Strawberries and balsamic vinegar
« on: August 18, 2012, 02:13:38 am »
Does anyone know or have a  recipe for balsamic vinegar with strawberries. How would  you go about combining them?? I have also bought some balsamic glaze that I thought I could use with them. I am having a mental block at the moment. Thanks everyone. Sandy

Hi Sandy - I've just googled "strawberries and balsamic vinegar" and came up with a page full of sites and recipes.  Try this to see if any appeal to you!  Good luck!

Intrepidtrier I just cut up strawbs, drizzle over a little raw sugar and balsamic glaze (the thick balsamic vinegar that comes in a small bottle), stir gently, leave them for a couple of hours (out of the fridge - flavour is better) then serve with cream or icecream. Yum! The balsamic vinegar glaze does make the cream curdle - but is still good - just looks a bit ordinary.
I don't have measurements - just go by taste.

Thanks Nikkit and goldfish. Nikkit I did the same as you but also added some freshly ground black pepper. Tasted bloody marvelous.

I just hull and city up a punnet of strawberries. Drizzle a couple of tablespoons of balsamic over. Leave for a couple of hours or longer. Sprinkle with brown sugar and put under the grill to caramelise.  Top with ice cream or cream. Much the same as Nikkit.

Oooooo ... I must try the pepper next time. Sounds very good. I have some strawbs here, so will do it for tonight. Thanks   :)
Oh and the caramelising bit too, looks like I'll be off to the strawb farm for more supplies today.  :)

Just read back through this thread - have to wonder how I "city up" strawberries..  I really meant that I cut them up.  Yes I like the idea of pepper might try that next time tool
