Chit Chat / Falafel
« on: October 11, 2020, 04:12:11 am »
Hi Guys - I've just had an epic fail with a falafel recipe from the Tmix+ magazine.
They just totally dissolved in the oil - subsequently the chooks have had a very satisfying lunch.
I found this old recipe of Chookies from many years ago and wonder if anyone has made it, or has any comments or suggestions?
This is the recipe -
1 onion
1 large clove of garlic
1 400g tin chickpeas
falafel mix ( use "Mount Zero" organic mix)
handful of corriander (green) or parsley and a few mint leaves.

Drop onion and garlic onto moving blades, speed 7, until chopped
scrape down and add 1 tablespoon of oil
cook 100, speed 1, 4 mins.
Tip in chickpeas, water and peas
roughly chop corriander or mint and parsley and add to bowl
speed 7, 6 secs.
Add 1  1/2 cups of mix,  ::, until incorporated
sit for 15 mins

Roll into small balls (I use a small ice cream scoop),  flatten slightly and shallow fry until brown.
Serve with a yogurt dip.

Chit Chat / Tahini
« on: October 08, 2020, 08:41:03 am »
Has anyone here made their own tahini - and if so, was it worth it?
I bought a massive bag of sesame seeds some time ago (no idea what I was thinking) and they have been out of date for some time. They're still okay, but I can't use them fast enough so need to bulk process them and tahini seems the most useful option.
I'm thinking I'll just bung them in and whizz the bejesus out of them - unless someone has any finessing to suggest?  ;D

Chit Chat / Vego Christmas Dish
« on: December 21, 2017, 10:38:46 pm »
Hi Guys - it's been such a long time since I've been here! How is everyone - have I missed any good gossip?  ;)
So - I'm looking for inspiration. My youngest has gone vegetarian (sigh). I'm up to my eyeballs trying to schedule/assemble the Christmas dinner at ours, plus a Christmas eve dinner with dear friends, but I'd like to be able to offer my daughter at least one nice vegetarian dish on the big day. Preferably one I can prepare the day before, and preferable using the TMX to cut down on the work load.
Any brilliant ideas?

Chit Chat / Crio Bru granules
« on: November 04, 2014, 09:35:51 am »
Hi guys, I've just bought Tenina's "For Foods Sake" (finally) and am just wondering what I can sub for crio bru granules. Is cocoa an appropriate substitute? Or should I use cacao nibs?

Chit Chat / Amazon Kindle sale
« on: August 25, 2013, 12:23:16 am »
Amazon have a sale on some Kindle books today.  Unfortunately, because of the wicked geo-blocking, most of the ones I wanted weren't available here in Australia at the stated price, but I got a couple for $1.99 that my mum might like.

Anyway ladies, check it out -

Not loving my TM today.

Chit Chat / Pistachio Paste
« on: December 05, 2012, 12:28:02 am »
Last year I bought a jar of the most heavenly pistachio paste - but I just about had to mortgage the house to buy it.  VERY pricey!

This year I'm going to make it myself.

Anyone else tried this?  The one I bought was sweetened and slightly creamy in colour.

Chit Chat / Ebooks
« on: October 13, 2012, 10:06:27 am »

Are there any other ebooks I should put on my Ipad?

Chit Chat / Crio Bru
« on: October 13, 2012, 09:29:13 am »
For some time now I've been under the impression that Crio Bru was some sort of coffee substitute.  Now, I'm not a coffee drinker at all - I'm a tea girl - so have not paid any attention to it, but have just looked at the website and am wondering if I've got it wrong.  ???

Anyone care to enlighten me?

Has anyone tried making dulce de leche this way?

I'm afraid of my pressure cooker, but my desire for this might help me overcome my fears.  :-)) ;D

Karen - Amanda, these are just gorgeous!  Whipped up a batch this morning as had unexpected guests.  I used rapadura sugar, which is quite lumpy, so I blitzed the sugar in with the almonds. The flavour is really, really yummy and a bit different with the hint of the coconut. Gone straight to the "favourites" file - thank you!!
