ruin their machine and they decide to go ahead - then that is their stupidity.

There are lots of recipes and videos out there for the mixture - in fact it was one of the first Youtube TMX videos that i saw - so it may be the same with others.  So, if we say - DON"T DO IT and leave all the discussion here then others may see that it is not a good idea - willing to have my views cahnged though if everyone says remove it.

I agree with you Thermomixer.  Many may have printed out the recipe and if they are active on this forum they can't help but see this warning whereas if it was removed they would be none the wiser, especially people who only pop in occasionally.
